To think we are fucked if Boris becomes PM?

Imagine having that buffoon as prime minister. In fact we're going to be fucked regardless of who wins the leadership.

Will there be a GE?

ShitAtScarbble · 12/06/2019 18:34

We're fucked at every turn. The only variable is exactly how fucked we are and how fast. But essentially - we are fucked.
The thought of that dick-waving idiot in charge of this country makes me so worried!

alfie22 · 12/06/2019 18:36

@ShitAtScarbble or Jacob Rees mogg..

rodentforce · 12/06/2019 18:38

YADNBU. The entire Tory party is utterly vile. The only silver lining to the looming Brexit cloud is the hope that it might destroy the party.

RomanyQueen · 12/06/2019 18:39

We're fucked whatever, OP.
I don't like him or the conservatives, but the world is a sham these days.
Not sure what any of us can do, except for living with what we have, rather than moaning it's not working.
I can see so many belts being tightened by those who still have money, and those that don't panicking about the future.
It's not a good time, but I suppose at least we aren't living with continual bombing, and we aren't quite at rationing levels yet.
Food banks seem to be increasing though, so maybe comparable to rationing.

IsabellaLinton · 12/06/2019 18:40

I’ve given up caring. Why worry about it - there’s nothing I can do to change it. The world will still turn.

FrauleinF · 12/06/2019 18:41

I am inclined to agree on the dearth of decent candidates. Rory Stewart looks like an intelligent, pragmatic choice compared to the rest - though, him included, all of the candidates are Brexiteers, so none match my own personal standpoint. None of them will call a second referendum. So we're supposed to get some magic new deal from the EU (which I thought had already been ruled out) or crash out.

Don't think they will dare hold another general election after what happened in 2017. It would probably actually make things even worse, as it would be entirely possible (due to weak opposition from Labour and a fractured left) to end up with a Conservative/Brexit Party coalition. Nigel Farage as deputy PM, anyone - a terrifying prospect indeed...

Singlenotsingle · 12/06/2019 18:42

I hate his idea of reducing taxes for the rich, and hope this isn't a sign of things to come. And no, there won't be a GE until 2022!

AlexaShutUp · 12/06/2019 18:43

My only hope is that Boris has no real principles, he only cares about himself. So I am clinging on to the hope that someone might just be able to persuade him that screwing over the country will be damaging to the Boris brand. Otherwise, yes, we're totally fucked.

You know you're in a truly desperate situation when Michael Gove starts to look like one of the least worst options.Hmm

nauseous5000 · 12/06/2019 18:43

I agree that we're fucked whatever at this point, but Boris is a dangerous man who has passed himself off as harmless for far too long. His speech today was insane- the awesome foursome of the UK, when Scotland will be out as soon as they can post Brexit, Wales are becoming more remain by the day and god only knows what will happen with Northern Ireland. Awesome foursome indeed! And then other issues like the NHS... Boris promises the moon on a stick while massively limiting tax for high earners. Who will pay for world class education and a properly funded NHS and why do his supporters believe it Sad

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 12/06/2019 18:44

Rory Stewart won't get in precisely because a lot of his proposed ideas and policies aren't Tory. I'm not actually sure why he's in the Conservative Party really.

AlexaShutUp · 12/06/2019 18:46

Exactly - Rory Stewart is a decent enough bloke but he has no hope whatsoever of getting elected by the Tories.

ForalltheSaints · 12/06/2019 18:47

Jeremy Hunt or Michael Gove are not people you would invite to a dinner party, but at least have some grasp of detail. You would disagree on their policies not their ability.

ShitAtScarbble · 12/06/2019 18:48

I thought Rory Stewart quite impressive at his launch and it is for precisely this reason that I know he'll get nowhere! As you say BigSexy - not a true-blue Tory. Definitely a potential future leader though - maybe LibDem?

Pa1oma · 12/06/2019 18:56

Why isn’t there a single Remain candidate? How can this be happening?

That hideous man looks like he’s going to get his moment. Looks like his strategy will pay off after all. He stepped sideways to let TM deal with what he knew better than anyone would be a shit show. Now he can appear to step in as the hero of the who saved Brexit.

Actually he should be in prison for falsifying information for propaganda in the referendum.

Everyone I know round here is a Tory voter, especially since the Lib Dems faded away. But it seems everyone despises all the candidates because they’re all Brexiteers!

The only hope would be a GE because I think the Lib Dem’s may have it?

Can’t bear JC. He’s another career politician. Personally, he would cripple us with his mansion tax and VAT on school fees. But if it was a choice between Boris and Brexit, or JC and a second ref, I wouid have to vote JC. How much damage can he do in 4 years, but Brexit is permanent. This is how bad things are.

alfie22 · 12/06/2019 18:57

If there was a GE I would definitely vote Lib Dem.

Was a labour supporter but really not a fan of JC.

OP posts:
AnthonyCrowley · 12/06/2019 19:02

I was just about to say that Rory Stewart would make a fab Lib Dem leader.....shame he isn't Lib Dem!

Kazzyhoward · 12/06/2019 19:06

Why isn’t there a single Remain candidate? How can this be happening?

How can there be? The Tories stood on a Brexit platform at the last GE, so they have to be pro-Brexit - the only question is what kind of Brexit - some candidates what a soft Brexit, others a hard Brexit - that's the choice - soft or hard, the Brexit/Remain question has long passed.

HollowTalk · 12/06/2019 19:10

The only variable is exactly how fucked we are and how fast

That sounds like a line from The Thick of It!

Caucasianchalkcircles · 12/06/2019 19:12

Rory Stewart- look at his voting record and you’ll see he’s Tory through and through !

Hazlenutpie · 12/06/2019 19:13

I like Boris. I'm of the opinion that because we're fucked we need someone like Boris to get us out of the mess.

He reminds me of Winston Churchill, who was excellent when we really needed that type of personality.

I hate Gove with a passion.

Poloshot · 12/06/2019 19:14

I'll be voting for him if he's one of the candidates still in play when the party members vote

babysharkah · 12/06/2019 19:15

We're fucked. End of. Voters apathy in action.

theduchessstill · 12/06/2019 19:17

Not sure where all the love for Rory Stuart is coming from. He voted against the move to try and block a no deal Brexit today.

Judge him by what he does not what he says/ how lovely his speaking voice is.

We are so fucked...

HazelBite · 12/06/2019 19:19

Boris is actually very lazy, think water cannons when he was London Mayor, hadn't any notion that the vehicles didn't comply with the emission regulations in London, don't get me started on his vanity projects the garden bridge, and the badly designed buses that he never tried before he bought!
He does things and undertakes projects because it makes him look good and is too arrogant to consult his civil servants/staff for advice and information.

InspirationUnavailable · 12/06/2019 19:20

www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/24964/rory_stewart/penrith_and_the_border/votes

As pp mentioned, Rory Stewart’s voting record really does say it all.

Beth Rigby being booed today at Johnson’s campaign launch really is a sign of where things have got to. Chilling.
