To hate lip fillers or is it only the bad ones that show?

Are there loads of secret lip fillers about that I'm not aware of because they look natural?

I'm seeing lots and lots of lip fillers around at the moment!

They all show, don't they? There wouldn't be much point otherwise. Shame they look so gross.

mabelsgarden · 18/06/2019 20:01

Kylie Jenner looks better with them. Left: before, right; after...

I think they sometimes look ok when they are static but when they start talking it looks weird.

By show, I meant look obviously fake

Depends on how much you have put in

Jaxinthebox · 18/06/2019 20:09

Lip fillers can look nice IF there isnt too much product used.

I know someone who has them and it just enhances their lips a little. You cant tell that she has fillers.

I cannot stand this duck face look, that is someone who has had far too much and is addicted to 'the look'

1CantPickAName · 18/06/2019 20:13

I have 0.5ml, mostly in my upper lip to plump out lines and it’s natural looking

bobstersmum · 18/06/2019 20:16

Is it something that regularly needs doing? If so, where does the filler disappear to?

Jimjamjooney · 18/06/2019 20:20

bobster if it's a hyaluronic acid filler, the body breaks it down over months with its own hyaluronidase enzymes.

There are natural fillers, just not many practioners good at doing them undetectably. Look at The Consuntalt clinic on instagram, they don't have the ridge!

Sparklesocks · 18/06/2019 20:22

A friend of mine has them but you wouldn’t know, she only has a small amount of filler and they have a natural shape.

I think it’s like most cosmetic work - if it’s really good you don’t notice it’s not natural.

shutyourlittleface · 18/06/2019 20:22

@Jimjamjooney thanks Jimjam can you link me to it?

Popc0rn · 18/06/2019 20:24

@bobstersmum most fillers nowadays are made of hyaluronic acid, which is in your body naturally and gets metabolised by your body in about 4-6 months (depends on your metabolism so I'm told).

I'm a nurse and know 6 nurses that do lip fillers 'on the side'. My instagram is full of lips as a result! Of those 6, only one of them does lip fillers which look natural (and quite nice to be honest). The other 5 look duck like, and some are awful. The difference is probably that the girl who is good at them has done advanced training, and the others have just done a one day course.

bobstersmum · 18/06/2019 20:25

Wow! If I had the money I might be tempted to try!

Jimjamjooney · 18/06/2019 20:55

I must be living on another planet as I think its the strangest thing to stick chemicals into your (otherwise normal) lips. Nurses (mentioned) don't earn millions and aren't Hollywood actors or models. So who or what are they doing it for? It makes no sense to me. (But even if I were a millionairess I wouldn't have it done).

CaptainCabinets · 18/06/2019 21:58

I have lip fillers and they look so natural that I had an entire conversation with someone about them who was going on about how simply dreadful fillers looked and how obvious they are. I let them rant on and on and then told them I had fillers. They looked very embarrassed. Smile

Anarchyshake · 18/06/2019 22:06

What has been seen cannot be unseen. Some frightening pictures on that insta page, of When Lips Go Wrong.

Personally, all of the pictures of women with fillers on their page are When Lips Go Wrong. But that's their choice, if they didn't appreciate how stunning they already were.

But the ones with the 'dinghy lips' makes me wonder why tf anyone risks it.

Hmmmmmmum · 18/06/2019 22:11

They look bad when they have been overfilled. 1ml of lip filler won't give you the duck look. But repeated treatments will get you that effect...

It's like makeup. Too much and it can look trashy. Cheap products and it looks nasty. Poor application and it looks a mess!

Maneandfeathers · 18/06/2019 22:13

I have lip fillers.

I had no lips. None.
I hated smiling, hated getting my photo taken. My chin looked huge because there were no lips to balance out my face.
I am not joking when I said I just had skin with a tiny red line around it for a lip.

I’m 100% happier and don’t care who thinks they look fake!

YouTheCat · 18/06/2019 22:18

I see a young woman at the bus stop every morning. She looks like you could stick her on a window by her lips.

She's already nice looking anyway, slim and, I'd reckon, no older than late 20s.

TheGlitterFairy · 18/06/2019 22:19

I love lip fillers when done well. I’ve had them previously and they were very natural.

Whatsername7 · 18/06/2019 22:22

I think im one of the only people in my team at work who doesnt have either fillers, botox or eyelash extensions. Im terrified of modifying my face and it going wrong. I also struggle to justify the cost. Yet I also feel quite inadequate next to my enhanced colleagues.

Grumpos · 18/06/2019 22:23

Lots and lots of people have cosmetic work that you wouldn’t know about.
Several of my friends (and me) have had a bit of Botox but not one looks frozen or weird.
A few of my friends have lip fillers because they have very very thin lips which they’ve never liked and have been happy with the results. Although they all say lip fillers THE most painful of all the injections.

Basically what I’m saying is - there are a lot of people who if you didn’t know them before, you wouldn’t know they’ve had the odd Botox or filler - lips, chin, cheeks etc because the work is good and well balanced in their face.

Like everything, people get carried away and it no longer looks like a natural feature.

Jimjamjooney · 18/06/2019 22:24

Anarchyshake I promise I'm in no way affiliated with the company and I've never had any work done so I'm not coming from a place of defensiveness- are you really saying everyone on that page has botched fillers? Really?

mabelsgarden · 18/06/2019 22:27

LOL. At the same time though, how flattering that she didn't notice your lip fillers but just thought they were natural. Smile

@Maneandfeathers

Would love to see a before and after of you (With skinny lips, and plump...) Understand if you don't want to post pics of you obvs. Smile

Glad you are happy now.

I have seen many young women - under 35 - however, who were properly pretty, gorgeous, lovely young women, and yet they didn't see it, and have filled their face with botox and collegen, and to be honest, looked waaaay better before. Sad

Pre 2000s, I don't think this was a thing. Maybe amongst famous folk, but not ordinary folk.
