Dfs sofa washing machine

Aibu? Have I gone crazy?

We have a grey Angelica sofa from dfs (bought many moons ago!)

I want to wash it and don't have a lot of time to hire someone to clean it as I'm due a baby any day. Would i be nuts to put the covers in the washing machine? I figured if I washed it on cold and some form of wool/delicate wash?

Talk me out of it if I'm being nuts because I'm on the verge of chucking a cover in to see what happens! 🙈

I washed a loose cover on 30d and it shrank Don’t risk it

sofapanic · 14/06/2019 22:05

Omg I just put it in 😂😂😂

Wel you've done it now. My only advice is to dry naturally not tumble dry and to put back in while still slightly damp.

sofapanic · 14/06/2019 22:08

Yes that's my plan. Im so scared now 🙈 we would never be able to get a new sofa before baby comes 🤦🏻‍♀️ Worst case scenario I'll have to put a throw over the bottom cushions until we got a new one!

Good luck, op. I washed the cushion covers from the garden furniture last week. Shrank them to buggery.

Try stretching gently whilst wet and definitely don't tumble dry.

gubbsywubbsy · 14/06/2019 22:09

I've washed mine before .. def don't tumble dry as that will shrink it .. also put it back on slightly damp and dry it in a sunny part of the room inside .

sofapanic · 14/06/2019 22:09

Oh dear. I think I'm going to put myself into labour with the stress 😂

We wash ours and they come up well. I let them dry naturally and put them back on whilst they are still slightly damp

Tattoosandmemories · 14/06/2019 22:12

I always used to wash mine in the machine! Cool, wool wash & they were fine. Smile

Aph413 · 14/06/2019 22:12

I washed my old ones and whilst they didn't shrink the backing on the inside crumbled and went weird. Didn't risk it again but I don't know if it was a fluke

SunniDay · 14/06/2019 22:12

I have a sofa with those thick chord stripes fabric. I wash and tumble the covers all the time and it's fine. Hope yours is OK.

Clockworkprincess · 14/06/2019 22:12

Our sofas are from dfs and i wash and tumble the covers regularly (we picked cream before even considering children). So far i have had no issues but i always take them out the tumble and put them back on while they still warm. Seems to be a little easier

DontMakeMeShushYou · 14/06/2019 22:12

I've washed ours even though they explicitly said not to. They come up really well.

stayhomeclub · 14/06/2019 22:14

I wash mine on a normal 30 wash and dry them outside on a sunny day. They’re absolutely fine.

sofapanic · 14/06/2019 22:18

Oh thank goodness! You lot have given me some hope back! I feel on edge waiting for the machine to beep 😂

Wash ours all the time two dogs plus kids. Put them back on damp and put them somewhere to dry.

KittyMarion · 14/06/2019 22:22

Well it depends whether it has stain guard on it because they always used to be at great pains to tell you how it would completely fuck your machine if you did.

RogueV · 14/06/2019 22:23

I wash my DFS sofa covers annually on a cold wash then line dry they look beautiful

MamaOfBothTeams · 14/06/2019 22:28

I done mine a while ago, waited until they were pretty much dry, put them back on and they are absolutely fine, sofa is only about 2-3 years old though

hevenly123 · 14/06/2019 22:29

I was only pondering today wether to have a go at washing my one! I’m going to do it ...weirdly exciting?

tempester28 · 14/06/2019 22:34

Don't dry on the radiator, mine had a plastic type lining
and I think the radiator heat shrank the covers - let them dry naturally
and they should be fine.

Cheesybiscuits01 · 14/06/2019 22:38

I washed mine in the machine at 30 last week after a vomit incident. Totally fine. I just dried it on an airer.

NeuropeptideS · 14/06/2019 22:41

I washed my laura Ashley dryclean only one and had to put it on while still damp, which I fear would be much harder when dry.
