And we don’t have to have Boris as PM?

Boris is like trump because like Trump he is a buffoon.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 20/06/2019 19:25

People equate Johnson with Trump because they are both self serving, crass and misogynistic. They both also have ridiculous hair and seem to make a point of saying and doing incredibly thoughtless things that people forgive because they think it's amusing. I've never been amused and even less so that mendacious prick is going to be leading the country.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 20/06/2019 19:26

Or yes, exactly what boredtoday said

TheAngryLlama · 20/06/2019 19:28

I despise Boris utterly but I’m not clear where the allegation of misogyny comes from?
Socially he is pretty liberal (well given his history he could hardly be otherwise). That’s not the problem with him. The problem with him is he is lazy, dishonest and incompetent. His verbal articulacy conceals lack of genuine ability. As soon as he got a proper job he failed at it. Why would you give him a second chance?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 20/06/2019 19:35

Muslim women look like letter boxes is a normal thing to say then?

chilledteacher · 20/06/2019 19:41

It's a bit of a "would you rather have Genital Herpes or Syphilis" kind of choice. Neither is appealing to be honest...

silvercuckoo · 20/06/2019 19:42

At least Boris has some sort of vision for post-Brexit Britain. Becoming a low tax high regulation environment could be a very sound strategy.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 20/06/2019 19:49

@silvercuckoo you must be cuckoo, the man is a liability.

Oneminuteandthenallgone · 20/06/2019 19:55

Estelle Morris said today that She would back Jeremy Hunt of the 3 (at the time) left in. Apparently he set up and funds an education/orphans charity in Africa and is a genuine guy (not her words). Just googled it and found

work with, and financial support for, the Nyumbani UK and Hotcourses Foundation, an educational and health care charity for underprivileged children in Kenya, particularly orphans.

silvercuckoo · 20/06/2019 19:57

@TopBitchoftheWitches
Why? I am not a big fan of him (and being not British, not allowed to vote in GE and definitely not a member of the Conservative party have no axe to grind), but what he is proposing at least has internal consistency and makes economic sense.
On the personal level I do find him quite unpleasant, as ~95% of the previous posters.

TheAngryLlama · 20/06/2019 20:02

I’m not saying he’s above a bit of dog whistle stuff for what he now perceives as his constituency but I’m not convinced the letter box remark is evidence of misogyny I’m afraid.
This is kind of where the left ends up giving the unpleasant elements of the right traction. It looks OTT and daft to say he’s like trump he’s a misogynist and all of that. I don’t think he is those things but the problems with him are plenty big enough and the dafter comments prevent the well founded objections getting the airtime they really should get.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 20/06/2019 20:02

The last 2 each have to pay Tory HQ £125k for the hustings
Why? What does it pay for? What if they didn't have it?
They get 150k for being PM excl the perks obvs...they might not be PM for long given hard brexit is career suicide and a genreral election might happen - who would pay out 125k for a title they only have 50% chance of getting?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 20/06/2019 20:11

@silvercuckoo

He said Muslim women looked like letterboxes, he messed up badly as the mayor of London with his plans.
He lies. He is a proven liar.
No one can believe a word he says.

Laiste · 20/06/2019 20:11

I just wish we still had Spitting Image ....

silvercuckoo · 20/06/2019 20:22

@TopBitchoftheWitches
Muslim women comment was definitely rude (maybe intentionally so, i.e. trying to woo simpler minds), but does not make him a bad manager / leader / politician. A bad person, maybe.
I fell in love with London under the BJ leadership, did not see anything particularly wrong. Is it the famous bridge project? Unpleasant, but - realistically - every top manager will have a couple of fails like that. I work for a multinational company with a very strong commercial / profit-orientated culture, where every cent in expense is scrutinised at several levels, and we still have failed projects with similar budgets (and we are much smaller than London!!!).
Lies, I did not know about. Do you have an example?

givemesteel · 20/06/2019 20:24

Boris Johnson actually polls really well and based on poles could actually win a majority. Obviously polls seem to be very unreliable but someone must like him to get those results.

It's very easy to say oh Boris and Trump are the same, but there's really not a lot of evidence for that.

How many people quoting the Muslim women / letterboxes article have read it? It is actually defending Muslim women's right to wear the burka in the UK, unlike France and Belgium which have banned it.

I agree with Boris's stance on the burka, I think it's a garment that signifies oppression of women that is traditionally the case in some countries. However, I don't agree with banning it and believe women (and men) should have the freedom to wear what they want and no religious garment should be banned. I haven't described Muslim women as looking like letterboxes, and agree this was an ill thought out thing to write but it's been completely taken out of context and exaggerated.

TheAngryLlama · 20/06/2019 20:24

He is an opportunist, like all politicians, but he does a worse job than most of them if hiding it. Because he is lazy, incompetent, and not a fraction as clever as he thinks he is.
There are no hidden depths here. He seems crap because he is crap.

givemesteel · 20/06/2019 20:25

*polls not poles, sorry.

TheWaiting · 20/06/2019 20:29

Get rid of Corbyn, Watson in charge. Force a GE, stand on the platform of a Confirmatory vote and then we’ll really know what the public want. People can opt to revoke or leave but they need to be presented with the facts this time. If the public votes to leave in a second ballot I’ll hold my hands up and accept the result as long as the campaign is based on facts rather than the fabled Unicorn Brexit.

noodlenosefraggle · 20/06/2019 20:31

I think of two brexiteers had been on the ballot Give would have won, but having a remainer and a leaver makes Boris a dead cert, I think.

TheWaiting · 20/06/2019 20:31

I blame HIGNFY! They created this monster and now we’re going to be stuck with him as PM.

AngeloMysterioso · 20/06/2019 20:31

Found this article quite interesting - and extremely depressing...

Tory members happy to trash UK economy and destroy their own party to get Brexit, poll finds

TopBitchoftheWitches · 20/06/2019 20:40

@silvercuckoo

The Muslim women comment was misogynistic and sexist and damn right disgusting.
If you want more information on his lies a simple google will help you.

That man is not fit to run a piss up in a brewery, yet people want him to run our country. 🤷‍♀️😡
The whole government is a joke. Something needs to change. It is all so dated and misogynistic.

IsabellaLinton · 20/06/2019 20:41

Boris is home and dry now.

blueiris71 · 20/06/2019 20:43

not ideal, but a million times better than Corbyn
