AIBU to think believing science can change sexual orientation is a logical and reasonable assumption?

From Ann Widdicome who believes that as science can change a person's sex then its logical that science could change a person's sexual orientation? To be clear I dont believe this, I dont think science (be it hormones or extreme plastic surgery) can change a person's sex, let alone a person's sexual orientation but for those who do believe humans can change sex, do you agee? If not, why not?

'Your life's happiness should never depend on another person. Ever. That isn't healthy. Happiness is something you choose.
.'

The idea that 'happiness is something you choose' is really dangerous, going way beyond just the sexuality issue. Yes, in developed countries, with reasonable luck, our own planning and decision-making will contribute to how happy we are. But the blanket statement that people 'choose' happiness can lead to all sorts of victim-blaming, and certainly doesn't work outside the 'first world' and not always within it. If someone is sick and hungry, without access to medicine or adequate nutrition, and is watching their third child die of hunger or preventable disease, should they be blamed for not 'choosing' to be happy? If they have lost everything to war, and are desperately fleeing bombs, should they be blamed for not 'choosing' to be happy? Should victims of torture be told that they should just choose to be happy? Even in less extreme circumstances, should a wife who is regularly beaten by her husband, or a child who is relentlessly bullied, be told that it's up to them to be happy and doesn't depend on the actions of others? Even when someone's lack of happiness is based on internal factors such as mental health problems, this is not a matter of choice.

Ugh, Anne Widdicombe. She should've stuck to reality TV.

The lead twat has rushed to her defense.

@agnurse Will you be voting for the brexit party now that they agree with your bigotry?

Codecracker112 · 30/06/2019 13:14

There's plenty of evidence of people leaving the homosexual lifestyle.

PixieLumos · 31/07/2019 18:36

I think it is, but why would it need to be considered or thought about at all? It’s like suggesting science could turn a straight person gay, but what for? (And because being straight isn’t seen as an issue no one would contemplate this, that’s the problem.) There’s plenty of things science could potentially do - but that doesn’t mean we should consider them.

Conversion therapy is bullshit and doesn't work. Jesus, between this and that stupid hair thread I'm starting to wonder if lesbian and bi women are really welcome here.

PhilSwagielka · 21/07/2020 12:27

Also, Agnurse, I'm not going to force myself to be straight just to please you. Fuck off.

Komacho · 21/07/2020 14:02

At least she's retired from politics again. No doubt she'll be back on tv when reality programs start back up.
