To ask when your DC started to sleep through

Probably been done a million times on here, but when did it happen for you?

As a baby I slept through from 6 weeks. My son is the same age now and I feel that we are so far away from that happening.

If he did start "sleeping through" at this age I'd probably panic and wake him up anyway! 🙈

All around 2 yrs and even then not consistently.

Fun times x

Ispywithmycynicaleye · 10/06/2019 01:33

DS was 4 when he first started sleeping straight through. I totally panicked when I woke for the first time after putting him to bed and saw daylight!

Both my DD's are good sleepers. DD1 all night from a few weeks, DD2 all night from 6 months.

Currently 34 weeks pregnant with another DD Grin

moleeye · 10/06/2019 02:20

My DD started sleeping through when we moved her to her own room at 6 months.

DS is 3 months old and currently only wakes twice a night for a feed, breast fed baby. I feed him a lot in the day so he's full at night! 😂

moleeye · 10/06/2019 02:21

Meant to add my DD is 4 now and sleeps 7-7 without a peep. Occasionally she wakes up and takes herself to the toilet but that's it

alfie22 · 10/06/2019 02:23

My DS hasn't fed since half 10 and is still sleeping! Should I wake him??

I'd probably poke to check he responded but they'd about it (I'm still checking DD is alive 6 months on Blush)

4hrs seems like ages but I think that pretty normal.

alfie22 · 10/06/2019 02:29

@olderthanyouthink I poked him and he jumped but didn't wake! I don't know if I should wake him or not

This is the longest hes ever slept at night

@alfie22 sorry I went back to sleep!

I wouldn't. He's probably entering the 6 week growth spurt. 4 hours between feeds during the night will start to be the norm. He'll cluster feed during the day more though....

You'll start to come out of that dreadful first six weeks fog now and will feel more human at night as they go for longer stretches. Mine has a last feed about 7.30-8 and then doesn't wake up until about 2am.

Then he's up at 4.30 for a quick top up then up at 8 to start the day.

I still check on my 4 year old every night as well. And I often check on the baby when he's sleeping in the buggy etc. It does get easier but it doesn't fully go away.

The first night they sleep through is a real shock as well. You'll be on tenterhooks! Xx

moleeye · 10/06/2019 04:47

Meant to add that my little boy had colic so up until he was 10 weeks I basically sat up and held him all night as he couldn't sleep lying down.

I don't think I've ever been so tired in all my life! Thank god he's over that now. I honestly thought it would never get better!!!!

OpportunityKnocks · 10/06/2019 04:51

I hope you didn't wake him op?

With any luck, you'll get more stretches of sleep like that.

Hmmmbop · 10/06/2019 05:11

As long as he's gaining weight don't wake him.

DS had a spare of sleeping through around 20months but that stopped. Started again around 2.5 but again didn't last long. He's now 3.5 and tonight is the first time he's slept through in around 2 months.

DD slept through at 10 weeks. She's done it once or twice a week or more since then and is now 4.5 months. She's currently ill and sleep has gone out of the window.

Weenurse · 10/06/2019 05:15

DD1 slept 12-5 am from 6 weeks. DD2 at 20 months, in her baby book, I wrote we live in hope. More like 2.5 years for her.

alfie22 · 10/06/2019 05:23

Just woke up with him now!

OP posts:
GPatz · 10/06/2019 05:23

My DD at eight weeks sleeps far better at night than her two year old brother. She's managed five hours between feeds and then a quick feed and another four or gives hours. I'm not waking her as she is putting on weight well.

In contrast, DS woke up at around 22:00 and 00:15 and when he woke again at 02:45, DH took him into the spare room bed. He then woke up fresh as a daisy at 04:45 (DS, not DH). I should point out that DS has had some problems though (he has had a sleep study, his adoniods removed at 22 months and is currently awaiting referral to a paediatric respiratory specialist).

Therefore, as yet, no one has slept through the bloody night.

bellajay · 10/06/2019 05:26

At 8 months, we did some sleep training as he really needed the help learning how to get to sleep. He does now wake up very early though!

BabySoupDragonsMummy · 10/06/2019 05:57

My daughter will be four soon and more often than not she wakes every night. She goes through spells, she did sleep through from 8 months for a period of about a year and a half then she got ill and it all went a bit skew wiff!

soberfabulous · 10/06/2019 06:06

14 months. my non sleeping baby is an only child because of this.

PsuedoSatisfactionBaby · 10/06/2019 06:11

DC1 was 8 weeks. DC2 nearly 2. So glad I had them in that order!

MiniMaxi · 10/06/2019 06:13

19 months!

mnahmnah · 10/06/2019 06:29

DS1 was 4 months, DS2 was 7 months. I know plenty of babies do it earlier than that too. Every baby is different.

Mokepon · 10/06/2019 06:42

6.5 years.

Not bitter at all. Grin.
The second child is doing much better though. Praise be.
I don't think I could take it again 🤣

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 10/06/2019 06:44

About 12-13 weeks BF. He has a really long pre bed feed and started off sleeping from about 8:30-5, which fairly quickly stretched out and he now sleeps from about 7/7:30pm-6-7am, he woke at half six today. But then just wants to BF and sometimes nods off again while feeding, like now. I side feed in the mornings so it's not too bad for me.

Amanduh · 10/06/2019 06:48

6 weeks. I know I’m lucky so I’m scared of what the next one will be like 😂

feelingverylazytoday · 10/06/2019 06:50

All of mine dropped their middle of the night feed by 5 weeks and their late night feed by about 3 months, so if you call 9pm ish to 6am ish sleeping through it was by then.
