more ranting on his account last night.

I'm curious as to why the particular themes of his rants at this time.

I agree, these tweets are Trump's anti-Muslim clarion call – and I also agree that he's not averse to taking a big ol' stirry spoon to the anti-semitism pot and seeing what he can get out of it.

The timing is, of course, dead-catting.

I think the four congresswoman are spot on when they say, "Don't take the bait."

Congresswomen hit back after Trump's tweets branded racist
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-48998696

Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib urged the US people "not to take the bait" at a Monday news conference.
[...]
Following the outcry, the four women told reporters they wanted to re-focus attention on to the president's policies.
"This is simply a disruption and a distraction from the callous chaos and corrupt culture of this administration, all the way down," Ms Pressley said.

PerkingFaintly · 16/07/2019 12:01

Mm, just read your post, OYBBK.

Do you think there's something specific in his choice of dead-cat?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2019 12:50

I do Perking. I don't think that it is a coincidence that anti-Semitism (which is utterly abhorrent and belongs nowhere) is suddenly being flagged in neon in both the UK and US. Yes it needs to be stamped out, absolutely it does, but why after years and years is it suddenly so prominently being called out?

Who is provoking it and how is it linking in with the rise in Islamaphobia and the provocation of tension in Iran?

Whosorrynow · 16/07/2019 12:56

urged the US people not to take the bait
I wonder if this could be an inflection point, canTrump be reframed as someone who's entire strategy just revolves around baiting people?

PerkingFaintly · 16/07/2019 13:09

I'm certainly seeing a number of Dem politicians who are learning how to handle his serve.

I think it was Buttigeig who said we wouldn't be hearing Trump's name from him, except on rare occasions.

Now this group of women are saying, "Yeah, he's racist, now back to business."

Whosorrynow · 16/07/2019 13:18

The only thing that fuels Trump is the knee jerk responses to his outrageous behaviour, without that he withers to nothing

Lweji · 16/07/2019 14:12

"Don't take the bait."

I haven't heard them yet, but I was thinking exactly this. It's a type of war that serves nobody except Trump.

Democrats need to propose a better way. Better policies, better ways of making politics.
Not enter silly twitter wars and name calling.

.....as if there was a difference...........

lionheart · 16/07/2019 17:15

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jul/15/trump-twitter-aoc-racist-rant-congress

'It was foul and repugnant. But was it a vote winner?

Donald Trump’s bigoted tirade against four congresswoman of colour, telling them to “go back” to the countries they came from, prompted widespread revulsion – the comments “drip with racism”, said the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer – and yet will not necessarily damage his chances of reelection.

On the contrary, the US president seems to regard divisive and nativist rhetoric as his best chance of clinging on to the White House next year. And, analysts say, he may be right.'

Much will depend on the candidates and how well they stump.

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-kim-jong-un-west-wing-white-house-dmz-queen-photographs-a9007511.html

'Lots of people like to show off their new photographs when they get home from a foreign trip, and Donald Trump is no different.

Visitors to the White House have noticed a handful of photographs hanging on the walls, showing the president in action overseas.

People have also commented on the intriguing juxtaposition; the president with North Korean dictator at the DMZ, next to one of him with the Queen during his state visit to Britain last month.'

I read these threads with great interest, also tweets from journalists from the USA - this one though is more staggering than his weekend tweets and subsequent outburst twitter.com/AndrewFeinberg/status/1151165148217917441?s=19
