To wonder why people have to post on Fb when they are on holiday?

I mean FFS enjoy your holiday and step away from your phone / social media.

So, a relative is on holiday, somewhere really expensive, hot, all inclusive (yes I’m jealous), they go on holiday quite a lot. I have had to look at every meal they have eaten, every trip they have been on, every cocktail they have had and photos of every waiter that has served them. I mean, surely if your on holiday you should be having fun and not sat on your phone taking photos of every morsel of food you eat??

And before anyone suggests I hide their profile, I just have 😁, I’m just miffed at why someone would be on Fb all day whilst on holiday?

I think it so that burglars know they’re away. It’s very generous really

Hahah this happened to a mate of mine

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 06/06/2019 06:16

Not haha that it happened ....

It really is a straw mans argument , the only people I have on my social media are family and friends, and my settings are set to these people only, so unless you have loathsome and morally repugnant people in your inner circle, I would worry too much!!

GreasedPiglet · 06/06/2019 06:23

I literally feel like I've been on holiday with some of my FB friends 😄.

I quite like it, they're just sharing that they're having a nice time. And I don't need to wonder what Disneyland / Disneyworld / whatever is like, because I've already seen it.

Firstly not only your chosen people can see your photos etc anyone Facebook decide has a good reason to see can see it
Secondly, peoples accounts get hacked, and change settings, so your info can be leaked that way
Thirdly, some people think they are locked down, but they're not

I think its.mean and petty to moan that people are having fun doing what they like to because you dont agree

Post your photos, enjoy your life

SoupDragon · 06/06/2019 07:04

Do burglars sit around with a cuppa trawling Facebook for holiday photos then spend time tracking down that person's address?

How do people know that, if they are unfortunately burgled whilst away, it was due to Facebook posts and not just someone opportunistic seeing that the house was clearly empty?

tomtom1999xx · 06/06/2019 07:11

Isn’t it to make people feel jealous / envious?

Isn’t that all FB is?

SciFiRules · 06/06/2019 07:20

What I hate is other people putting photos including me or my family on Facebook, especially when they add names to them. I choose not to be on Facebook but somehow it's OK to plaster me on it because it's "your" photographe.

SoupDragon · 06/06/2019 07:24

Only if you're that sort of person. It would never have occurred to me that people are only doing it to be mean.

burnoutbabe · 06/06/2019 07:26

Surely if you are friends on social media you sort of want to know what interesting things the friend does.
So if most days the most interesting thing one does is pick a different pret sandwich at lunchtime, then holiday is when you actually have stuff to share.
Anyway my mum likes seeing my holiday pics.
And it's a myth that insurance companies are refusing claims due to Facebook posts. Can't fund its ever actually happened. (Bar someone actually posting a pic of an open door with their address and inviting people to rob them). Most people know you if are at work most days and therefore the house doesn't have anyone in. That doesn't invalidate your insurance does it?

Lindy2 · 06/06/2019 07:26

I use Facebook as a photo album/diary.
All my holidays are on there and I look back at the photos from time to time. I like the random memories that pop up.
My security settings mean that only friends and family can see my posts. If they don't want to see my holiday photos they can easily opt out or scroll past.
I really don't get why people get so worked up about what other people like to use Facebook for.

LimeKiwi · 06/06/2019 07:26

Isn't it only to make other people jealous /envious

No, I do it for me to look back on.
Not everything's always about you.
Says more about the person who's jealous or envious and their issues if they are.

milkshak3 · 06/06/2019 07:33

I have a couple of friends. they post about 50-60 pics and video every single day they are on holiday. every portion of chips, every sandwich, every time they are sitting down on a bench (usually x 5 as it's a family of 5 so every one gets a photo opportunity)...

I feel for them. not sure what's the problem with people but surely the point of a holiday is just that - a break. posting every fart they do on Facebook is for me the opposite. and I know by now that a Spanish portion of chips looks just like one over here.

also, my one friend had a break in into her house less than a year ago (whilst on the school run, not holiday). they raided so man things and it was hugely upsetting. why announce to the world you are away for a week

LimeKiwi · 06/06/2019 07:38

I have had to look at every meal they've eaten
Er, sorry to point out the bleedin' obvious, but no you don't lol.
Have you heard of the unfollow button? Is brilliant as it just hides their updates.
I've done it for a couple, latest being someone doing political after political post cluttering up my news feed.
Still lovely people, just get hidden every now and again!
I honestly don't know why some people are on social media if they huff at updates from their so called friends Confused

bellinisurge · 06/06/2019 07:42

Not having the lights on a timer switch and not having neighbours check for post hanging out of your letter box. And school holidays. Is more likely to have your house broken into. Opportunistic scallies Rather than master criminals stalking you on FB because a friend of a friend liked a post about your sunburn.
Check your fb settings.

TemporaryPermanent · 06/06/2019 07:44

I dunno, holidays can be quite dull.

JacquesHammer · 06/06/2019 07:49

So in fact she was burgled at a time when most houses are likely to be empty....and in fact nothing to do with being away Grin

rookiemere · 06/06/2019 07:49

I post some holiday pics on FB as a) it's the only time of year we do anything remotely interesting b) family shots c) I find others pics of different countries and dare I say it dinners interesting.

I found it really sad when my DCousins DH stopped posting his meals from abroad on business trips because my cousin told him to. I liked looking at them.

youarenotkiddingme · 06/06/2019 07:52

I don't get it either. If you're having a great time on holiday you aren't sat on the phone and facebooking!

When I'm on holiday I enjoy the fact I don't use my phone! It stays on airplane mode if out and about (use it for pictures) or its off and in safe!

youarenotkiddingme · 06/06/2019 07:53

I will admit when I come home and it's less of an announcement to the local burglars I do post the pictures in an album.

Friends and family do like to see them

JacquesHammer · 06/06/2019 07:56

If you're having a great time on holiday you aren't sat on the phone and facebooking!

I don’t get why the two are mutually exclusive?!

I mean, do you never have 5 mins on holiday when you’re waiting for someone else? Or have finished a book and can’t be bothered to get another one? Etc etc

ssd · 06/06/2019 08:12

I came off social media as I found people just lied on it. I'd see a post saying that so and so is out with hubby having a wonderful time, couple of cute posed pics of them, blah blah blah then when I met them she'd tell me how shit the meal was and how hubby drives her mad.
Can't be bothered with it now

tomtom1999xx · 06/06/2019 08:13

Well yes, there is that Grin

It barely takes longer than taking photographs.
