To think people shouldn't put HP spoilers in their nickname, then post all over MN.

Yes, I'm talking about you, deadpersonalhouseelf. I haven't even bought the book yet an already I know (partly) what happens.

It's fairly obvious from the title though, isn't it, so if people don't want to know what the spoiler nickname is, they don't need to open the thread. Duh.
People don't give away the ending to other books, film, TV programmes without warning but it's ok with this one because it's HP.

Also, it's a good warning that there is a spoiler nickname out there and if you don't want to find out anything until you've read the book, it's best to stay away from MN for a bit.
Btw, I'm not upset, just think it's inconsiderate of the person involved.

I hnestly do understand why people would want to spoil the fun and enjoyment of other people. I wonder if these posters the first kids in the village to find out that Father Christmas wasn't real and got their jollies from making all the other kids miserable?

Lakota · 23/07/2007 08:29

Have just come on to say those who are still reading HP - avoid Yahoo news site. They are also being big selfish meanies and have dropped a spoiler - including the last line - with no warning into one of their stories about record breaking sales for the book. Luckily for me I finished it last night, but why certain journalists think giving away crucial plot details equals a review I will never know.

Yahoo also infuriated me when they gave away the end of The Sopranos when it hadn't yet aired on UK TV!

Hulababy · 23/07/2007 08:48

To be fair, JK Rowling herself said the last line on TV previously I believe.

Lakota · 23/07/2007 08:57

Did she? What an odd thing to do. I stand corrected. Still irritated though.

Hulababy · 23/07/2007 08:59

The last line in that Yahoo link is not actually the last line in the book. It makes sense after reading it what they mean, but it is not the last line in the actual book.

FlameDelacour · 23/07/2007 09:02

I can't find a yahoo link!

Hulababy · 23/07/2007 09:04

This link I think

FlameDelacour · 23/07/2007 09:07

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, thank you.

News things like that is exactly why I resorted to reading it faster than I would have chosen to.

LoonyLyraLovegood · 23/07/2007 09:09

That doesn't give much away though does it.

yanbu

Lakota · 23/07/2007 09:10

Well have passed book on already so can't check, but it must be near as damn it, as that's basically what I remember and I did just finish it late last night. Which will be why I'm yawning now...

Anyway...I think I'm just fed up at so called 'scoops'. Who would go to the cinema if everytime you read a review it just told you the twist at the end of the film? I was under the impression a review should give you an idea of whether something is well written, enjoyable etc without taking away the enjoyment of reading it! Would reviewers of Booker Prize novels like Life of Pi mention the true identity of Richard Parker?

Lakota · 23/07/2007 09:13

And I do know it's a children's book and as such one might be able to make certain predictions...but, would you go up to a 9 year old and ruin it for them?

Hulababy · 23/07/2007 09:17

I have the book in front of me. It is not the last line of the actual book.

LoonyLyraLovegood · 23/07/2007 09:18

The review says it's the last line spoken by Harry.

OP posts:
Lakota · 23/07/2007 09:18

Oh right yes, I see what you mean.

Enid · 23/07/2007 09:24

er well I've only read half of the first book (to the dds) and I could have predicted that ending without having to work too hard

LoonyLyraLovegood · 23/07/2007 12:47

So, DPHE, so you have anything to say about this? I see you're still posting under your spoiler name.

OP posts:
PotatoOfDoom · 23/07/2007 20:04

IMO that last sentence by harry is a bit of a spoiler. So glad I was able to read this before people spoilt it

PersonalClown · 23/07/2007 20:10

Crikey! Am I not allowed to forget something?
I was posting on the spoiler thread, having a bit of banter with another poster and forgot to change back.

LoonyLyraLovegood · 23/07/2007 20:26

Your forgefulness is spoling the book for other people.

OP posts:
PersonalClown · 23/07/2007 20:30

How do you know I was referring to a specific HE? There are 3 named ones and a lot at Hogwarts.
It's not like I gave away a major plot line.

FrannyandZooey · 23/07/2007 20:40

I have said this on another thread, but if you are so desperate to read the book without any tiny part of it being spoilt or revealed to you early, then

GET OFF THE INTERNET AND GO AND READ THE FECKING THING

how long do we have to hold off talking about it where you might hear? I haven't read War and Peace but I might want to one day; I don't expect people to avoid discussing it until I get around to it

PersonalClown · 23/07/2007 20:43

Thank you F&Z. Much appreciated.
