To ask when your DC started to sleep through

Probably been done a million times on here, but when did it happen for you?

As a baby I slept through from 6 weeks. My son is the same age now and I feel that we are so far away from that happening.

If he did start "sleeping through" at this age I'd probably panic and wake him up anyway! 🙈

2.5 years but he barely naps unless it's a quick 10 mins nap in the car somewhere and he is very alert to everything and just doesn't tire out.

It's hard work but you'll get there

Have no advice because worked when it came to getting him to sleep through he just started to do it himself

SallyWD · 10/06/2019 07:29

Both my DC started sleeping through from about 7 - 7 at 12 months.

Greywalls12 · 10/06/2019 07:30

DS is 9 weeks and still feeds 2 hourly overnight! Although he slept 8-12 last night which was amazing, and then fed every hour until 5 and has only just gone back to sleep. Joys

bugeyedbarber · 10/06/2019 07:32

22 months. This was after waking at least twice in the night on average previously.

That lasted for a bit and was heaven.

She's 26 months and is up and down again.

FrenchyQ · 10/06/2019 07:38

Dd slept through from 2 months, Ds 14 months

Violet25 · 10/06/2019 07:43

About eight months for 6pm to 6-7am. However somewhere between 8-12 weeks she started sleeping in 4-5 hour bursts at night. I found that much more manageable. I almost felt human. From maybe 5 months she would occasionally sleep through but usually wake for a bottle between 2and three then back to sleep until 8am.

Smellybluecheese · 10/06/2019 07:52

About 2.5 though that was not reliable. Now 4.5 and up about half the nights. 6 weeks is nothing Smile

TwoBlueFish · 10/06/2019 07:54

DS1 about 6 weeks, DS2 about 2.5 years old.

BertieBotts · 10/06/2019 08:01

The first year is so up and down for sleep. There's no linear progression so I find it much easier to arrange my life/our sleeping situation around making the night wakings easy. I don't struggle with sleep at all (though do have the occasional tired day) even though this sounds horrible in theory :o

DS1 slept through (bedtime until morning) at about 2.5 years.

DS2 is 9 months and still waking every 1-2 hours when not next to me, can do 3-5 hours when next to me, but I don't think he has ever slept more than 5 hours in one chunk.

NickMarlow · 10/06/2019 08:02

Dc1 6 months. But it all fell apart at 18 months and she didn't sleep reliably after that until she was 4.

Dc2 is 11 months. We are just starting to get very occasional nights with only 1 night feed, instead of 2 or 3.

YouJustDoYou · 10/06/2019 08:05

Child 1 - 5 years
Child 2 - 2 years
Child 3 - 2 years

JustHereWithPopcorn · 10/06/2019 08:05

From 6 weeks for me Grin 11 hours every single night I'm very happy and it definitely helped my PND get better

Mandraki · 10/06/2019 12:33

Nearly 2 here and still yet to consistently sleep through. On and off she will but never for long. Sleep is for the weak!

HereForAdvice2019 · 10/06/2019 12:45

Both ds and dd 6/7 weeks.. My dd was very lazy. Went 10-7am.bottle.nappy then back to sleep till 10am.

The next one I bet I won't be so lucky. Lol

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 10/06/2019 12:57

Erm my 4 year old at around 2.

My now 2.5 year old not even close

DelurkingAJ · 10/06/2019 13:00

DS1 reliably (ie more than every other night) about 4. DS2 (3) not yet. I don’t breed sleepers although I’m sure some folk would have been tougher about it than we are.

soulrunner · 10/06/2019 13:02

DC1: about 4 months but we "dream fed" him before going to bed till he was close to 1 which meant he'd then go to 6am.

DC2: nightmare until she was 1 (waking up minimum every 2 hours). Then I ran a red light out of sheer exhaustion - other car stopped just in time. Was the shock I needed to sleep train her. As soon as I stopped feeding her at night she got way better.

Goodenough06 · 10/06/2019 13:10

Wow!!! Truly amazed at all the babies sleeping through at only weeks old. Lucky, lucky mamas!
My son didn't sleep through consistently until 18 months. Still constantly on edge waiting for the next regression...baby no. 2 due in six weeks so keeping my fingers crossed for one of these miracle sleepers.
My mum still talks about my big sister (Now 35) who slept through from day one of being home from the hospital. Hmm

my2bundles · 10/06/2019 13:21

My first baby was 2 months. I was one of those smug mums 😕untill my second came along and gave me a reality slap as he didn't sleep thro untill he was 9 years old.

Nursejackie1 · 10/06/2019 13:23

First child was 3 years old and my second is now 2 and a half and wakes between 3-6 times a night. Hence why no more kids are on the cards. 6 years of sleep deprivation is enough for me thanks!

Poetryinaction · 10/06/2019 13:33

Dc1 - 11months
Dc2 - 3 years
Dc3 - 14 months

MaMisled · 10/06/2019 13:41

Mine all started sleeping 12 hrs straight in their 7th week of life. Growing at such a rate is very tiring! I was so smug until they reached around 18mths then they didnt sleep for more than 4 hrs for the next 3 yrs!

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/06/2019 13:44

5.5.

2 months before number 2 arrived.

To be fair they both slept/sleep all night but wake for cuddle / bm so it's what your definition of 'sleep through is.' Scientifically it's 5 hours without stirring apparently. I heard tales of others being fully awake partying in the night, even if coslept, which mine haven't really done. So far...

The elder one moved to own room before 2 but needed comfort in the night so physically woke up and came into me till 5.5 when he was able to stay in his own room all night. Very occasionally wakes to come in now.

Youngest sleeps next to me.

Pinkvoid · 10/06/2019 13:44

I slept through from six weeks old too but my DM put rusks in my bedtime bottle (she said this was the advice back then Shock) so suspect that may have something to do with it...

I can’t really remember with my eldest three but I’d say they were between 3 and 5 months old. DC4 is 7 months old and has slept through since he was 2 months. He loves sleep though and gets annoyed if I dare wake him before 10 am Grin.

2eternities · 10/06/2019 14:00

If you mean as in sleeping all night without waking at all well mine are 3+5 and still wake up once or twice now teach most nights though there's more sleeping through all the night now than there was. Depends on the child imo DS 3 was a fantastic sleeper from birth DD 5 not so much and still hard work to get to sleep some nights. DS is out like a light every night, it's amazing makes such a difference having a good sleeper
