Neighbour parked on my drive

maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 15:50

In February, neighbour/friend gets clamped and fined for no tax, MOT, insurance. Asks if she can park on my drive a few days until she can afford to sort it all out.

We fell out over something else a few weeks ago over something much more serious, and don't speak anymore. Don't need to drip feed, this part's irrelevant.

The car is still on my drive. I've asked her to move it, she says she will SORN it. Car doesn't start either so I can't just move it myself. If she SORNs it, she will never move it! It's still not taxed or MOTd.

So now I seem to be stuck with it on my drive. Each of the police, DVLA and council have told me it's one of the other responsibilities.

I'm feeling really irritated by life in general and if I wasn't worried it would harm a person, I'd have taken the handbrake off it by now!

(This isn't AIBU to remove the handbrake, it's more of a "I'm really fed up can anyone help please?).

Start a bonfire under it - if its not insured and on your property, she'll come pretty quick. Actually it might go bang. So, maybe not

One of my cars is SORN - endless door knockers wanting to buy it on the cheap, is that an option?

Is it light enough for 4 big blokes to pick up and move to the road?

On a serious note - I'd give her notice, then call a company and get it towed away.

MyOpinionIsValid · 20/06/2019 15:55

Can you open the door - can you get to the handbrake? Roll it to the road. I would

slookiroo · 20/06/2019 15:56

Could you get it towed? I'd go back to the police and ask that the vehicle is impounded. If they refer you back to someone else, explain that you've already tried and ask for the relevant info to quote at the responsible party. Sometimes it takes a few attempts but imagine the satisfaction of the vehicle being impounded!

Sciurus83 · 20/06/2019 15:58

Good God that is a next level CF. Absolutely threaten to tow it if it doesn't get moved by a deadline. Its annoying to have to pay bit less annoying than the continual irritation of having the bloody thing on your drive like a constant middle finger up to you from your neighbour. No no no it's got to go!

HavelockVetinari · 20/06/2019 15:58

Get 2 strong friends and bounce it onto the road (Google it fir technique). It's really not that difficult.

MyOpinionIsValid · 20/06/2019 16:00

Yeah but ! Wait till shes on holiday before you get at it with a blow torch and plant pansies ...

It took a ridiculous effort to get it onto the drive. I wouldn't be able to do it quickly and quietly.

It's a decent car, still has finance on it.

Didn't think you could tow something that you didn't own?

Push it out onto the road - I would.

MadSweeney · 20/06/2019 16:02

Local Facebook group, ask for a bit of help. A few strong men and a couple of trolley jacks will have that gone in a flash.

maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 16:02

@MyOpinionIsValid well that's the first time I've chuckled all day

I agree with pp, get a couple of guys to bounce it onto the road....and then report it for having no tax, MOT, Insurance or whatever.
What an absolute cheek!

mumwon · 20/06/2019 16:06

wasn't there a thread about a rugby team moving a car? have a competition say you will give a rugby group burgers & beer to move car :)

RomanyQueen · 20/06/2019 16:06

tell her to move it or you will leave it in the middle of the road.
Give her 2 hours.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/06/2019 16:07

If she SORNs it, she will never move it!

Correct - she's identified a "solution" to her problem and you're it

Another vote here for a few big lads to shift it (though if you want to be nice you could give her notice first)

maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 16:07

Oh well at least you are all making me laugh!

We had a car dumped outside our house on the road. We had a complaint from a neighbour after he had an accident trying to avoid it. (We live on a corner). We put a notice on it to say if it wasn't moved by (deadline) we'd arrange for it to be towed away and impounded. It disappeared the next day

GabriellaMontez · 20/06/2019 16:08

I would carefully roll it into the road and leave it there...

mummymeister · 20/06/2019 16:10

No one else will get involved with this because it is on private land. Send her a letter giving her 3 days to move it. If it isn't moved then you will need to somehow shove it onto the road. But make sure it's safe not blocking or causing a hazard. Sorry but solely down to you to sort and the quicker the better.

maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 16:11

@GabriellaMontez that's what I want to do, but it's going to be a really tricky manoeuvre. As pp have said, would need to advertise for some big mates

This link sort of helps;

www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q441.htm

it says it's up to the council to take action. Good luck!
?

stucknoue · 20/06/2019 16:11

Is it sorn, if not the police can tow

Mumofboys95 · 20/06/2019 16:12

Phone the finance company if you know who it is and say it's been abandoned

maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 16:13

@Mumofboys95 oh I never thought of that...hmm...

OP posts:
maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 16:13

It's not sorn but the police say private land isn't them

OP posts:
maltesersplease · 20/06/2019 16:15

@CannyLad ah it says on there that pushing it into the road would be an offence too. Seems like I can't win. The council are not the slightest bit interested. They don't do anything quickly around here.
