I disagree with those who say that Boris is more able to beat Corbyn in a GE than Hunt is.
Boris is "popular" in that a small group of people really like him (like Corbyn in that respect). That is not the same as being liked (or even seen as neutral) by large numbers.
Hunt is more likely to be seen as "the lesser of two evils" by centre/centre right voters if up against Corbyn I think.
If comparisons have to be made, id say that Boris is more like Corbyn than Trump. In that they were both a "cult" figure, with a small core of passionate supporters but alienating to most voters.
Some Labour supporters were convinced Labour would smash the last GE because Corbyn was "popular". But having your name sung by crowds is not the same as having the wide support needed to win a GE.
Those inside a Conservative bubble will not see that though (any clearer than those inside certain labour bubbles), and may assume that Boris is popular with the masses. So although many Conservative members will vote for Boris because they like him, others will vote for him despite their dislike in the insanely misguided belief that he will make the Conservatives more electable!
