Very large lady next to me at theatre

Went to theatre today and the lady next to me was so large I was left with no space at all. My legs were aching by the end as they were pushed together and I couldn't move at all. She kept repeatedly elbowing and jostling me without an apology.

AIBU to be irritated?

How unreasonable to expect a whole seat to yourself when someone else needs it more!

stucknoue · 14/06/2019 18:04

Happened to me on a transatlantic flight with a newborn, so uncomfortable but at least in my case the cabin crew let me use their rest area

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 18:05

So...a fat, short chap who lies about his weight? Which airline was this? I'm sure we'd all be glad to avoid them, and not just for the abysmal gate staff who divulge customer's personal details

I agree what apalling customer service, don't they have polygraph machines?

The defensiveness on this thread is both hilarious and profoundly saddening.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 18:18

Personally, I find the tall person in front the biggest problem. Why do the tallest people always have to sit at the front? I'd be happy squashed if only I could SEE the performance

From their position of tall privilege they consider no one else. Their stooges are too busy being sycophants to consider the viewing rights of anyone else.

If I go to the theatre and some tall fucker restricts the view that my grandma has paid for I'm going to cut off their head. It's my view and I'm going to defend it.

LadAlive · 14/06/2019 18:42

Those of normal weight have feelings too
Not in their legs, apparently, if a big, fat person sits next to them.
Was she sitting in your Lap OP?

LadAlive · 14/06/2019 18:54

I got a numb arse in 1998 in The Prince Edward Theatre watching 'Showboat'.
I was with my mother and son, my treat and she the fucker complained every time I tried to adjust my skinny arse on the hard-as-the-hobs-of-hell seats.
Sometimes Grandmothers are a pain in the arse in a Theatre too.
You should have asked your Grandmother to move OP then you and 'very large lady' would have had plenty of space.

Geekster1963 · 14/06/2019 19:03

YANBU I hate being squashed in. When my in laws visit they are both large and I end up being perched right on the edge of the sofa.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:09

Geek bounce up and down on them.

givemesteel · 14/06/2019 19:10

I would personally have more respect for companies if they addressed this ever increasing problem.

Theatres, cinemas, airlines etc should have oversized seating that can be booked at an extra cost and make it very clear that the expectation if you're morbidly obese that you will book one of these seats or you will not be admitted.

But they'd rather their customers suffered the awkwardness and discomfort of only having half a seat as someone is too big for theirs.

Being that size is ultimately personal choice. I appreciate that certain factors can affect weight, (genetics, certain medications, certain illnesses) but not to the extent that you're that overweight.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:11

Lad could you have sat on your mother's lap to protect the bones of your arse. Come back, we've got snax.

spaniorita · 14/06/2019 19:11

This is why I hate using public transport and never go to the cinema or theatre or anything like that. I'd hate to come on here and find a thread about how unpleasant it was to sit next to me. If it's any consolation (I guess it won't be) I do try to take up as little space as I possibly can, and am extremely conscious that my weight is potentially impacting on other people's comfort. I'm really embarrassed about it, and ashamed of myself and doing my best to sort it out.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:14

Morbid obesity is sometimes a response to CSE. It's so very visibly clear that the morbidly obese are suffering, not just having a bit of extra brie.

LadAlive · 14/06/2019 19:15

I think the bloke in the hoist should have shouted out
'HURRY UP! I CAN SMELL HOT PASTIES!'
then all of the skinny, Easyjet delayed travelers would have died in a frothy, ketonic outrage and there would have been no delay.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:15

span don't apologise to these strangers, I'm sure you have your reasons.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:17

Lad he should have shouted "catch meeeee" with outstretched arms. The short, fat liar.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:18

steel business class, I couldn't agree more.

ProjectGainsborough · 14/06/2019 19:24

Spaniorita please don’t apologise. We all have to rub along with each other if we live in society.

ProjectGainsborough · 14/06/2019 19:26

thigh Grin

LadAlive · 14/06/2019 19:27

I here the call Thigh will log back on.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:33

Lad come back, let's leave this shit 💩 heap behind us.

pineapplebryanbrown · 14/06/2019 19:36

Proj we don't have to live in society for much longer, I'm bussing in the sharks for our moat.

Teacakeandalatte · 14/06/2019 19:37

Haven't been on your thread in a while Thigh but I will sneak in if you are going to start an anti tall campaign.

IvanaPee · 14/06/2019 19:39

@spaniorita please don’t feel like you have to answer but I wondered what weight/size you are?

The reason I’m asking is because there are so, so many overweight people everywhere I go. Planes, theatres, buses etc.

And I’ve never seen anyone have a problem sitting next to them.

I’ve never seen someone have to be hoisted out of their seat, either. Hmm
