Wondering how much people pay per month for their mortgage...

We currently have our house on the market, looking to move to a new build property nearby. New mortgage has been quoted as being £805 per month. That's more than we are currently paying but actually less than I thought. It's a bigger property and to move up a size the prices go up considerably around here. We aren't well off, don't have a fat pot of savings or equity in the house so, as I see it, that cost is about what we expected. We know of lots of people with mortgages more than that.

A friend asked the other day what it is likely to cost per month and commented it was a lot of money. So, out of interest, I'm wondering what people are generally paying for their mortgages???

£1220 for a 4 bed in a cheap area of the country. It is about 23% of our earnings. We are also paying nursery fees out £800 per month) but still have enough disposable left to be comfortable. We don’t have any other debt though.

We’re both almost 50 and paid our mortgage off 20 years ago. It wasn’t
huge to start with and with hubby being a builder we improved and moved several times to keep it low. God knows how anyone can afford to have their own home these days.

newusername2009 · 28/05/2020 15:05

£2300

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/05/2020 15:09

I am moving into my first home next month. Mortgage will be £350pm, 3 bed semi in the Midlands. I had a 44% deposit though but property is still cheap here.

sausagefingersH · 28/05/2020 15:12

13% of our take home pay, just under £600 a month for a 3 bed detached in the north. That actually seems quite low compared to others Shock

RubaDubMum89 · 28/05/2020 15:12

Up North, 3 bed house, 30 year mortgage, £340

fullofgoodintentions · 28/05/2020 15:15

It's really irrelevant as how much is too much is totally dependent on what you've got coming in. £800 mortgage is a lot if you only have £2000 coming in, but very little if you have £5k 🤷🏼‍♀️

Shoxfordian · 28/05/2020 15:21

1450 per month, 3 bedroom house in south west london

MaccaPacca81 · 28/05/2020 15:26

1500 quid, zone 5 london.

Hoggleludo · 28/05/2020 15:27

Just over £5500

Bibijayne · 28/05/2020 15:31

£906 between hubbie and I. But this is a big family home and we're not planning on moving anytime in the next 20 years.

Lifeisconfusing · 28/05/2020 15:32

832 for 4 bed detached

BackInTime · 28/05/2020 15:33

Depend on your other financial commitments and plans for the future. Also consider how you could manage if out of work for a period especially if you have little savings? Could you keep up repayments?

Strugglingtodomybest · 28/05/2020 15:36

£176 per month on what was a 2 bed (extended to add another bedroom plus a diner) in the South West, bought 15 years ago.

We overpaid for years though and reduced the payment back to normal at the start of lockdown.

countdowntonap · 28/05/2020 15:37

We pay £750 (over paying £100 each month) but will put payment up to £850-900 a month when we renew mortgage in August to reduce the interest over time.

Iamnotminterested · 28/05/2020 15:37

£18

GrumpySausage · 28/05/2020 15:38

We currently pay £525 a month. But we're in the process of moving and our new mortgage will be £840. Four bed detached cottage in East Midlands.

RainySaturday · 28/05/2020 15:40

300 with 10 years to go, up north. Smaller house than we need but worth it for the low mortgage and part time work it allows.

LemonSqueezy0 · 28/05/2020 15:41

£220 pcm, 4 bed home in Wales. We will be fully paid off in 7 years at that amount. We are balancing keeping the costs low and getting it paid off ASAP, as it would've been alot lower of paid off over 20 years.

LST · 28/05/2020 15:43

We pay £551 a month. On a 173k house. Only had a 10% deposit though.

BossAssBitch · 28/05/2020 15:43

£2300

Devlesko · 28/05/2020 15:44

£200 pm.
