Wondering how much people pay per month for their mortgage...

We currently have our house on the market, looking to move to a new build property nearby. New mortgage has been quoted as being £805 per month. That's more than we are currently paying but actually less than I thought. It's a bigger property and to move up a size the prices go up considerably around here. We aren't well off, don't have a fat pot of savings or equity in the house so, as I see it, that cost is about what we expected. We know of lots of people with mortgages more than that.

A friend asked the other day what it is likely to cost per month and commented it was a lot of money. So, out of interest, I'm wondering what people are generally paying for their mortgages???

When I purchawd my house it was £900 pm for a 3 bedroom terrace in zone 4 london, my salary was approx £35k so worked out being 60% of my income

10years later my payments are now £700 pm and got a promotion so its now 27% of my income

LeahDownTheLane · 28/05/2020 15:49

£425 per month, 3 bed, detached with land in a tiny village. I live in Lincolnshire though so not an expensive part of the country.

cyclingmad · 28/05/2020 15:49

But I'm in my own so no joint come hence why my % figures are high as its only on one income

Horehound · 28/05/2020 15:50

squiglet111 · 28/05/2020 15:51

Horehound · 28/05/2020 15:52

ThereIsNoSuchThingAsRoadTax · 28/05/2020 15:55

youdialwetile · 28/05/2020 15:57

$3000 USD which is about 25% of our gross income (that means before taxes etc, right?)

bravotango · 28/05/2020 15:59

£450 on 3 bed terrace, NW

Maroon85 · 28/05/2020 16:02

Ours is £1400, but we put down a 40% deposit.

Shelby30 · 28/05/2020 16:02

4 bed detached with integrated garage. We pay £485 but we put down a large deposit when we move to this house and have more than 50% equity in the house. This was so we cld start a family and I cld work part time while still being able to afford to do all the things we normally do.

£805, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at as we would probably be paying more than that if we only had a 5 or 10% deposit.

Sh05 · 28/05/2020 16:04

Ours Is £373 for a three bed terrace in Bolton. We paid a 25 percent deposit though as we were renting a very cheap two up two down for 8 years, lived very frugally for that time so save alot of money.
It totally depends on your income and the price of your property

Sh05 · 28/05/2020 16:05

Just realised this is an old old thread!🤭

Hingeandbracket · 28/05/2020 16:08

£1200

Darkbendis · 28/05/2020 16:09

£600/month, a 3 bed end of terrace in a nice area ( suburb of Glasgow). We had a 25% deposit.

usersouthcoast · 28/05/2020 16:12

£2,300 for a three bed terraced townhouse in Winchester. Leasehold, one parking space, no garage, tiny garden. Next to a lovely park, a 3.5 minute walk to train station (1hr to London) and an 8 minute walk to high street.

usersouthcoast · 28/05/2020 16:13

Wow @Hoggleludo - where do you live?

DishingOutDone · 28/05/2020 16:16

We pay £460 or thereabouts, since interest rates were reduced, on a debt of £110k - interest only. We've been trapped in this for years as I was self employed and on paper I didn't earn enough so we couldn't remortgage.

We wont pay it off in the term remaining (7 years) and I reckon a lot of that is because we are being overcharged Shock

Looking at this thread I was trying to work it out but bit confused, people are saying how big their house is or house much it is worth - but surely it what they owe on it that you would need to know for a comparison?

DishingOutDone · 28/05/2020 16:17

@Sh05 - old thread but still interesting!

Lucywilde · 28/05/2020 16:22

£1200 4 bed detached, garage and big garden plus drive. Small market town about 50 minutes from London.

Sh05 · 28/05/2020 16:50
