Man-handling climate change protestors

Leafyhouse · 20/06/2019 23:17

Anyone else watch with horror as a climate change protestor was forcefully removed by Mark Field from the Mansion House speech? I mean, I'm no fan of political activism, 'direct action' and so on, but she wasn't presenting him with any direct threat, just shouting and being annoying. AIBU to think that his behaviour was totally unacceptable there?

This woman is no innocent, search her name and you can see she has been at several protests....
What exactly do you thing she was marching round the tables to do....

1984in2019 · 21/06/2019 13:22

People on this thread defending this violent attack should really reflect on the power imbalance intrinsic to that assault. Former MP Mark Field clearly could not control his anger - he displayed shameful bullying violent behaviour.

MissEliza · 21/06/2019 13:23

@StreamsFullOfStars the problem is that man in question wasn't provoked, she was running past him.

Having attended several protests makes her guilty of something? Confused

Alsohuman · 21/06/2019 13:24

We’re allowed to protest peacefully. She’s a Greenpeace activist, of course she’s been on several protests. Has she ever assaulted anyone?

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/06/2019 13:25

I thought a lot had walked in unchallenged. Through the front door, through the security check, through the corridor and into the banquet room

Yes that was what was reported on the news

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 13:27

In 2005, John Prescott punched a man who had thrown an egg at him

It was reportedly one instinctive jab to fend off another egg - Prescott used to be a boxer -
not a deliberate and prolonged manhandling

Prescott after the event was very worried, as were Labour
The nation was divided in opinion - many Tories said he was a thug; some in Labour initially thought he should resign

It only helped his reputation among some people
Among others, it confirmed the impression that he was an ill-disciplined lout

bellinisurge · 21/06/2019 13:27

"It's really sad that so many posters have a really devalued view of women and themselves"
I would say the same if she were a man and he were a woman.

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/06/2019 13:28

She must be doing a lot for climate change the number of trips she is doing to London

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2019 13:28

Does that mean people should assault me because I go to protests?

TheQueef · 21/06/2019 13:29

The Prescott punch was obviously a reflex reaction, this scummer had a minute or two to wind himself up that the proles were invading.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 13:29

They were unchallenged about being there, because they were dressed like guests
and reportedly the event didn't have invitation cards

However, they had been checked in the security screen
"walked through" doesn't mean without being checked for weapons etc

You can’t even get into Disney on fucking Ice without a bag check.

No way can you get into a dinner reception full of government ministers without one!

mummmy2017 · 21/06/2019 13:31

But if I deliberately went to an event univited, dress to call attention to myself and with a group of others who were shouting, am I not going with the intent too upset people?
This was a private event remember....

Alsohuman · 21/06/2019 13:32

We can’t manhandle anyone who upsets us. Or at least not in my world.

And good on those demonstrators - climate change is such an incredibly serious problem, and only a small minority of people have the courage to stand up and call the politicians to account.

MsTSwift · 21/06/2019 13:36

Just read she has 31 rabbits. Respect. We had 2 and ended up with 7.

He acted like a violent thug and what he did was assault. Thats my subjective view anyway. Good for her brave lady.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 13:36

It would be wrong to manhandle a peaceful man like that, too

It is generally regarded as even less justified however, when there is the disparity in size, strength and threat of a man assaulting a woman

Back in 2005, I thought Prescott was a lout and an idiot to throw that punch

He actually had been mildly assaulted, but was retaliating disproportionately against a demonstrator
However, it was one instinctive punch, not sustained deliberate manhandling

and it was in a street, obv noone had been through security and the guy could have thrown anything
BUT what ifs still didn't justify Prescott's reaction

Gth1234 · 21/06/2019 13:37

I am pretty sure whoever was checking names as they walked in won't be getting the gig again.

Parliament needs to have a good look at how they manage their security. Hammond ought to be spitting mad. How many MPs were exposed to danger last night?

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/06/my-night-at-the-mansion-house-climate-protest/

Alsohuman · 21/06/2019 13:38

None. HTH.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 21/06/2019 13:41

And it is sad that you think an assault on this woman is in any way justified. Some views of ourselves as women are ingrained. And should be challenged

Entirely agree with all anti-assault people. In my view, assault is never justified. But this was not an assault!

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2019 13:41

"How many MPs were exposed to danger last night?"

None

A lot of wealthy & powerful people from our ruling elite, some MPs, had their dinner spoiled

Only 1 idiot MP manhandled anyone
The rest behaved like sensible adults
