To ask what’s your REAL favourite..

Lightheaded really but reading a few other threads was thinking about what my true favourite things (vs what I would admit) are... for example - my true favourite book is Rachel’s Holiday but if asked would probably say one of my more “high brow” favourites... ditto my real death row meal would probably involve a burger and chips but would generally say something involving sea food.

So c’min - spill - what are your ‘guilty favourites

It's not my favourite but its higher up there than I'd care to admit: the film Ever After with Drew Barrymore! I usually love horror films and arthouse weirdo stuff... but every now and then I need to watch Ever After. It genuinely isnt my favourite film of all time but its certainly top ten if I'm honest lol!!
And my favourite drink of all time us Diet Coke. I'd drink it over anything. The most expensive wines etc... I'd not admit that because I know people would judge me Haha!

TwinklyMummaLuvsHerBubba89 · 14/06/2019 20:27

I have quite a "this is me, I'm not here to impress you" attitude, so generally I am quite happy to admit to all of my likes. Including being a huge U2 fan (I'll wait for all the "Bono is a knob" comments).

However. Recently I realised that I have a huge girl-crush on Miley Cyrus. I love her. It may be because my eldest was obsessed with Hannah Montana for many years and I've been brain-washed. But she has sass, she's a bit cool and I adore her voice.

If the subject arose in real life, I'd stay quiet on that one. I'm a 40 year old woman with various children and pets ffs. I need a serious word with myself 🙄🤣

minou123 · 14/06/2019 20:35

Beheuehyu Grin

TheDarkPassenger - I have a disgusting crush on Dick Van Dyke. But as an older man. i.e 'Diagnosis Murder' age, not 'Mary Poppins' young.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 14/06/2019 20:58

I claim my favourite film is "Inside I'm Dancing" and it IS a bloody brilliant film...but really I'd rather re-watch Grey's Anatomy, slugging back cheap orange and pineapple juice and eating toblerone.

LadyGodivasCat · 14/06/2019 21:00

I’m a closet chick-lit fan, esp Wendy Holden. Fave film is The English Patient. I did enjoy the cheese-fest of Magic Mike though.

Food would be beef wellington, roast lamb, chicken pakora and garlic naan, or a proper fish supper with loads of salt and vinegar, wrapped in newspaper with a can of the old-style Irn Bru. Yum.

Not a big telly fan but like Holby City and Casualty.

Love Boys of Summer too. Fave bands/musicians would be Queen, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams.

Also love soft toys and cute prints, though not Disney.

fotheringhay · 14/06/2019 21:03

(currently single) I claim I'm attracted to sensible grown-up men my own age who have experience of life and can offer real commitment.

My real favourite is a very sexy fwb who is less than half my age Blush

At least I have the decency to blush about it!

Beheuehyu · 14/06/2019 22:22

@fotheringhay good for you!

My absolute favourite book is "Madensky Square" by Eva Ibbotson.
I also love Marian Keyes (but not "Watermelon").
And Jilly Cooper - I bow to no-one on my extensive knowledge of her oeuvre due to massive amounts of re-reading.
However, since this seems a bit of a guilty secrets thread, I also love to criticise her style (awaits ceremonial being "hit across the room").
My last meal would be a chicken dinner consisting of:
Gravy
Roast chicken
Gravy
Mashed potatoes
Carrots and parsnips boiled together then chopped up together
Gravy
Peas
Oh... and gravy. Which must be slightly too salty and have a little too much gravy browning in it.
The way mother made.

You could press me to a Yorkshire pudding too.
You're a long time dead, after all.

Beheuehyu · 15/06/2019 10:25

@LaMarschallin you’ve reminded me that my mum used to eat Yorkshire puddings with jam in

OP posts:
LaMarschallin · 15/06/2019 11:11

On "The Kitchen Cabinet" on radio 4 a while back they had a debate over Yorkshires with gravy Vs with golden syrup and cream
Both sounded good to me (after all, Yorkshires are from the same "family" as pancakes; mind you, I'd have gone for maple syrup) but OH - from Yorkshire - has only just had his cat's bum mouth surgically de-puckered after hearing about the latter.

