To ask if you have poise and how quickly you can retrieve purse, specs, keys from your bag

You need to pay for something whilst out; can you reach into your bag and immediately retrieve your purse or do you need to root around, possibly having to remove a dozen objects before finding it.

Your mobile rings - how quickly can you find it?

As you approach your car/front door - do you have keys at the ready, or do you have to under go another undignified root around?

My bag is dark and full of terrors huge. It takes me ages to find anything. But I couldn't look poised under any circumstances anyway, I'm one of those people who was born to look frazzled and disorganised.

MrsMozartMkII · 12/06/2019 18:40

All now quite quickly for all of them.

I used to carry a tonne of Stuff! with me and not be able to easily get to anything. Finally drove me whappy.

DeadDoorpost · 12/06/2019 18:40

I usually get my purse out before reaching the tills, but can easily access it as it's a chunky one. Keys and phone are more of a root around.

WhiteLightTrainWreck · 12/06/2019 18:41

It depends entirely on what bag I am carrying.

Normal handbag, my purse is in a separate compartment to my phone, keys etc so quite easy to grab
Work bag, almost impossible without rooting because it's a shoulder canvas shopper style bag.

Mobile, easy, it's usually in my back pocket.

Keys, if I'm walking from house to car or visa versa, I've grabbed them off the side so they're in my hand, if I'm somewhere else, refer to the purse situation 😂

WiddlinDiddlin · 12/06/2019 18:44

No matter what size the bag, nor what size the item, I will be scrabbling, rootling and sometimes entirely unable to find the item I require.

If I do not need the item, it will of course fall out, randomly, at the most awkward moment.

JaceLancs · 12/06/2019 18:46

Phone quick as it’s in it’s own pocket
Keys and purse depends on bag - if it’s a big bag with dark lining undignified scrabble

I like you!

I so want to be poised but if I try to go minimal, I realise I need something (lipstick, pen, note pad) that I've left out.

And my pockets breed tissues and dog poo bags!

Totally what widdlindiddlin said. Quite often I will accidentally tip bag upside down and empty whole thing on to floor. Can never find keys, and then they turn out to be in the bag I have already looked in 8 times. Also cannot keep clothes and hair tidy. Am lost cause. Why do you ask?

Dragonglass · 12/06/2019 18:47

Depends on the bag. My work bag has a pocket for the phone and a clip for the keys so they are nice and easy to find. There are lots of other pockets too, so everything is organised so the purse is easy to find as well.
My non-work bag is a mess, full of receipts and god knows what else, so more rummaging would be required there.

Chouetted · 12/06/2019 18:47

Keys are in a pocket on the front of my bag - they're not really any use to anyone who doesn't know where I live, and not terribly useful to anyone who does as it takes a bit of knack to unlock my front door. Main problem would be the inconvinence of being locked out.

My mobile is in my hand - need to use it to track train times/check google maps.

Dont use my purse much (mobile being in my hand), but I know where it is to get to it in a hurry.

WindsweptEgret · 12/06/2019 18:48

All very quickly. My bag only contains keys, phone, and purse.

AyBeeCee10 · 12/06/2019 18:49

I'm a very organized person. Even one random tissue in my bag gets me cleaning. For all cosmetics (lipsticks, makeup, tissues etc) Its in a pouch, so all that little random stuff isnt floating about. Then usually my bags have small zippers so I keep specific things in each one. My wallet is cleaned out regularly as well. So not bulky and full of coins and receipts.

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2019 18:50

I wouldn't describe myself as poised, but I can put my hand on purse, mobile & keys instantly, mainly because I don't have much more than that in my bag.

Heratnumber7 · 12/06/2019 18:50

I don't usually carry a bag, but if I do, it's a small one

Babyduck2 · 12/06/2019 19:00

I just use the nappy bag that has a million pockets. I forever forget which pocket I've put things in so spend a good minute or two unzipping them all.
My mum brought me a new purse back from holiday, it's massive, looks ridiculous but it's super easy to find!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/06/2019 19:02

My purse is in a pocket and my mobile in another one, my keys are also in my pocket and they will already be out when i get to the car or house

If i carry a bag it only has those three items in it...with the exception of sunglasses if its sunny Grin

AnnieOH1 · 12/06/2019 19:11

I use a multi pocketed bag or multi pocket insert. Everything had a place so I can lay my hands on whatever in seconds. I tend to carry all sorts with me so without the different pockets I'd be a walking nightmare! Also always get house key ready before stepping out the car. :)

CaptainPovey · 12/06/2019 19:14

I think the main problem is the fact that the lining is nearly always dark in handbags

If it was light coloured it would be much easier to find stuff

caffeinebuzz · 12/06/2019 19:36

I used to have this problem, but a little tip I read probably on mumsnet is to preempt the situation and search through your bag ahead of time. So now, before I approach the till I move my purse so it's the first thing I'll grab, when I'm still around the corner I'll start searching for my keys, etc. I still have to root around, but at least am not doing it in a pressured situation while holding up a queue of people.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 12/06/2019 19:40

Seconds. Mind you, I'm not one of these women who have different bags for different outfits. It's one bag, all year round for years til the straps snap off or the zipper breaks. I know that bag like the back of my hand.

I do not look poised though. Or organised. Or even properly dressed. Most days I look like I fell out of the front door with my hair wrapped round the door handle.

wheresmymojo · 12/06/2019 19:41

I have all the poise that technology can bring.

I don't have a handbag and pay for everything with Apple Pay

CitadelsofScience · 12/06/2019 19:41

I have specific pockets in my bag for phone, keys etc and my purse is big enough to grab instantly and whip out. Hell I even have a pocket for lip balm/stick Grin

BogglesGoggles · 12/06/2019 19:44

I can’t tollerate a cluttered bag.

Stillinbedat10am · 12/06/2019 19:45

I have no poise but since I discovered Mia Tui bags I can put my hand on anything in a matter of seconds. They have loads of pockets and light, bright coloured linings. I carry loads of crap around daily and these bags have genuinely revolutionised my life.

Katinski · 12/06/2019 19:47

CaptainPovey, it's because of this that my purse and wallet are bright red Halo
