Brexit funder Arron Banks threatens Netflix over Great Hack documentary
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/jul/20/arron-banks-netflix-threat-great-hack-documentary

The businessman Arron Banks and the unofficial Brexit campaign Leave.EU have issued a legal threat against streaming giant Netflix in relation to The Great Hack, a new documentary about the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the abuse of personal data.
[...]
Banks had not seen The Great Hack, which comes out on general release on Netflix this week, when he instructed lawyers over the documentary.

I found this an interesting discussion of trumps white supremacist agenda

'people literally lost their minds over this black man becoming president...Trump saw the writing on the wall'
TheClaws · 21/07/2019 02:19

The wording here is concerning - “army,” “mobilise,” “recruit,” “battleground,” “train.”

“The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) are mobilizing thousands of volunteers in more than a dozen battleground states, including a handful that President Trump lost in 2016, as they seek to expand the electoral map ahead of 2020.”

We're already mobilizing our army of volunteers to recruit, train & register new voters – all to help @realDonaldTrump & our candidates in 2020!

I haven't previously found use of "army", "battleground" concerning. Even "campaign" is a military term.

So I'm not going to read too much into them at the moment. Obviously context could change that, but...

'President Trump’s own top aides didn’t think he fully understood what he had done last Sunday, when he fired off a trio of racist tweets before a trip to his golf course.

After he returned to the White House, senior adviser Kellyanne Conway felt compelled to tell him why the missives were leading newscasts around the country, upsetting allies and enraging opponents. Calling on four minority congresswomen — all citizens, three born in the United States — to “go back” to the “totally broken and crime infested places from which they came” had hit a painful historical nerve.

Trump defended himself. He had been watching “Fox & Friends” after waking up. He wanted to elevate the congresswomen, as he had previously discussed with aides. The Democratic lawmakers — Reps. Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) — were good foils, he had told his advisers, including campaign manager Brad Parscale. The president said he thought he was interjecting himself into Democratic Party politics in a good way.'

Perking, you’re probably right, but the overt, constant use of militaristic terms bothered me.

Anyway! The Kushners have a new dog. Ivanka announced it in her usual tone-deaf manner - make of it what you will.

This thread is an interesting readfrom the guy who organised election campaigns against David Duke in the 1990s. Different time, different scale Duke was running for the Senate and for Governor -- but the numbers (Duke won 60% and 55% of the white vote) are relevant:

Thank you for that last thread about Duke, lionheart - fascinating reading and I hope Dems and Trump opponents everywhere learn from it. Am off to re-tweet it!

cricketballs3 · 22/07/2019 13:42

Could someone enlighten me why in his recent rants is he focusing on America and Israel? I'm presuming that it's to try win over Jewish voters but can anyone explain in more detail please

Roussette · 22/07/2019 15:22

As you say cricket I presume he is trying to expand/keep his base. And to paint the Democrats as anti-jewish. Someone more knowledgeable than me will be coming along I'm sure!

On Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross:

'“Because he tends to fall asleep in meetings, they try not to put him in a position where that could happen so they’re very careful and conscious about how they schedule certain meetings,” said the former outside adviser. “There’s a small window where he’s able to focus and pay attention and not fall asleep.”'

It seems strange that Trump is keen to portray himself as pro-Israel, given the number of his followers who have made no secret of the fact that they hate Jews and seriously believe that "the Jews" are conspiring to do terrible things; they believe George Soros is evil and should be killed, for instance, and the Jeffrey Epstein case will fuel their anti-Semitic views.

All the stuff in this article probably wouldn't make Trump's "core vote" hate him enough to letter-bomb him if he were not Jewish.

'Former Vice President Joe Biden joked in an interview that aired Tuesday that he would challenge President Donald Trump to a push-up contest if the President attacked his age or mental health'
that would be so great, to see trump straining to force out one push up while Joe Biden does about 50 with ease :o
how sweet would be his humiliation :)
