Just remembering Sing Hosanna, I'm sure we all used to shout TO THE KING

Shangrilalala · 08/06/2019 08:58

Welsh mumsnetters will recall the utter joy of belting out Un Bob Un Sy’n Ffyddlon, (complete with harmonies) at school assembly. Happy days!

HelloViroids · 08/06/2019 08:58

Jubilate, everybody, serve the Lord in all his ways and come before his presence singing enter now his courts with praise!

Think of a world without any people, think of a street with no one living there... this one terrified me, a bit post-apocalyptic!

The world is a garden you made, and you are the one who planted the seed....

Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways.

Living lord and servant king!

This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine

RainbowPanda · 08/06/2019 09:21

It's funny how Autumn Days is so popular (even reading youtube comments). My school never sang this! So I don't recognise it at all. We stuck to a core set of songs and that was it. I wonder if that was all Mrs M could play on the piano...

LoafofSellotape · 08/06/2019 09:27

I looked up autumn days on YouTube, no way did we learn that as the jet planes meeting in the sky to refuel (WTAF?!Confused) would've confused and terrified me Grin

I also think the person playing the piano, can't remember them at all, possibly didn't know how to play it!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 08/06/2019 09:33

I was such a rebel I stole mine from school on the last day of Year 6 so that I could carry on singing the songs at home Blush.

I still have it now and I'm 38.

Babdoc · 08/06/2019 09:33

We still sing most of these during the children’s section of the service, at my church. They’re all great hymns.
Why not go along to your own local churches and have a lovely nostalgic sing on Sundays? Everyone is welcome in God’s house, whether you’re Christians or not, and there’s often coffee and tray bakes after the service, giving a nice chance to meet your neighbours and have a chat.

ShowOfHands · 08/06/2019 09:49

This thread comes up every couple of years and I always ask about my favourite song which nobody remembers. I think it was in Come and Praise 2 and went something like...

By brother sun who brings the day
And sheds his dazzling light
And warms the world with welcome rays
By sister moon and sister stars

I've googled and asked friends. Please somebody tell me I didn't invent it!

Impatienceismyvirtue · 08/06/2019 09:56

Some days I don’t want to be on MN any more, then a post like this comes up and I’m so glad I still hang around! Going onto Amazon to buy a copy today.

OhioOhioOhio · 08/06/2019 10:00

I love that this thread has brought us altogether.

Why dont these songs get sung in schools anymore?

itsmesoitis · 08/06/2019 10:01

We had 'Be still' as our first wedding hymn. I love it.

Does anyone remember one which went '3, and 2 coming through, the clouds in bright array?

I have that line stuck in my head and can't get the rest of song!

RuffleCrow · 08/06/2019 10:05

I have to get this!

'Autumn days when the grass is jewelled' was the first song that ever made me realise other peopld noticed the small everyday 'miracles' of existence Grin

Does it have the one that goes 'i like the fireflies, i like the rolling hills' ?

PostNotInHaste · 08/06/2019 10:08

Love these threads when they pop up and have a copy somewhere. Did anyone do Captain Noah and his Floating Ark? We did this plus Sweeney Todd the Barber at primary school, still can’t get my head around doing the latter !

TigerMummy1 · 08/06/2019 10:16

We are still using this at our school! Last week I sang 'Give me oil' 3 times.

@ShowOfHands not sure if we've got book 1 or 2 but I'll look on Monday for you!

everythingthelighttouches · 08/06/2019 10:17

Ooh, another from come and praise which had just come back to me...
"when god made the garden of creation
He filled it full of his loooooove
When god made the garden of creation
He thought that iiittt was goooood... "

LoafofSellotape · 08/06/2019 10:43

everythingthelighttouches

Can't remember the tune but sounds very familiar.

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 08/06/2019 10:50

Takes me back to my days at a Catholic primary, where we worshipped and sang every morning, with 'hymn paractice' weekly. One of my favourites was ' Oh the love of my Lord is the essence ' we sang the second verse in descant!

AnnaComnena · 08/06/2019 11:08

I think I'll have an hour or two on YouTube this afternoon. Last time there was a hymn thread I found some lovely performances by cathedral choirs.

Babdoc, I was at a meeting recently on a weekday. Not a religious organisation, but the room hired for the meeting happened to be attached to a church. The church was having drop in community hymn singing in the hall next door. Very well attended, and so rousing they nearly had us up on our feet joining in. And yes, they did have tea and cakes!

And I learned that the Dambusters' March is used as a hymn tune.

U2HasTheEdge · 08/06/2019 11:15

OMG. I need this album in my life! I loved our school assembly songs.

My favourite was 'from the tiny ant'.

BluebellsareBlue · 08/06/2019 11:16

@DearPrudence that celebration Hymnal May have accidentally fallen into my school bag Shock I still have it! Make me a channel of your peace
And 226 (I think) was my absolute favourite EVER, walk with me oh my Lord, through the darkest night and brightest day......

BluebellsareBlue · 08/06/2019 11:20

Ooh singing together was my favourite time of the week!
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
I have a red sombrero doo doo.
Streets of Laredo
There was one about rip van winkle I was happily singing to myself last week at work.

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 08/06/2019 11:28

@vdbfamily
I used to sing that in Brownies. It’s called An Austrian Went Yodelling. There were extra sound effects and a lot of thigh slapping as I recall!

Who put the colours in the rainbow?
Who put the blue into the sea?
Who.....
God made you and me!

You shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace,
And the mountains and the hills will break forth before you
....and the trees of the field shall clap, shall clap, their hands
