To ask what it’s like to have a famous DH?

I’m just being nosy really, I bet there’s a few posters on here with partners who have achieved some level of fame. And no I don’t expect anyone to reveal identifying information!

What is it like though, knowing that random people admire your DH? Does it make them cocky, or make you feel uncomfortable when other women take an interest in them? I think I’d find it quite exposing and difficult tbh. I have a friend who was in a similar situation with a musician for three years and I know she found it hard.

Not a H but my BIL is / was quite famous in his field and got stopped for photos and autographs. He's always very grateful to those who do and makes time to speak as he knows it could all be over tomorrow and doesn't want to be remembered as a dick! We always find it amusing when it happens because, to us, he's just a hairy oaf with stinky farts 😂

Jeremybearimybaby · 22/06/2019 12:38

I have a (UK, not world wide) famous relative, and its hilarious to us that people want his signature on a bit of paper. He's just a normal bloke, who happens to be on the telly as his job.
We live fairly rurally, so he comes here to get ignored as Scots tend to be fairly dour and not speak to people peace and quiet, when city life gets a bit much.

RonnieOnions · 22/06/2019 12:38

My H is an international ‘filmstar’, very well known for a specific genre of films. He is often papped at airports etc and approached in the street/restaurants by fans.

In reality we live in a small village in an unassuming county, where we live a normal life and argue over washing up.

HollowTalk · 22/06/2019 12:40

He's not a porn star, is he, @ronnieonions?

GidgetGirl · 22/06/2019 12:53

My DP is pretty well-known in a culty way but isn’t a big star that’s likely to get papped. A ‘cult icon’, apparently.

Although he’s never been known as any kind of sex icon (very far from it!), he never struggled to gain female attention over the years and I know he made the most of it. This was before I met him - he’s getting on a bit now and I think he’s slightly put out that it’s such a rarity these days. He has lots of fans, but they don’t love him for his sex appeal.. I’ve certainly never had any issues with any of his fans anyway, and they’re nearly always lovely people.

By far the weirdest thing is when we’re at events with much more famous people than him, and they come up to him asking for photos and autographs. That’s happened a few times with quite big stars and I’m always a bit whaaa?... Confused

RonnieOnions · 22/06/2019 12:53

Ha! No

Fucktuates · 22/06/2019 12:55

Any famous mums in here never mind the OHs?

ethelfleda · 22/06/2019 12:55

I hate threads like this because I really really want to know who people are taking about!

akmum18 · 22/06/2019 12:59

I’d love to know who ronnieonions dh is can we have a clue Grin
My sister used to date a famous American actor she met in London but he was always followed and begged for autographs and she got fed up of the lack of privacy so ended it, he was a nice normal bloke but I think it’s hard to have an ordinary life in that position

Fucktuates · 22/06/2019 13:02

Name change and tell us then name change back Grin

RonnieOnions · 22/06/2019 13:04

No chance, I’m so paranoid about people even knowing that we live in a village!!

fraxion · 22/06/2019 13:07

so he comes here to get ignored as Scots tend to be fairly dour and not speak to people

Really? The whole of Scotland is full of dour people? Maybe it's just you or maybe it's the fact we're just not phased by 'famous people'. Even the royals can go about their merry way without any fuss when they are in the area, no-one bats an eyelid.

OralBElectricToothbrush · 22/06/2019 13:08

I have a friend who's name would be recognisable if I wrote it here. It's funny because in his normal speech he has a rather strong regional accent. He also gets lots of female attention, but he's definitely gay. We did get stopped one time when out, someone asked if he was X. He replied in his usual voice, no, I get that a lot, though.

WHAT91 · 22/06/2019 13:10

fraxion I agree. I think other nations are far more dour than the friendly Scots.

OralBElectricToothbrush · 22/06/2019 13:11

whose, sorry.

GigiToday · 22/06/2019 13:11

@RonnieOnions How did you meet DH? Was he already famous?

@GidgetGirl Is your DP an actor or something else?

OP posts:
my2bundles · 22/06/2019 13:14

Ronnie onions Is it Stephen Graham?

Meline · 22/06/2019 13:15

I went out with a now very famous actor for a few months, and while he was great, and a genuinely low-key person who tried to go under the radar — with the added advantage that while he looks beautiful onscreen, he looks quite odd in the flesh — I found the scrutiny intolerable and ended it.

VivienneHolt · 22/06/2019 13:17

Not my DH, but my grandfather is famous. I was used to people stopping him growing up, just thought it was normal. He now lives a relatively quiet life so doesn’t happen now!

AnnieOH1 · 22/06/2019 13:17

Not my DH but an ex of mine, one of the primary reasons I ended things was the intrusion. I still have a copy of the articles though that were "who is this mystery woman". It was fun for a bit and I wish him well but so much of his life (and our lives at the time) wasn't real. It all felt like a performance as soon as we weren't alone.

Bluerussian · 22/06/2019 13:18

Not husband but son. No he is not cocky, he's very unassuming, much like he was as a boy (less noisy now:-) ).

A lot of people don't know straight off, he lives quietly and has a fairly modest house. I'm pleased and so is my husband.

Tallgreenbottle · 22/06/2019 13:23

So @Meline dated Tom Hiddleston then...

DuMondeB · 22/06/2019 13:23

he looks beautiful onscreen, he looks quite odd in the flesh

I went on a few dates with a TV/film actor. He told me that most people in the profession are quite short with relatively big heads, because that’s what works best on screen!

GidgetGirl · 22/06/2019 13:23

@GigiToday Comedy generally, but acting too.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 22/06/2019 13:23

I'm often married to Chris Hemsworth in my dreams....does that count??
