To think it's disgusting to not wash your feet/legs?

I keep seeing posts on twitter about the amount of people who apparently don't wash their legs or feet in the shower (there was a picture that's been circulating of all the parts of your body colour coded into what should be scrubbed thouroughly, what should be less intensely washed etc). AIBU to think not washing your legs and feet in the shower is just really unpleasant? It takes ten seconds maximum, why would anyone deliberately not do it?

Tbh the only bits I really 'wash' as such are my head, pits and bits. My torso, back, arms and legs kind of get residual soap and water and i'm paddling about in the water in the shower tray anyway so my feet are cleaned that way. I only really scrub my feet if I know they're actually dirty.

Buddytheelf85 · 10/06/2019 18:45

If failing deliberately and specifically to wash your feet and legs is ‘disgusting’ (as opposed to just letting them get rinsed with soap and water in the shower) I’d love to know what words you find to use for skidmarks or poonamis or when the bin leaks.

Iamgoingtobehonestwithyou · 10/06/2019 18:49

I would have guessed that washing your legs and feet could be problematic if you had a mobility issue or obesity problem so it was surprising to find out that it's quite the norm for the population in general.

Makes sense with the water trickling down etc.

In bigger news, my friend was surprised to find out that some people stand up to wipe their backside after a trip to the toilet. He had never considered this to be the way to do it. His method always involved being sat down.

You live and learn.

I'm diabetic so have to practice proper footcare by washing, drying and checking feet every day.

I don't bother to properly scrub my legs though, I also have pretty much hairless legs, even when I was younger I would just need to shave a little bit of fluff off a couple of times a year.

Maybe I need some new FB friends since I've never seen a conversation on personal hygiene on there.

GrandmasNightie · 10/06/2019 18:49

YANBU. There should be a sensor type thing on all doors and if you try to leave the leave the house without scrubbing every inch of your body on the hour and every hour then shutters should come down down confining you to your home until you have rubbed raw the skin behind your knees.
Seriously, how dirty do people get?

Gingerkittykat · 10/06/2019 18:51

@mumofwantwomany

WTF????? People stand up to wipe????

Ringdonna · 10/06/2019 18:53

Can’t wash my feet as have neuropathy following chemo and can’t put any pressure on but shower gel and water flowing on them seem to do the trick.

VladmirsPoutine · 10/06/2019 18:53

Of course you need to somewhat stand to wipe. Otherwise how do you get the right angle when still seated Confused

dementedpixie · 10/06/2019 18:56

Yes I stand to wipe too. You stick your bum out so maybe more like a raised squat position

MysweetAudrina · 10/06/2019 19:01

How do you wash your filthy back op? I'd love to know how all these people get so filthy. I always think that people who constantly need to clean themselves must feel dirty inside or something. Most people I know change their knickers, shower and keep themselves clean. That is normal. I don't think people who don't wash as regularly as I do are disgusting. I tend to save that term for things like the smell of my 10 year olds farts

coconuttelegraph · 10/06/2019 19:04

You'll combust with disgust surely if this is where you set your bar.

Honestly, there are a million things that might fit the definition of disgusting not soaping your legs is most definitely not one of them.

Progress2019 · 10/06/2019 19:14

Is shaving your legs every day actually a thing? Mine are lucky if they see a razor every month. Im very short sighted so wouldn’t notice if I had legs like a labrador, but i’ve asked my (quite brutally honest) daughter, and she said they’re ‘weirdly bald’. Is everyone else shaving daily?

Brigante9 · 10/06/2019 19:14

I wash in between toes and scrub the crevasse where the bit of my leg was ripped off, but I have to, cos it’s like a proper v-shape plus it’s all numb so I can properly scrub it. 🤣

mumofwantwomany · 10/06/2019 19:19

I wash my back by reaching round and scrubbing it with soap?

Okay, 'disgusting' was perhaps a strong word to use. 'mildly unpleasant', is that better?

OP posts:
TowerRavenSeven · 10/06/2019 19:21

I always wash my whole body in the shower and scrub my feet and wash in between the toes. I thought everyone did! Why wouldn’t you?!

Shootingstar1115 · 10/06/2019 19:23

🙈🙈 I shower daily (sometimes twice) and don’t necessarily scrub my legs every day, I just let the water do it’s job. I would scrub them if they were muddy or grimy for whatever reason. Feet are different, it’s flip flop season and often they get muddy!

I’ve never smelt. Because I shower so often I feel like I’m freshening up rather than cleaning myself. If I showered less often I’d probably scrub more.

thecatneuterer · 10/06/2019 19:24

do none of these people ever get sweaty behind the knees?? I had no idea that sweaty knees were even possible.

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2019 19:34

Good point above about forearms. I’m not sure I have ever consciously washed my forearms other than when I’ve been gardening/working/wearing sun cream etc. I also think after hot shower with sudsy water and then rinsing and drying with
Clean towel surely my legs / forearms are clean? How dirty is everyone here getting ! (How dirty am I I am now thinking)

titzillaa · 10/06/2019 19:34

maybe I just sweat a lot!

Breathlessness · 10/06/2019 19:37

There are lots of people who don’t wash their hands after going to the loo. I have no energy left to care about the state of their shins.

Bringonspring · 10/06/2019 19:38

People stand to wipe....

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2019 19:40

Oh ! Ah.

saraclara · 10/06/2019 19:42

do none of these people ver get sweaty behind the knees??

Well I don't. And I don't assume anyone else does, either. Is this an overweight issue?

mumofwantwomany · 10/06/2019 19:44

maybe I just sweat a lot!

I do too. In fact, I get sweaty knees quite often, same with thighs, and I'm not overweight. I'm by no means skinny though!

Ugh these threads drive me crazy! I tend to alternate between showers and baths. I never give my feet any particular attention and I’m 50 and never had any kind of fungal infection or any other kind of nasty! People are wayyyy too obsessed with all this stuff nowadays.
