To ask when you started to feel ‘old’?

I didn’t feel old until the birthday just gone but suddenly it’s hit me like a ton of bricks that I’m old now and getting older fast!
I don’t know if it’s like a mid life crisis but time suddenly seems to have sped up and be running out. I no longer feel like there are a lot of opportunities for me and this time is now just ‘waiting time.’
It’s very depressing!

I'd say once I turned 50 and experiencing peri menopausal systems I feel so drained and out of sorts. I don't feel that I look particularly old but my mindset feels old.

PerfectPeony2 · 16/06/2019 21:48

I’m 27... I feel old.

In a good way though. I like to stay at home with a cup of tea, I feel like DH and I are a content married old couple.

My grandma is 73 and acts younger than I do. She is very glamorous and has a great social life.

MyFavouritePlace · 16/06/2019 21:48

Symptoms not systems!

cricketballs3 · 16/06/2019 21:48

Last week - a yr9 student asked me if I had grandkids....I'm still in my 40s😭

goodluckandgodspeed · 16/06/2019 21:48

I don’t like the #livingmybestlife.
It annoys me.
I’m like ‘I’m just over here, living my regular crappy life.’

teachesofpeaches I love that song!

Last year when we worked out in the office that I was old enough to be the mother of most of the other people in my team, and in two cases their grandmother. I'm 53. Most of them didnt realise how old I am.

I have been ill over the last year and had surgery two weeks ago. I have lots of plans for the future so when I'm back on my feet I'm looking forward to cracking on with things. Underneath it all I don't really feel that old, more surprised that I'm waving at 60.

Whosorrynow · 16/06/2019 21:52

Having to read at arm's-length does make me feel a bit old because it's a kind of a typical old person's mannerism, but other than that I'm mid 50s and don't feel or consider myself to be old

Whippet75 · 16/06/2019 21:53

44, mainly as my eye sight has changed and I should wear glasses but keep putting it off.
I also have wrinkles now but if I don't get glasses I won't see them as clearly.

mizu · 16/06/2019 21:53

Had a hysterectomy 3.5 years ago and I feel great at 46. Time is whizzing by though, it's almost going too fast this year, I can't seem to catch it Grin

EnglishRose13 · 16/06/2019 21:53

When Heelys became massive and I thought they we extremely dangerous.

So, when I was about 12...

KaleidoscopeEyes · 16/06/2019 21:56

When the young male pharmacist called me Madam 🙄

Starlive23 · 16/06/2019 21:57

When I stopped watching Hollyoaks and started watching Gardner's world!

SerenDippitty · 16/06/2019 22:12

58 here - I did feel a bit old when I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees last year, but mentally don’t feel old at all.

Sundancer77 · 16/06/2019 22:35

Looks wise, I’d say the crows feet/laughter lines around my eyes became very visible almost all of a sudden at 38/39, but I still felt young..ish..(travelled lots, went to festivals, hung out on beaches drinking etc)
Since I’ve had my Dd 10 months ago (at age 40) I feel I’ve aged 🤣 I’m sure that’s to do more with the no sleep, aching all over etc..but I do have grey hairs coming in all of a sudden, smell of bleach from constant cleaning crap up instead of perfume and really haven’t had a chance to take care of myself at all 😏
In some ways I still feel young..ish as she’s so tiny and keeps things fun in lots of ways, but in other ways I feel old 🙄

Monsterinmypocket · 16/06/2019 22:55

When I first woke up with a hangover. A proper hangover that lasts for days!

IGottaSeeJane · 16/06/2019 23:05

When we started having new joiners at work who were born after England won the World Cup.

Cooroo · 16/06/2019 23:23

I'm nearly 60. I'll let you know when I start feeling old.

DishingOutDone · 16/06/2019 23:26

Another vote here for knees and hips being the indicator! Mine hurt all the time now, I'm 56.

I am also definitely not living anyone's best life but not sure whose fault that is!

OMGLongVac · 16/06/2019 23:32

29, when I went back to college and realised how young teenagers are.

Rach182 · 16/06/2019 23:38
  1. When I realised I knew nothing about teen pop culture. When I started saying stuff like... kids today don't know good music.

And eye opener was when I was invited to an oldies/ retro night at a club opening... and asked where all the old people were (club full of late 20s/ 30 year olds like me), just to be told we were the oldies.

toriathet · 16/06/2019 23:38

apart for a few illnesses ive been diagnosed with the last years, ibs, fatigue,GERD and low b6 and b12 caused by being anemic which are under control via medication i feel no different than i did in my 20s ,in fact its improved in 2015 when i discovered the home education world and the stress of school was taken away, since then our life has severely improved via money and holidays every 4-6 weeks

we still dont sleep because of the kids disabilities and they still need 24 hour care at 14 an 8 but we have been that way since 2010 so we are used to it by now

i even want another baby in a few years

NoShitHemlock · 16/06/2019 23:59

Last Thursday ffs.

I have complained about being "old" for the last 10 years, but I truly felt old on Thursday and this time when I called myself a dinosaur I actually believed it.

It's not going to get any better is it Hmm

Drogosnextwife · 17/06/2019 00:06

I feel much older than I am. I just turned 29. I've also got very boring in the last year. I just don't have as much energy as I used to. Never really though about that until just now but perhaps there's something else going on.

Orangeballon · 17/06/2019 00:23

Yes, you are being ridiculous, I remember when I was your age 28 years ago, I was full of life and Zim..

Saracen · 17/06/2019 00:49

Not yet - I'm 50. I have been middle aged for quite some time and am confortably ensconced in that phase.

Mind you , a few months ago I was in the ladies' when a couple of teenaged girls were giggling at how the high-speed hand driers made their skin move around. I was very tempted to show them how much better I was at that particular party trick!
