Wondering how much people pay per month for their mortgage...

We currently have our house on the market, looking to move to a new build property nearby. New mortgage has been quoted as being £805 per month. That's more than we are currently paying but actually less than I thought. It's a bigger property and to move up a size the prices go up considerably around here. We aren't well off, don't have a fat pot of savings or equity in the house so, as I see it, that cost is about what we expected. We know of lots of people with mortgages more than that.

A friend asked the other day what it is likely to cost per month and commented it was a lot of money. So, out of interest, I'm wondering what people are generally paying for their mortgages???

£1,000 for a three-bed in the north 😫 it's not even that large but it's a popular and sought after area.

Chloe84 · 08/11/2019 13:42

God this is depressing. I’m paying London prices for a tiny terrace.

bibliomania · 08/11/2019 13:49

£780 for a 2-bed flat up north.

Feels quite high compared to the value of the property - I could rent it for less right now, although the likelihood is that rents will go up while the mortgage won't. I had a relatively small deposit and didn't get a great rate, so I'm planning to remortgage this time next year. I'll probably choose to reduce the overall term rather than the monthly payment, but I'll see what the sums are then.

£2500 for a 3 bed in rural commuter belt

BossAssBitch · 08/11/2019 13:58

sorry that should be commuter 'village' not belt

Greatnorthwoods · 08/11/2019 13:59

USA, $1600 a month (our mortgage payment includes council tax and insurance)

Tipsylizard · 08/11/2019 14:01

£2800 for a big 5 bed house in the South East. It is a totally ridiculous mortgage but we chose to shorten the paying off period so we will have cleared it in 9 years. Sometimes keeps me awake at night but we have 4 children between us and in 9 years we will hopefully be able to have less stressful corporate jobs.

KaptenKrusty · 08/11/2019 14:14

£1300 a month (London Zone 3)

Under £300 per month mortgage for 3 bed, smallish terrace house with big garden. Yorkshire.

MustardScreams · 08/11/2019 14:31

£220pm for a 2 bed 2 bath terrace. My parents gave me a huge deposit though.

MustardScreams · 08/11/2019 14:32

Oh I’m in Norfolk.

SillyUnMurphy · 08/11/2019 14:37

£700 border of London (Herts) two bed semi. We had a largish deposit.

bottleofbeer · 08/11/2019 14:45

211 three bed terrace.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/11/2019 14:48

£2,250
London, flat in zone 3

Popcornfan2 · 08/11/2019 15:22

£530.

As well as mortgage increase you have to factor in the increase in bills. I would say I pay an extra £100 a month paying the same household bills. Possibly a bit more.

carly2803 · 08/11/2019 15:22

280 - 3 bed big and older house, garden.

I have zero plans for upping it.

Pilchardsky · 08/11/2019 17:53

Gindaddy - why is it amusing for people to be financially prudent? We choose to live in a modest house (4 bed detached new build in the north) and pay it off early rather than overstretch and buy a mansion that would have us constantly fearing redundancy.

Comefromaway · 08/11/2019 17:59

We were paying £450 per month for a 3 bed detached in the midlands until we paid a lump sum off.

GlamourBear · 08/11/2019 18:29

£650 for a 3 bed detached in the East Midlands. We do overpay each month to get it paid off quicker, I'll be increasing this next year when my wages significantly increase. It'll make money a little tighter every month than if we didn't overpay but I'd rather be mortgage free at a much younger age!

Whiskeywithwater · 08/11/2019 19:06

£1650 for a 5 bed in Essex .. 15 years left to pay

Espoleta · 08/11/2019 19:10

£2400. 3 bed flat in zone 1 London.
Need to upgrade to 4 bed but can’t afford it in our current are :(

Justapatchofgrass · 08/11/2019 19:18

Such small mortgages

We pay £4003 a month- in yorkshire. Mortgage was originally £500,000

SuperMumTum · 08/11/2019 19:20

£270 on a 3 bed terrace in the SW. But I have a decent amount of equity and still got 25 years to go. I figured that having more cash each month to spend on the kids, holidays etc was better than breaking my ass to get mortgage free early.

Thehop · 08/11/2019 19:20

£380 a month
