To not give up my seat?

bottomfellout · 24/06/2019 11:43

Currently in the middle of a 5 hour train journey with my 7yo. We got on at the first station and will be getting off 3 stops before final station. We are sat in our reserved seats, confirmation on the little display above our heads saying reserved from our starting and finishing stations.

At the last station 20 minutes ago a man got on and said ‘you’re in my seat’ and started to move my bags. I told him I wasn’t, grabbed my bag, showed him my ticket and the seat display. He showed me his ticket and he’s also reserved for the same seat. I told him he should go and find the guard, that there are plenty of free seats (although don’t know if they’re reserved).

He won’t go and find the guard, he wants his seat. He’s now standing right next to me (probably watching me type), having just had a loud phone call (which I’m pretty sure was imaginary as we went through a tunnel) about how he can’t prepare for the presentation as a stuck up bitch won’t move out of his seat. He’s huffing and sighing and I’m wondering whether he’ll stay standing over me for the next 2.5 hours.

I don’t want ds to hear this bloke being a prick but I really don’t see why I should move. Ds is currently plugged into his iPad so hasn’t noticed.

Omg what an idiot! Head phones in and ignore, if he would rather sit on the floor than a seat that's up to him!

onalongsabbatical · 24/06/2019 12:12

Stupid entitled git. Don't you dare move for him. Keep us posted - the comeuppance should be sweet!

ScreamingValenta · 24/06/2019 12:13

If the display shows your station as the starting point for the reservation, and this bloke has only just got on, odds are that he's mistaken, not you.

DartmoorDoughnut · 24/06/2019 12:14

What a muppet!

AryaStarkWolf · 24/06/2019 12:14

I reckon that he's waiting until you or dc need to go to the toilet

I was thinking that too, could be inevitable with a 7 year olds aswell

Nearlyadad · 24/06/2019 12:14

A woman once quite politely told me I was in her seat, when she showed me her ticket I pointed out she’s booked it for next month by mistake. She was mortified

BiscuitDrama · 24/06/2019 12:15

Does the display show two seats as being reserved for the right station? Ie both you and DS?
Are you totally sure you’re on the right train (time) and carriage number?

KatharinaRosalie · 24/06/2019 12:15

So what exactly makes him think that as you both have reservations for the same seat, his would trump yours? Because penis?

Ask him to explain, that should be fun.

ComeAndDance · 24/06/2019 12:15

My experience with those situation is that one person has a ticket for the wrong day.
I hope he has checked his..

Otherwise he is basically offended a woman hasn’t. Made way for him. Just let him stew and ignore

PeonyPink0 · 24/06/2019 12:16

Computerisation means this can’t happen. One of you is on the wrong train or in the wrong carriage.

Lockheart · 24/06/2019 12:16

If the signe above the seat says "reserved from 'your starting station' to 'your destination'" then it's definitely him who is in the wrong carriage or on the wrong train, given he got on at a completely different stop!

Can you tweet them to contact the guard?

GabriellaMontez · 24/06/2019 12:16

What a massive fool he's making of himself.

Prepare for him to start announcing at the next station that you've taken his seat. You may need to ask loudly if someone can get the guard as this man is harassing you. Have yoir phone ready.

CassianAndor · 24/06/2019 12:17

what a twerp. Is your DS OK? This kind of thing would make my DD pretty anxious.

Whatisthisfuckery · 24/06/2019 12:17

Fuck that OP, you stay put. If it had been the other way round and he’d boarded before you he wouldn’t have shifted. He’s a twat, and he’s making himself look like it. Nab the guard when they approach, tell them he’s been aggressive and get them to move him along.

newmomof1 · 24/06/2019 12:17

@bottomfellout He’s currently sitting on the floor (despite several free seats in the carriage), sighing dramatically and glaring at me. Sad little man.

Are you on a Virgin train? Is this man actually Jeremy Corbyn?

crazyasafox · 24/06/2019 12:17

What a vile article. Tell the guard.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/06/2019 12:18

Stay put OP!

JeezOhGeeWhizz · 24/06/2019 12:18

Twitter is your friend here.
Or the Daily Mail.

Hotpinkangel19 · 24/06/2019 12:18

He's making an idiot of himself

annabelle1992 · 24/06/2019 12:19

Agree that computerisation doesn't make it possible to double book. Good idea to tweet them, or DM them on Twitter they sometimes get back quicker to DMs. If they don't get back within 10 mins or so call the help line for the train company and explain that you are being harassed and for them to message the guard to deal with it.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 24/06/2019 12:19

He's an idiot to behave in this way.
He should go to see the guard. Clearly he should be the one to go, as you are 1. already sitting in it and 2. with a child. I would tweet to request the guard tbh if he's getting more arsey
If it's a genuine mistake by the company he'll probably get an upgrade as well.

Does the display correlate with your ticket ? The Display is King in this situation.

TheInvestigator · 24/06/2019 12:19

He's making himself look like a complete fool! All because he wants to get the better of a woman and a child. There are other seats! But he's rather sit on the floor and behave like spoilt brat. Silly little man.

CatPunsFreakMeowt · 24/06/2019 12:21

Jesus what a vile man. I would have called the police. How dare he try to intimidate you like that.

FairyDust92 · 24/06/2019 12:21

What a silly man 😂 tell him to get up he's making the place look untidy

SandraOhshair · 24/06/2019 12:22

One of you has the wrong train and it sounds like him.
I hope the guard comes round soon. Sitting on the floor when theres seats! What an idiot!
