I read this Quora answer and was bewildered to learn of all these new genders:

Seagender? Canisgender? Numbergender? Am I misunderstanding something here? Are these real? They sound like something invented by a self-dramatizing 14 year old with an interest in writing fantasy fiction and not enough ordinary social interaction.

I would genuinely, seriously like to know if you, or anyone you know, actually identifies as xenogender. How do these genders effect sexual encounters or anything whatsoever in that person's life? How can they tell that's their gender and not just a preference for a hobby, for instance? What's the point?

I don't want to be dismissive of new ideas and social changes, but from what I read here, not one of these would pass the oh-don't-be-so-silly test. AIBU?

LordProf, you're about right there in that as far as I can see most of the people who are even the smallest bit into any of this stuff will also disclose readily they've never has a romantic relationship. Which of course is completely normal and many people don't want one, but it all smacks of trying to explain away what we might once called "an awkward stage" or indeed adolescence.
