To not give up my seat?

bottomfellout · 24/06/2019 11:43

Currently in the middle of a 5 hour train journey with my 7yo. We got on at the first station and will be getting off 3 stops before final station. We are sat in our reserved seats, confirmation on the little display above our heads saying reserved from our starting and finishing stations.

At the last station 20 minutes ago a man got on and said ‘you’re in my seat’ and started to move my bags. I told him I wasn’t, grabbed my bag, showed him my ticket and the seat display. He showed me his ticket and he’s also reserved for the same seat. I told him he should go and find the guard, that there are plenty of free seats (although don’t know if they’re reserved).

He won’t go and find the guard, he wants his seat. He’s now standing right next to me (probably watching me type), having just had a loud phone call (which I’m pretty sure was imaginary as we went through a tunnel) about how he can’t prepare for the presentation as a stuck up bitch won’t move out of his seat. He’s huffing and sighing and I’m wondering whether he’ll stay standing over me for the next 2.5 hours.

I don’t want ds to hear this bloke being a prick but I really don’t see why I should move. Ds is currently plugged into his iPad so hasn’t noticed.

A dog walked over him a few minutes ago.

Hahaha. He's making a right tit of himself, isn't he!?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 24/06/2019 12:57

Has he buggered off yet OP?

SlimGin · 24/06/2019 12:58

I'm sure the guards are sick of self righteous passengers like that, so hopefully if one comes along they'll side with you rather than Mr Titface.

FckIt · 24/06/2019 12:59

This has happened to me before.
Guy comes in screaming at me that I was in his seat. Checked mine and his ticket.
I was booked onto the 7am train.
He had booked the 7pm train.

Still tried to get me to move Hmm

AlmostAJillSandwich · 24/06/2019 13:00

Oh how i hope he gets picked up on why he's in first class, gets found out to be the one on the wrong train/day etc and gets kicked off or has to pay again for a regular seat!

gottastopeatingchocolate · 24/06/2019 13:00

It's all very well sitting in First Class when there are no standard seats available and you appear to be double booked, but I don't think he'll have much luck when he has been offered a number of seats near you!

I really want to hear an update that the guard escorts him back to an empty seat near you!! Grin

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 24/06/2019 13:00

Ooh X post!

A dog walked over him Grin I like that dog already, give it a biscuit!

bottomfellout · 24/06/2019 13:00

Just out of curiosity is there anyone reading this who happens to be in first class on the Paignton-Manchester train (the one that arrives at Manchester at 3pm)? If there’s a guard they need a nudge that there’s someone in there who shouldn’t be. Please. That would make my day.

Namechanger001 · 24/06/2019 13:02

I hope he's working on that presentation whilst on the floor. 😆. Anyway the divvy shouldn't expect to be able to do work on the train as sometimes they're so full nobody gets their seat. Stay put OP and let us know when a guard comes by.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/06/2019 13:02

What an idiot, plenty of empty seats, but he wants to sit onthe floor.

Yes, it's annoying if there has been a double booking but his booking does not overrule yours, especially as there are two of you travelling together

What a tool! How ridiculous!

Databreachnamechanger · 24/06/2019 13:04

Shameless placemarking for updates. I was sat with some awful men a while ago and got good advice to put the experience on Twitter and to text the BTP. I got a lot of support fast from Twitter, and felt safer having the BTP number on hand (it's text 61016 - good luck!).

theworldistoosmall · 24/06/2019 13:04

Hope he does send someone down. Sounds like you have lots of witnesses.

Databreachnamechanger · 24/06/2019 13:05

I hope the next dog wees on him. Seriously. Some people have no class.

MLMsuperfan · 24/06/2019 13:05

True story. Years ago I was sat on a very crowded Virgin train and a woman got on at a station and told me I was in her reserved seat. I explained there was no sign the seats were reserved. She showed me her ticket and it was for an earlier train on the same day.

She said that her train had been delayed so she'd got on this one instead, and she felt the booking should still be valid, so could I please just move?

She ended up calling the guard! I didn't have to move.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 24/06/2019 13:05

He’s a twat!

nothingwittyhere · 24/06/2019 13:05

Could it be this person?: twitter.com/SkylahRhodes/status/1143110483186204675

Obviously appears to be the wrong sex, but you never know on Twitter. if it's the same train they may have a glitch in the system.

PeonyPink0 · 24/06/2019 13:06

Have you tweeted cross country yet?

DesparateDino · 24/06/2019 13:06

Tweet them OP. Most of the TOC's are quick to reply.

@CrossCountryUK

The man is a twat.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 24/06/2019 13:06

I bet he’s just gone to another standard carriage but made up the crap about first to try and save face. Tit.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 24/06/2019 13:07

What an actual tosser of a man.

SilverySurfer · 24/06/2019 13:07

Are you sure it's not Jeremy Corbyn? He sat on the floor of a train, despite there being several empty seats, while he bleated that trains needed to be renationalised. Of course he moved to one of the seats once the photograph had been taken. Arse.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 24/06/2019 13:08

@nothingwittyhere

Op and the Twitter posters trains are going to different destinations.

DishingOutDone · 24/06/2019 13:08

Interesting another person in what appears to be a very similar position - surely not same train though?
