To wish people would RTFT!!!!!!!

I belong to other forums, but none are as bad as MN for posters not reading the thread. I know that some threads can be very long, but at least scroll through quickly and check for updates from the OP. It's easy enough when they're all colour highlighted.

And what's with people who come on and say "I haven't read the thread but...(insert stupid question that's been answered ten times, or a point that's been made 100 times)"

Do people actually want to look stupid? I don't get it.

Oh, and when the OP has already realised they're being unreasonable (five pages back) and accepted every point graciously, you look a complete bitch when you rant at them for being a terrible person.

You should cancel the cheque.

icantthinkofanothernewname · 11/06/2019 19:36

Cancel the cheque

Cryalot2 · 11/06/2019 19:40

Oops I think I may have been unintentionally guilty .
My deepest apologies for any offence.

saraclara · 11/06/2019 19:40

Heh. I'm a relative newbie, so not here for whatever thread you're referring to. But it doesn't take a lot of imagination to visualise it!

OP posts:
CannonCaboodle · 11/06/2019 19:42

I've not RTFT but YABU.

icantthinkofanothernewname · 11/06/2019 19:42

I'm guilty of this.
But if I see a thread I can help with and don't have time to read it all, I'll leave a comment. I start by saying that I haven't rtft, so that people know to discard my point if it's already been made 1000 times

user1471517900 · 11/06/2019 19:42

Are you a relative newbie OP?

:-p

MogMogMog · 11/06/2019 19:44

Cancel the cheque!! Grin

theworldistoosmall · 11/06/2019 19:45

I don't understand it either. Cancel the cheque is a classic example of not rtft. Not like you have to read hundreds of posts.

barryfromclareisfit · 11/06/2019 19:46

Thread police, eh?
This is entertainment, not school.
Accept that people will not obey you, and move on.

lboogy · 11/06/2019 19:49

But on the app it takes ages to find the OPs update.

I wish the app had a function to allow you to click on all replies from the OP like you can on community BabyCentre's app. Which has it's on technical faults, but that's another conversation

In long threads I maybe read 20 replies before giving up or I have to go to the end of the thread and read backwards

LaMarschallin · 11/06/2019 19:49

Oh god , yes!

And I do wish when people reply to @someotherposter they'd also include the quote that they're replying to; being of a curious nosey nature, I've wasted ages scrolling back trying - and failing - to find what's going on.

ParanoidGynodroid · 11/06/2019 19:49

I'm inclined to think you have a DH problem, rather than a MIL problem, OP.

saraclara · 11/06/2019 19:50

This is entertainment, not school.

It's neither. People post things that are making them emotional, and most genuinely want advice. When I joined I was impressed at the number of OPs who read the answers, realised they were wrong and accepted it gracefully.
It seems really unfair when people don't bother to read that and come on and put the boot in.

OP posts:
Pinkmouse6 · 11/06/2019 19:52

I use mobile browser and the OP’s posts aren’t highlighted.

BettyUnderswoob · 11/06/2019 19:55

Sometimes to RTFT means to plough through pages and pages of people saying the same bloody things.
Who's got time for that?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/06/2019 19:59

barry as the OP says, MN isn't for people's entertainment. Yes, some threads are entertaining, but that's not the same thing. It's a website people use for support and advice, primarily on parenting issues, but also in relation to a wide range of other topics. I appreciate I may sound like I'm patronising you, but you do seem genuinely unclear as to what MN is, and I'd hate to think of you posting comments about entertainment on the Bereavement, Relationships or SEN boards.

CrazyToast · 11/06/2019 20:05

I may know which thread has made you say this, and yes it was a bit harsh, after the OP admitted she was BU and thanked everyone, but people kept having a go long after. But realistically people won't read all comments or even the post properly, that's just the way it is.

theworldistoosmall · 11/06/2019 20:20

You don't have to scroll through pages and pages. You can change the settings to see everything on one page.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 11/06/2019 20:25

@Pinkmouse6 I use mobile browser, if you go onto the desktop site (only once and you can do it on your phone) and change your settings, then go back to using the mobile version your settings carry over. I can't tell you what a revelation it is, you just read the OPs posts in a long thread and your own are highlighted in a different colour. Makes it all much easier to follow

saraclara · 11/06/2019 20:29

Yep. I'm mostly on my phone too, and I get the highlighted OP's/my posts.

OP posts:
feathermucker · 11/06/2019 20:31

Nanny0gg · 11/06/2019 20:35

@Pinkmouse6

They can be. Mine are because they are on here. Check your settings

GreenTulips · 11/06/2019 20:36

Worse is OP saying XH admitted to killing his mother on the ££££ rug .... WWYD?

Then pages of people giving stains emoval advice - people just don’t ‘get’ the issues!!!

Ahhhhhh

Nanny0gg · 11/06/2019 20:38

Sometimes to RTFT means to plough through pages and pages of people saying the same bloody things.Who's got time for that?

Who's got time to plough through pages of the same comments because people haven't noticed that the point has been made already (countless times)

At least have the courtesy to read the OP's posts before weighing in.
