To be totally freaked out by what I just found on my towel?

My heart is pounding honestly. What is this insect? Do I need to boil all sheets and towels? Burn the house down?

It's the size of a large puy lentil. Perfectly round with legs. Filled with brown bits, kind of like a teabag.

Heart still pounding. Please help. I can't actually look at my own photo.

Why did I read all of this?? I'm now itching all over and am never going to be able to sleep tonight! To think I was going off to have a nice relaxing pre bed bath, but now can't go into the airing cupboard for a fresh towel for fear of what may be lurking. Aaarghh!

aNutAboveTheBreast · 23/06/2019 22:56

Ugh. I'm itching everywhere. I keep feeling my hair move...

MsJaneAusten · 23/06/2019 22:57

Cumbria?

But I live in Cumbria and always leBd my washing out to get darker on.

I have to move don’t I?

This is a shame as I really rather like it.

MsJaneAusten · 23/06/2019 22:57

Towel was hanging up in my bathroom. I got out of the shower this morning and grabbed it but immediately saw the tiny teabag. Dropped towel, left bathroom, had palpitations, told you lot. It was in my bathroom!

All towels in the room have been boiled and the room has been checked and hoovered. But still...

Sorry Prettytricky, that's not what you wanted to hear is it...

Well, this thread has been horrifying and fascinating in equal measure. I guess that’s me never leaving washing out overnight again.

Seeingadistance · 23/06/2019 23:00

And you don’t have a cat?

tastylancs · 23/06/2019 23:02

No, no cat. It's just too awful. I used to love Cumbria too MissJaneAusten.

tastylancs · 23/06/2019 23:02

I think London might be safer.

Must remember to wear varifocals at all times, especially when reaching for a towel.

NewAndImprovedNorks · 23/06/2019 23:11

I LOVE MUMSNET

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 23/06/2019 23:12

i always "whipcrack" my towels.....we have a very spidery bathroom, I pick them up give them a shake from the one corner making sure I am not going to accidentally touch a spider and then get a hold of the opposite corner and flicketty-whippety

just in case of concealed spiderage.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/06/2019 23:17

Tick - looks like a juvenile one that hasn't had a good feed yet.

They're nasty little bastards.

Summergarden · 23/06/2019 23:17

I LOVE the name Acarina for a girl!

Is it bad that I just started daydreaming about having another girl baby just to call her Acarina? So pretty, even if it’s the name of a type of tick.

S1naidSucks · 23/06/2019 23:18

the room has been checked and hoovered

Did you empty the vacuum? Because it might now be crawling away from the vacuum after having made an escape. It’s now looking for a new host. cackles

tastylancs · 23/06/2019 23:19

MsMighty you have given me the serious giggles. Maybe now I can sleep peacefully. I too will be whipcracking away in the bathroom.

And big yes to varifocals! We must be on the alert at all times.

OP posts:
tastylancs · 23/06/2019 23:21

s1naed really? Just when I am feeling much cheered by the whipcracking post. You bring up the hoover. Now? Tsk. Well yes I did empty it, into the kitchen bin. The bin can empty itself tomorrow, I'm not going there.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 23/06/2019 23:22

I don't think that's a tick. I pull them off my dog and cats almost daily and have never seen anything as ugly as that!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/06/2019 23:23

I LOVE the name Acarina for a girl!

They're playing "Hey Acarina"* on the ladies' football highlights at this very moment!

*Yes they ARE! I have NOT misheard! It is NOT "Hey Macarena"!

S1naidSucks · 23/06/2019 23:24

tastylancs, if it’s any consolation, I went to put my walking boots on earlier and saw something in one. It was a fucker of a spider that could have worn the bloody boots itself. The boot is still in the yard and the dogs were walked in my trainers.

Dontsayyouloveme · 23/06/2019 23:27

Instagran amazing video!!! How did you find it?

Maureen behind the door 🤪 the ‘oh’ every time Derry ‘almost’ caught the bat, and the ‘well done you’re doing great 😂😂(but not really)’ chats of encouragement!!! Class!!

GreyGardens88 · 23/06/2019 23:29

Some bats carry rabies, is it possible these ticks can pass it on?

TinselAngel · 23/06/2019 23:32

Hey Acarina!

usernameuser · 23/06/2019 23:38

Can you open it and pull the insides out with tweezers for a proper look?

Why? 🙄
