He doesn’t drink anymore, else I would get a bottle of champagne.
Any ideas that I can get today?

What’s your budget? I’d check travelzoo etc for a voucher for afternoon tea

Apolloanddaphne · 15/06/2019 09:44

A plant for their garden?

PoptartPoptart · 15/06/2019 10:16

A gift voucher for a restaurant so they can go for a nice meal together (most supermarkets sell the vouchers).
Doesn’t have to be anywhere fancy, you can buy vouchers for all sorts of places (Pizza Express, Zizzi, TGI’s, etc. depending on what you have near you)

Hollowvictory · 15/06/2019 10:19

Nobody wants a voucher for pizza express, tgi Fridays or zizzis. 😂😂😂

katewhinesalot · 15/06/2019 10:21

Get something from a site like "buyagift" The experiences are transferable so tell them to change it for something different if they don't fancy what you choose"

BeanBag7 · 15/06/2019 10:27

Depends on your budget. I'm guessing £35 ish as that's about the cost of a bottle of champagne (I'm no connoisseur so I may be wrong about this!).

I would get an experience such as afternoon tea at a nice hotel, a couples spa treatment or something.

PoptartPoptart · 15/06/2019 10:27

@Hollowvictory speak for yourself!
DH and I often pop into Pizza Express for a quick bite when out and about shopping, or before the cinema!

Hollowvictory · 15/06/2019 10:30

But would you want that as a gift? I do take the kids to pizza express sometimes but I would not fancy that as a 40th birthday joint gift somehow. It's like getting asda vouchers or a b & q gift voucher. Functional.

Voucher for local restaurant

BeanBag7 · 15/06/2019 10:32

@Poptart I think the problem with somewhere like Pizza Express is that it's exactly as you said - somewhere to pop for a quick meal when out and about. Usually for a gift I would want to have a special meal out, somewhere the couple wouldn't go on a normal day. Maybe a bit more expensive or fancy, or somewhere you could spend an evening having a meal rather than an hour dash in and out for pizza before going to the cinema.

val4 · 15/06/2019 10:33

What about a subscription for a magazine or a ' dinner and movie' voucher?

Coronapop · 15/06/2019 10:35

You could make a donation to a charity instead, perhaps a local one. Otherwise something like a plant eg orchid as another poster suggested.

OhCheesus · 15/06/2019 10:35

Leaving it to the last minute much! What do they like? What's the budget? You could do a membership (art gallery, RHS, NT, local arts venue) or subscription (private eye magazine if they like politics, another magazine that fits their interest), years cheese box subscription, Hotel Chocolat subscription, voucher to buy art online. Paid night in local spa hotel.

Ploppymoodypants · 15/06/2019 10:35

Oh I would love a voucher to somewhere like pizza express etc. Or b&q voucher for that matter. Means I can spend my own money on a treat.

Singlenotsingle · 15/06/2019 10:41

Something for the garden? A tree? We bought a pear tree and a Victoria plum tree a few years ago and get loads of fruit every Autumn . Grin

katewhinesalot · 15/06/2019 10:44

But not something for the garden that requires work. Something in a pot rather than something that has to be planted.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 15/06/2019 10:48

Hotel chocolat hamper? Posh bubble bath for each partner maybe, perhaps a voucher for their favourite coffee shop.

Antiawesometic · 15/06/2019 10:50

My favourite 40th birthday gift was a voucher for the local coffee shop. It lasted for a month.

piefacedClique · 15/06/2019 10:52

A Ticketmaster voucher.... that’s our go to wedding gift at the moment. Hey can chose what they want to do or see

BlueMerchant · 15/06/2019 10:57

How about going to a nice independent restaurant and asking about a voucher. Many will print naice vouchers off. Our local ones do. (Maybe more 'special' than a chain gift-card - although personally I'd be very happy with a pizza express one)

Northernlass99 · 15/06/2019 12:22

Something for the garden, an apple tree or a planter or a big lantern. Garden center will be your go to place today I reckon.

Not a restaurant voucher for a joint 40th.

KittyMarion · 15/06/2019 12:29

If you have a nice independent cinema you could get a voucher for that. We have a nice one and it's lovely to have a nice glass of wine whilst watching the film.

Charley50 · 15/06/2019 12:30

I'd just get a nice plant for the garden or an orchid or something and bring some booze. I don't think people are massively fussed about 'stuff' at the moment.

Banhaha · 15/06/2019 12:34

Chip and dip bowl?

Pollywollydolly · 15/06/2019 13:36

Cinema and restaurant vouchers. That's a night out and Pizza express is fine imho.
