Jegging
Tregging
Coatigan
Shacket

Etc. I don't know why they bother me so much but they make me wince. Anyone else?

DH drives me mad talking about his ‘Shumpers’ ( jumper with a shirt collar attached). I swear he’s made it up himself but he insists that it’s a real name. Nothing worse than walking round the Asda and he loudly announces that he’s off to see if they’ve got any new Shumpers in stock Angry

DearLady · 13/06/2019 22:11

Shacket = shirt/jacket.
Lightweight jacket. I wear mine all summer.
I don’t like when wimmin’s mags call jumpers “knits”.

Myusernameismud · 13/06/2019 22:12

DearLady team a chunky knit with a statement necklace and strong lip Wink

SpamChaudFroid · 13/06/2019 22:16

I like to think of trousering as a state of mind, with metaphorical pockets Grin.

Justin Bieber and WillIAm were fond of wearing the skouser a few years back.

SpamChaudFroid · 13/06/2019 22:17

Shumper!! Grin

MooBaaLaLaLa · 13/06/2019 22:19

A socktopus is the name for the little dryer thingies though isn't it? Especially the Ikea ones that have eyes.

angelikacpickles · 13/06/2019 22:20

Shumpers are awful in both name and existence.

MikeUniformMike · 13/06/2019 22:22

There's a word for a top and a skirt that when worn together look like a dress - dress-ord.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/06/2019 22:24

If you want skousers, watch Schitts Creek on Netflix and behold the wonder that is David Rose.

Myusernameismud · 13/06/2019 22:27

Oh no, Shumper is too much.

DS has form for creating portmanteau words. His latest was jam and marmalade mixed together, when there wasn't enough of either for a slice of toast. He called it Jamalade naturally.

Starryskiesinthesky · 13/06/2019 22:30

I've never heard of Portmanteau (and had to check twice how to spell it!).

Heard of all the words though!

DearLady · 13/06/2019 22:31

I like man-bag. Was there ever a word for David Beckham’s man-sarong? Feels like there should be...

Atalune · 13/06/2019 22:33

Twofer- that’s a blazer style jacket with a weird shirt sewn in.

MaggieFS · 13/06/2019 22:35

WHOAH - I thought a portmanteau was a suitcase or travel trunk? How does it become the name for fudged/melded words? (I'm so out of touch 🙁)

Atalune · 13/06/2019 22:38

My dh and I combine couple names and refer to them by that name privately.

What have mates called Claire and Jake- they are now Clake.

OwlBeThere · 13/06/2019 22:40

shacket just makes me think shit jacket.

i also HATE when people say 'a trouser' or 'a jegging' or 'a jean' as the poster above says. you sound like 'a dick'.

iklboo · 13/06/2019 22:41

I'm just going to put my shitie on (shirt style nightie).

DearLady · 13/06/2019 22:42

Owl, like someone shat a jacket 😂

DearLady · 13/06/2019 22:44

Shitie... I’m dying 😂

TiggyArm · 13/06/2019 22:46

I almost bought a cardigown once.

Myusernameismud · 13/06/2019 22:49

I'm wearing my pyjacksuit. It's essentially a tracksuit that I wear to bed.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 13/06/2019 22:50

I've got a shitie too!

Portmanteau itself is a portmanteau word...from the french I believe...Porter (to carry) and manteau (mantle). It then became a word to describe words made up in the same way. Or something like that.

Shumper is dreadful

I do like shitie and socktopus though so maybe I'm a portmanteau convert?

OwlBeThere · 13/06/2019 22:53

dearlady yeah...ooh i like your coat!
thanks, i shat it out yesterday!

FetchezLaVache · 13/06/2019 22:54

so maybe I'm a portmanteau convert?

A portmanvert, in other words?

DowntonCrabby · 13/06/2019 22:56

This whole thread is going to give me nightmares.

Shitie though- Grin