If we're really getting confessional...

I like Burt Baccarach and Barry Manilow.
But keep it on the down-low 🤐

MonnieMoo · 15/06/2019 12:12

I love love love The Ataris version of The Boys of summer!

A fav tv show that I would never admit to is Gilmore Girls, me and my 11 year old daughter watch it together and sing the theme song every, single time...if anyone ever finds out I’ll blame her 😂

My fav book is the His Dark Materials trilogy but everyone knows that, so not a guilty pleasure as such.

CaptainButtock · 15/06/2019 12:16

Most Haunted. Don’t judge me.

CaptainButtock · 15/06/2019 12:17

Oh and to eat....wotsits.

RickAstleyGaveMeUp · 15/06/2019 12:20

I love Rachel's Holiday but I think Sushi For Beginners and Last Chance Saloon might be my favourite books.

My favourite film at the moment is Captain Marvel but my all time favourite it Bring It On Blush

I'm not sure what my last meal would be. Maybe a katsu curry and loads of sides.

DaisyChains6 · 15/06/2019 12:26

My favourite film is 3 men and a little lady. Always makes me feel good when I watch it. I also had the soundtrack Blush

shackbleep2000 · 15/06/2019 12:28

a good curry (poppadoms a legal requirement also) Wink

iklboo · 15/06/2019 12:29

Favourite book - Good Omens
Favourite film - The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Death row meal - Holland's steak pudding, chips and gravy

Shockers · 15/06/2019 12:29

DD and I watch Hairspray with alarming regularity. I pretend it’s her favourite.

I like cheese and onion Ringos more than any posh crisps, and when they have them in Aldi, I buy them by the trolley full.

Beheuehyu · 15/06/2019 17:41

@DaisyChains6 didn’t that include Mary’s prayer (if that’s what it’s called)

OP posts:
Beheuehyu · 15/06/2019 17:44

Nope... waiting for a star to fall is the one I meant - live 80s cheesy music

LimeKiwi · 15/06/2019 17:50

Maybe it's just me reading through this thread as there seems to be a lot of you (yes, I know it's a light-hearted thread lol) saying what is your "real " favourite.
Why lie?! Be you! I regularly get stick for my love of all things cheese but I don't give a toss ! Grin
I'll happily say what my favourite really is.
Ie I'm not going to pretend I really like a bit of Chaucer or an old classic when I'm really off home to read some Sophie Kinsella! Grin
I'd just tell you lol.

Mammyloveswine · 15/06/2019 18:01

My favourite book is flowers in the attic, my favourite food is either salt and chilli chicken with salt and chilli chips, beef curry and egg fried rice or belly pork. Tbh if it was death row I'd have both, fuck it! And a Big Mac on the side.

My favourite film is the notebook...so much so I named my son from a character!

Beheuehyu · 15/06/2019 18:03

@lime - It’s not really quite like this in real life though... no one pretends to love what they don’t, and most people’s “favourites” change all the time. I’m actually very open and honest But - we must have all been in a situation where saying “oh my favourite reading material is xx” isn’t quite right for the situation so you swap it out for another “favourite”.

OP posts:
Beheuehyu · 15/06/2019 18:05

Being honest - with the death row meal is probably be on the chair before I’d actually made my mind up, if tonight’s debate over what take away me and dh actually “fancy” is anything to go on Grin

My favourite TV at the moment is My Five Wives - I am just fascinated with the whole polygamy set up. I tell people my favourite TV shows are historical documentaries (I do like them but would always choose My Five Wives over them).

My favourite film is Life of Brian. I don't bother to pretend it isn't.

My favourite books are regency fiction, especially Julia Quinn. I pretend it's historical biography. )Again I like them, but they are much harder work).

My favourite foods are dairylee cheese triangles, toast topper (no longer available), subway seafood (no longer available) and my fantastic chicken pie which is full of cream, mustard and mushrooms. I pretend it is seafood.
