To feel so bloody nervous to go out to event on my own ?

There's a village fair starting in twenty minutes literally a two minute walk from my front door.

It's sunny, I've nothing pressing to do, they may sell plants Smilebut am shaking at thought of walking out the door on my own.

Recently separated from an abuser. But thought I was "getting there" then this !!

Is it worth putting myself through feeling this sick ?

I've been where you are re anxiety and not being able to leave the house. Baby steps - and please keep posting. If you couldn't go, you still have friends here Flowers

TheGardenisMine · 09/06/2019 12:14

I'm back!

Thank you all so so much.

I stood by the door , key in hand and sunglasses on. I felt really sickly. But kept thinking I'm only going to get a paper.. I didn't realise until I got out the door that the stalls etc were all before the shop Confused luckily I saw a plant stall, the ladies were lovely and I ended up purchasing so many ( in my defence they were v cheap) that I had to bring them back home and had a wobble about going back out. I solved that one by leaving plants on doorstep because if I'd used the key I would not of gone back out.
The atmosphere was lovely, I got a great Alan Bennett book I haven't read and broke a habit of a life time and purchased a cake without inspecting their kitchen Wink

I then started to feel really conspicuous and thought people would know me from on here .. so walked quickly home.

But am a little pleased with myself.. so a huge thank you again to you all . This is why I love MN , you've seen me through some pretty rough things. CakeBrewnow x

Well done. Smile

VodselForDinner · 09/06/2019 12:20

Well done! I’m a major introvert and hate going new places with crowds. Though I have to do it a lot for work.

Sunglasses and headphones are the way to go.

Butchyrestingface · 09/06/2019 12:22

Well done. 🍷

TheGardenisMine · 09/06/2019 12:22

Definitely sunglasses helped. Could not do the earphones as I don't have and I'm so not cool 😎

OP so happy for you. I am going through a similar thing at the moment. So I know the feelings. Well done Thanks

movesyouveneverseen · 09/06/2019 12:25

Well done!! Such a great achievement, you must remember this if / when you get that feeling again. (I need to take my own advice!)

I hope you’re enjoying the cake Smile

DitheringBlidiot · 09/06/2019 12:25

Well done!! You should be incredibly proud of yourself!

TheGardenisMine · 09/06/2019 12:26

I feel daft for not being able to do something that would not of given me a second thought years ago.
I had a post on here about all the things I could do know I'm free my H.
What I didn't realise was that saying you can do them freely know is a whole lot different from actually doing them.

Again Thanksto you all x

This is such a lovely story. Well done @thegardenismine. I’m delighted you found the confidence and came back with such a hail of goodies. What you did was amazing and I hope you enjoy the cake and your new plants

TheNemesisOfLame · 09/06/2019 12:32

Cake, book and plants.
Wins all round (fete has made money too - so you helped them) and well done you

RedPink · 09/06/2019 12:38

Well done OP, I’m so glad it went well. Are you going to plant out your plants this afternoon?

Foslady · 09/06/2019 12:42

That’s brilliant - first time is always the worst time! And you have something to tell yourself ‘I did this, I CAN meet the next challenge ‘. So chuffed for you Smile

RavenLG · 09/06/2019 12:43

Honestly you’ve done brilliantly. I suffer with anxiety and it is definitely made worse by staying in my comfort zone (usually the house) and not doing things that are outside of it. Pushing through really does make you feel good and realise that actually there isn’t anything to be anxious of. Remember that feeling of accomplishment the next time you feel overwhelmed and how today went swimmingly and it’ll really help for next time!!

Freshstart40 · 09/06/2019 12:47

That's such a great update! Really well done.

Freshstart40 · 09/06/2019 12:48

PS I feel like you did today most days on the school run. I have to force myself to do it!

finnmcool · 09/06/2019 12:52

Bloody well done! You've taken a first, really important step!
Enjoy your cake and watch your plants getting bigger and stronger, just like you! Flowers

dancingcamper · 09/06/2019 12:53

So happy to read your updates - well done OP!

Keep doing things like that and don't worry too much when you have set-backs, it will get better.

youarenotkiddingme · 09/06/2019 12:54

Yay go you Grin

You took a first step and managed more than you imagined you could. And ALSO used reasoning to go back out. You worked out your own way around going back out.

Now for an afternoon sitting in garden reading, eating cake and planning where to put those plants.

humblesims · 09/06/2019 12:59

am a little pleased with myself
upgrade that to big bit pleased OP. You did brilliantly.
Enjoy that garden.

TheGardenisMine · 09/06/2019 13:03

I feel a little smiley. But definitely could not have done it without you lot being the voice of reason.
I'm torn between feet up and starting book or planting. I'll let the weather decide as too many decisions already today .
I've also got to overcome that while the cake looks delicious , I always used to buy my own back ( & trained the children to do same) at school fetes.
They were WI cakes so am sure they'll be lovely Cake
