I don't think Kamala will burn out Lweji. She's a tough woman and can stand with the best of them. She proved that when she was our (Calif) AG. But I don't think 2020 is 'her year'.

If I have my way the ticket would be either Biden or Bernie (I'm leaning Biden but haven't made up my mind yet, it's too soon) with Kamala as VP. That will give her the seasoning and exposure she needs to be elected in either 2024 or 2028. Due to Biden's and Bernie's ages I'm not sure they'd go for a second term, especially if they knew that Kamala (as a former VP) had a strong chance.

Lweji · 28/06/2019 17:41

I think Biden or Bernie will be mistakes similar to Hillary.
Too old. Too establishment.
But...

Meanwhile, nobody can say the Japanese aren't smart.

AcrossthePond55 · 28/06/2019 21:01

Could be, Lweji. But I think this election is (unfortunately) going to be about 'electability' as opposed to 'issues' and I'm not sure how many of the disaffected former Trumpers or vacillating Midwesterners are ready for a minority female or a gay candidate. I think the best thing to do is to find the candidate who appeals to the broadest range of voters (including Independents and moderates) and get Trump the hell out of the WH. I think that Biden (more than Bernie) will be more likely to gather in some of the disaffected Trump voters and the more moderate Democrats than Kamala Harris or even Elizabeth Warren. 2020 is about getting Trump the hell out of the WH. 2024 is about moving the agenda forward.

But in better news:

@TheClaws, is Ivanka really going to be the new press secretary? She'll be pulling some stupid 'it's unfair to ask a daughter questions like that about her father' stuntsHmm

TheClaws · 29/06/2019 00:54

No, Whosorrynow. The White House confirmed Stephanie Grisham as the new Press Secretary a few days ago. However, I wouldn’t put it above the Trumps that they would install Ivanka as an unofficial one.

TheClaws · 29/06/2019 00:57

This is bonkers. Kim, darling, if you’re reading this, do meet me at the DMZ for a hug won’t you? I don’t get on with my allies, but I do love my dictators!

After some very important meetings, including my meeting with President Xi of China, I will be leaving Japan for South Korea (with President Moon). While there, if Chairman Kim of North Korea sees this, I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say Hello(?)!

A “great honour” to meet with this fantastic murderer of one of citizens ...

JUST IN: President Trump meets with Saudi Crown Prince bin Salman at G-20 in Japan, calls him "a friend of mine" and says that he's done "really a spectacular job" and that it's a "great honor" to meet with him.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jun/28/migrant-father-daughter-drowned-valeria-parents

'The US government’s goal was to funnel migrant traffic into remote and dangerous landscapes, thereby deterring migrants from making the journey. But the strategy does nothing to address the root causes of migration, and the result is not fewer border crossers – it is a gauntlet of death. More than 7,000 migrants have been found dead along the US-Mexico border over the last two decades, though this number is estimated to be only a fraction of the true death count.'

Oh look, the dunes at Trump's Aberdeenshire golf course is losing its SSSI status because they have effectively been destroyed.

Just like SNH said it would be Hmm

PerkingFaintly · 29/06/2019 17:07

Yes, I saw that about the damage to the Site of Special Scientific Interest, ContinuityError. As you say, it was just as predicted.

What's astonishing about that piece (or then again, may not), is the whiny wah-wah statement from the Trump Organisation.

Someone's feelings are really hurt that anyone noticed they damaged the SSSI, aren't they? Poor little victim Trump Organisation.Hmm

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/06/2019 17:16

You'd have thought they would be pleased that they now have free rein to do whatever they want there.

As for "the SNH didn't spend any time there before the golf-course was built", well, no, an SSSI needs to be left alone to get on with it, not muggered about with all the time.

Everything that Trump touches dies (unless someone steps in to prevent the destruction):

theintercept.com/2018/08/01/rex-tillerson-qatar-saudi-uae/

'The Intercept has learned of a previously unreported episode that stoked the UAE and Saudi Arabia’s anger at Tillerson and that may have played a key role in his removal. In the summer of 2017, several months before the Gulf allies started pushing for his ouster, Tillerson intervened to stop a secret Saudi-led, UAE-backed plan to invade and essentially conquer Qatar, according to one current member of the U.S. intelligence community and two former State Department officials, all of whom declined to be named, citing the sensitivity of the matter.'

PerkingFaintly Sarah Malone is well known locally (and not in a good way) - not least for encouraging her DH to print lots of puff pieces in the P&J, what with him being the editor.

PerkingFaintly · 29/06/2019 20:07

Shock The Press & Journal's editor is married to a senior Trump employee?

OK. That I did not know.

ContinuityError · 29/06/2019 20:26

He (Damian Bates) was the P&J editor - stepped down in 2017.

Seems like Bates and George Sorial (Trump lawyer) have a book out though:

A sobering comment. (re: Trump’s offhand “don’t interfere in our elections, OK?” to Putin - possibly treasonous in the current environment.)

Early 2017, Senate Intelligence Committee held open and closed door hearings on cspan.
Estonia, USIA officials testified on the attacks from Russia on the elections here and abroad.
Senate: "Are we at war?"
USIC: "Yes, we're at war."

I remember this moment.
Yes, we're at war

If Russia were an “enemy,” Trump would clearly be guilty of “treason.” But Russia is a hostile nation making cyberwar on the U.S. So Trump is committing “high Crimes and Misdemeanors” in plain view by cozying up to Putin. We need #ImpeachmentInquiryNow!

TheClaws · 30/06/2019 04:40

Ivanka, faux Secretary of State - one of the many non-roles she fills at the White House where she shouldn’t be - expounds on something to do mucking up North Korea.

Jennifer Jacobs @JenniferJJacobs
Ivanka Trump says she will “absolutely” step over border at DMZ into North Korea today, “if I was invited.”

“We need to continue that dialogue to work in good faith to realize that goal (of denuclearization). Today is another step in that direction,” she told me.
