To believe in the powers of the full moon?

When teaching, my old headmistress who is the least woo person in the world said the kid's behaviour deteriates at full moon.
I cannot sleep well during a full moon and i believe it is evolutionary as humans gad to be more alert when predators gad good visibilty...and my goodness, there were some arseholes on the road today!
Plus more babies are born on full moon and my period coincides with it. Aubu?

I think it def does have an effect on mood etc. I've felt in a really low mood the last day or so.

cherryblossomgin · 18/06/2019 12:13

I used to do nights in nursing home, if it was a full moon the clients seemed to be more active in the night.

BarbedBloom · 18/06/2019 12:30

I was also born on a full moon, just found that out. This is really interesting

HB2019 · 18/06/2019 12:32

39w here and was really hoping the full moon would work it's magic, but no baby yet Smile

fairiesandelves · 18/06/2019 13:49

I watched the most beautiful full moon from a hospital window while helping my DD while she was mid labour. DGS was born few hours later extra magical. Another baby boy due 3 days before August's full moon and I'm the other birth partner again so here's hoping!

I woke at 4.30am as well. Very unusu for me. Couldn't get back to sleep. Also felt skittish the last few days.

fairiesandelves · 18/06/2019 13:50

HB I think the full moon effects can last up to 2 days after !! How exciting for you Smile

Fivebyfivesq · 18/06/2019 13:56

Absolutely 100% believe. I practise ashtanga yoga and we don’t practise on ‘moon days’ (like today) because it’s believed new and full moons make you more prone to injury.

I’ve also worked in customer facing roles for 10+ years and things definitely heat up when there’s a full moon coming!

Fivebyfivesq · 18/06/2019 14:02

...obviously I meant yesterday 🧐

MaMisled · 18/06/2019 14:09

I've worked in elderly care for 37 years and there is no doubt that falls, confusion, wandering and agitation ramp up during the full moon. It's an accepted fact!

archibald · 18/06/2019 16:19

Ex Teacher here. Definitely saw a difference on full-moon days. And when it was windy. And these were secondary kids, of all ages.

theworldistoosmall · 18/06/2019 16:23

I do believe. I know it's a full moon without looking out of the window. Eldest acts up more than usual.
The cats also act differently.

Goldenhedgehogs · 18/06/2019 16:32

Back in the day Mumsnet had a picture of that days moon phase at the top of the page. This was so you could check the phase before reading or posting as it was widely held the threads went more wild during a full moon.

AbsentmindedWoman · 18/06/2019 17:04

Its pretty amazing to lie at night, with the curtains open, feeling a gentle pulling motion from the moon on skin. I get that most people will never experience this though.

You really think opening the curtains somehow opens the path to feeling a physical gravitational pull from the moon?

cardibach · 18/06/2019 17:06

I remember that, Golden! I miss it.

ThatsUnusual · 18/06/2019 17:07

Always thought it was tosh but read the thread and realise I ovulate every full moon; that's insane!

My mood has been really hectic too, and I made a big life changing decision (thankfully for the better) yesterday.

SilverySurfer · 18/06/2019 17:12

The moon is too far away for its gravitational pull to have impact on an individual human body

The gravitational pull of the moon shifts oceans around the planet so I'm pretty sure it can have an impact on a puny human being.

iklboo · 18/06/2019 17:15

The moon has such an effect on the Earth it causes the tides.

And humans are mostly water Smile. We've kept a record for the last 2 years and our complaints rocket at full moon. Could be coincidence......

AravisQueenOfArchenland · 18/06/2019 17:19

Has anyone ever tested the effects of the moon, on small (or smaller than oceans at least), amounts of water?

Crapplepie · 18/06/2019 17:20

Past emergency services worker - yep, full moon = fight night!

BigfanofCheese · 18/06/2019 17:25

I worked in bars for years as a student, always far more fights and arguments on a full moon. Security staff all said the same.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/06/2019 17:29

Omg! I just looked up my son’s birthday and he was born on a full moon! I was induced but went from 2 cm to delivery in 40 minutes. This moon thing explains it!

TheInebriati · 18/06/2019 17:29

The moon is always there and its always the same size. A full moon just has more sunlight shining on it.

RedPink · 18/06/2019 17:56

HERE is a Full Moon date calculator

RedPink · 18/06/2019 18:11

Interesting article referencing plenty of studies of studies on the effect of the moon on childbirth

I believe in cognitive bias 😅

Honestly this is such an easy thing to prove or disprove. Births are recorded and the lunar cycle is recorded. I'm sure if there was any actual evidence that it were true then someone on this thread could point me in the right direction of some proper research.

Oliversmumsarmy · 18/06/2019 18:50

TheInebriati the moon when full or as you put it has the sun shining on it is closer to the earth when it is described as a full moon. It isn’t a static object.

I think they found that there was a 1% increase in births around a full moon.

If there is no connection between a full moon and onset of labour then my local hospital is severely under staffed and hasn’t enough beds in the labour ward because a few hours after I arrived the only spare room was the coffee lounge which was overflowing.

If it is supposedly like this every night then my town must be doubling in size every few years.
