To believe in the powers of the full moon?

When teaching, my old headmistress who is the least woo person in the world said the kid's behaviour deteriates at full moon.
I cannot sleep well during a full moon and i believe it is evolutionary as humans gad to be more alert when predators gad good visibilty...and my goodness, there were some arseholes on the road today!
Plus more babies are born on full moon and my period coincides with it. Aubu?

Emergency services. Yes I believe in it
Try weekend, full moon, pay day and bank holiday in one. No thank you Grin

Oh god, yes... I'm a primary school teacher and it's definitely more of a challenge around a full moon.

My Y2 class were giddy today. Giddy, I tell you. More issues at playtime, more tears, more chatty...

Guadalquivir19 · 17/06/2019 21:15

Do you know what I think you might be onto something. I'm normally on a 28 day cycle but at the end of last week I started my period after only 20 days. It caught me by surprise, I thought there was something wrong with me to start my period early. I didn't link it to the full moon until I read this thread, my period might be resetting itself.

darkriver19886 · 17/06/2019 21:18

My mental health does struggle at the full moon. I believe it.

Beekeeper1 · 17/06/2019 21:19

Absolutely there is more than an element of truth in this - the moon has a huge influence on us and the natural world. Not just tides, but other water bodies too and anything containing moisture. I have conducted some experiments and observations, ( not structured or in a controlled environment so only empiric and subjective!), but seed germination and young plant growth appears to increase at the time of the full moon, as it does with a new moon when tidal pull is also enhanced. Perhaps something connected to water uptake and cell development. Oh, I am a sea angler too and best tides for fish activity are the Spring Tides which occur at every full and new moon. Yes, the moon influences many facets of our lives, besides being beautiful to look at.

Another RMN here, used to dread night shifts when it was a full moon! Could always guarantee the ward would be really unsettled & there’s be a few emergency admissions flying around too.

RichPetunia · 17/06/2019 21:25

My ex partner told me a story relayed to him by a friend who was a nurse. The friend worked in a secure mental hospital and at full moon the patients were given extra meds because otherwise they went crazy (or more crazy considering where they were). It was standard practice.

OldSiam · 17/06/2019 21:26

Just googled and found I was born on a full moon
My poor mum
Yes fully believe it as I work in emergency services. It’ll go bonkers and then someone will say “full moon” and we’ll all go “aah”

Troels · 17/06/2019 21:32

I've found the days before and after are when the patients at the dementia home I work in seem to be totally off kilter. Sunday night was bad. I'll find out how tonight went when I get there in the morning.

wildone84 · 17/06/2019 21:33

I ovulate on the full moon every month and it makes me feel more energetic. My mother who was an A&E nurse said that A&E would always be crazy busy when the full moon was happening.

According to ancient wisdom (I think it is Native American) if you have your period on a full moon, it means you have the role of mother within the tribe. The women who ovulate on the full moon are thought to have the role of wise woman within the tribe, not mother. Not saying it's true just an interesting thing I read recently.

Siameasy · 17/06/2019 21:34

Really fascinating I feel quite energetic today I wonder if it’s the moon
DD was being crazed but she always is

BikeRunSki · 17/06/2019 21:43

When I was 36 weeks pg I had a hospital appt, where the midwife looked in her diary to make my next appt and jokingly said “ooh it’s a full moon on Saturday, I might not need yo see you next week”. DS came early on Sunday morning, nearly 4 weeks early..

JamAndCreamBiccies · 17/06/2019 21:45

It's well known as fight night when you do night shift in A&E on a full moon.

Beekeeper1 · 17/06/2019 21:47

Full moon was actually at 9.30 this morning ( in UK) so is waning gibbous now, but still appears full. Gonna go out in a minute or two and gaze at it in awe and wonder!

littlemissalwaystired · 17/06/2019 21:50

Another midwife here who can confirm that full moons definitely make for crazy shifts!

aKnittingNameChangesSister · 17/06/2019 21:51

I have a DS who has Autism and the full moon definitely changes his behaviour for the worse - I can usually tell you if it's a full moon without looking it up just by how he is

sazzle27 · 17/06/2019 21:57

Frontline emergency services - patients are definitely affected by the moon.. higher incidences of certain jobs, and A&E is crazy..

Jellykat · 17/06/2019 22:00

I completely believe it makes a difference, only managed 4 hours sleep last night and didn't know it was a full moon.. now i know why, i've always slept really badly on full moons!
Plus my ex always used to get more aggressive around the full moon, to the point i'd make excuses and avoid going anywhere with him at that time.

MitziK · 17/06/2019 22:04

Well, my periods have always been 29 days apart, and couple of days after the full moon, and DD1 was born a week early (planned section for malpresentation) without me feeling a single symptom of being ready, DD2 was born three days after the full moon, but I had been in early labour since then.

What makes me accept this one example of Woo, though, is that I have been in so much pain in my joints over the last couple of days, it's ridiculous - and this happens every month without fail; I started monitoring good and bad days along with mood, what food I'd had, etc, several years ago and didn't expect the one thing to remain constant to be the moon phase.

managedmis · 17/06/2019 22:05

So that's why the kids were rampant last night!

Kidding aside, I agree. It affects you.

malificent7 · 18/06/2019 07:03

Mitzik...could be the moon affects the water in your joints. This is all v interesting stuff!

EleanorReally · 18/06/2019 07:07

The police always used to be aware of a full moon, so I heard.

TroysMammy · 18/06/2019 07:07

I seem to find that people get more ridiculous about 2 days after. They seem to keep it hidden during the day of the full moon.

EleanorReally · 18/06/2019 07:09

Well this is where the word Lunatic comes from

EleanorReally · 18/06/2019 07:10

One of the lady's i look after with dementia was particularly confused yesterday, could this be why?
