To tell this woman?

Today it is cold and wet here I've got a big coat on and am still cold and wet through.
This morning on the school run I saw this woman who I see everyday. She has two boys one aged 2 and the other is 1 years old. This morning she had the baby at the front of the double buggy with just pjs on. No coat no shoes or socks no rain cover literally just pjs and no vest underneath. The baby's clothes were stuck to him where they were so wet. He clearly wasn't well either with green not running down his face. I couldn't believe my eyes, where is people's common sense? She does this all the time. On the coldest days in winter that baby didn't have a blanket or train cover over him. What makes it worse is she is fast at getting about. Let's the two year old walk instead of putting him the buggy and getting places faster. It's bugged me all day and I wish I had said something.

Would you of said anything?

I wouldn’t approach the woman in case she was violent but I would inform social services.

Bluntness100 · 12/06/2019 15:51

And in my experience peoples whose immediate reaction is "mind your own business" in this sort of scenario have something to hide.

spanishwife · 12/06/2019 23:33

Are you kidding @Peachsummer? It's a mum at the school gates, just because she's slipping in some areas doesn't make her a knife wielding maniac

SleepingStandingUp · 12/06/2019 23:51

Totally agree @StreetwiseHercules @Nannyred, whenever I see a child being abused I think, well its their kid, they'll can abuse it if they want. It's like their property isn't it. And if it dies, meh it's only a vulnerable child who can't protect itself why would and one else try to protect itself. By 1 and 2 surely they can purchase their own wet weather gear and get themselves dressed!!

@lucymegan good on you for reporting. Please make sure you mention it to school every time you see something of concern. The world needs more people like you

Forgottenwhatsleepis · 13/06/2019 07:46

wet never killed anyone -
BUT pneumonia in a one year old, caused by being soaked (not just "wet") can and does!
OP you did the right thing, and if the mum is struggling, hopefully she'll get the right help for her and the kids

MsTSwift · 13/06/2019 07:58

The “mind your own business “ crowd make my blood run cold frankly. If you read the litany of cock ups that lead to the death of children from abuse or neglect it is often clear to others bad stuff going on. You have a duty to report. Evil flourishes when good men do nothing and all that.

SleepingStandingUp · 13/06/2019 10:13

wet never killed anyone!
Even if this were true, do we only care about neglect that leads to death? About illnesses that are fatal? Is it OK to beat your kids as long as they won't die from it or starve them for periods as long as they'll ultimately survive??
