Leaving baby in hotel room

AvadaKedavra92 · 07/06/2019 16:39

So I'm on the ground floor of a hotel have a baby monitor, WIBU to take the video monitor to the bar/restaurant and get something to eat while she sleeps?

I'm not sure whether to do it or not, don't want to wake her up this evening for me to go eat. They don't offer room service.

Sorry I didn't read the full thread, just so shocked someone was even contemplating this.

dementedpixie · 08/06/2019 22:47

Are you still at the hotel @AvadaKedavra92 ?

AvadaKedavra92 · 08/06/2019 22:49

@BlueWonder For a start this was last night, and quite unforseen given the powercut. I was a bit flustered so didn't pick anything up from the supermarket.

If you'd read the full thread, you'd know I had a specific medical condition.

Why the hell do people bother to comment when the haven't even at least read the op's updates Hmm

@dementedpixie nope, power was back on at 10:26 am! Grin

@BlueWonder yes well take your judgy comments elsewhere if you can't be bothered to rtft.

I had a monitor, I was 15ft away and could see my room - I wanted people's opiniond on whether it was okay, as although I thought it might be, I had an uneasy feeling about doing it!

Can't believe this thread is still going.

MrsMiggins37 · 08/06/2019 23:03

Ffs there’s a way to tell the OP it wasn’t a good idea without being a total cunt about it. She’s a young woman on her own with a baby in a new situation. Do some of you people talk to people IRL like this?

QueenofPain · 08/06/2019 23:04

Kate, is that you?

Peachsummer · 08/06/2019 23:33

If you have to eat for a medical condition then presumably you have a stash of emergency food because you can’t risk not being able to get some? I have allergies so I permanently carry long life snack bars etc in my bag in case I can’t access a safe meal. My friend is diabetic and carries food and insulin because she has to inject herself and eat at certain times. It’s a bit irresponsible not to carry food if you absolutely can’t afford to miss a meal.

tenbob · 08/06/2019 23:38

What I find SO utterly bizarre is that a tonne of posters have cited the fire risk as a reason not to do it, but then lots more have suggested using AirBNB as an alternative to hotels

There isn’t a hope in hell I would ever let my children spend the night in an AirBNB house.

Hotels have to have properly-installed and inspected fire alarms, they have to have sprinkler systems. Every single thing has to be electrically tested regularly, the wiring and windows and bedding and furniture all have to pass tests.

None of this is required in an AirBNB. Not even a basic gas safety certificate.

The chances of any harm coming to a baby sleeping 15ft away from its mum who is watching on a monitor has to be as close to zero as is possible.

I think you would have to be clinically insane to think it is safe to stay in a random AirBNB with a family.

DreamsOfDownUnder · 08/06/2019 23:49

@Peachsummer yes it is irresponsible, it is a new condition and I'm still getting used to it. I was also slightly flustered at being on my own with a baby, in a new flat (my first) and powercut, something I have never dealt with before. So my head was a bit all over the place and it's not like I was in the middle of the dessert with not food Hmm. No need to be mean.

DreamsOfDownUnder · 08/06/2019 23:50

Aha, changed my name back 😂😂

Lemonlady22 · 09/06/2019 00:44

id rather starve than leave my baby in a hotel room alone....and its not the same as you being at home!

DreamsOfDownUnder · 09/06/2019 00:53

@Lemonlady22 that has been established. Thanks.

Grumpymug · 09/06/2019 05:48

Hotels have to have properly-installed and inspected fire alarms, they have to have sprinkler systems. Every single thing has to be electrically tested regularly, the wiring and windows and bedding and furniture all have to pass tests.

Guests bring chargers and equipment they use that isn't pat tested. And the thing about hotels is that you can only control the risk of fire to a certain degree, you can't control the idiocy actions of those people who think it's a good idea to smoke in hotel rooms, or other things that can pose a fire risk. That's why the fire precautions are so stringent, and why there's a higher risk than say being at home. And why you should move when the fire alarm goes off whole other thread Grin
Totally agree on the air b 'n' b front though.

YouJustDoYou · 09/06/2019 05:53

I would've done it. Monitor on? 15 feet away? It's fine. So many pearl clutchers.

BlueWonder · 09/06/2019 07:51

@AvadaKedavra92

Presumably you posted for people''s views....otherwise what"'s the point? I gave my view on rhe situation and what you were proposing. I also added a second post immediately afterwards to say I hadn't read the full thread but had posted as an immediate reaction. That is allowed, I can add my view on your original question without wading through 9 pages of updates. I even said it would be different if you had to eat due to a medical condition (something not in your original post). I hope it all worked out well, but if you post on a forum, you invite comment Smile

DameSquashalot · 09/06/2019 08:38

I'm pleased you enjoyed your meal OP.

Some people find it hard to give an opposing opinion without being horrible.

Lifeover · 09/06/2019 08:41

No. I refer you to the case of Madeline McCann

mollpop · 09/06/2019 09:44

Would you forgive yourself if something happened to the baby while you left her? If the answer's no, don't do it.

sweetheartyparty · 09/06/2019 10:05

Glad the electrics are sorted. I can't see what you proposed bears any resemblance to the Madeline McCann case and I have RTFT

DreamsOfDownUnder · 09/06/2019 10:12

@mollpop That's why I posted, I clearly had doubt. I've had my dinner - this was the day before yesterday!

ArtistOfTheFloatingWorld · 09/06/2019 12:17

For goodness sake, it is clearly not the same as Madeleine McCann!

TriciaH87 · 09/06/2019 12:27

Is your baby Called Madeline? Only are you stupid. Madeline was taken allegedly when her parents did just this. If you do this please report yourself to social services as you should not have a child in your care.

DreamsOfDownUnder · 09/06/2019 13:03

@TriciaH87 The Mcanns were get pissed, a lot further than 15ft away without a monitor. Not quite the same 15ft, seeing the room for half hour with a video monitor and not getting pissed.

Besides, it was 2 days ago, I didn't do it!
