Wondering how much people pay per month for their mortgage...

We currently have our house on the market, looking to move to a new build property nearby. New mortgage has been quoted as being £805 per month. That's more than we are currently paying but actually less than I thought. It's a bigger property and to move up a size the prices go up considerably around here. We aren't well off, don't have a fat pot of savings or equity in the house so, as I see it, that cost is about what we expected. We know of lots of people with mortgages more than that.

A friend asked the other day what it is likely to cost per month and commented it was a lot of money. So, out of interest, I'm wondering what people are generally paying for their mortgages???

£2,500

DesMartinsPetCat · 08/11/2019 11:42

£1,900/month. That’s for a small two-bed Confused

Looking at moving soonish and mortgage will likely be upwards of £3,200.

DearTeddyRobinson · 08/11/2019 11:43

£2k. 5 bed in Zone 3. 18 years left. Agh.

SallyWD · 08/11/2019 11:44

We're supposed to pay £600 a month but usually pay about £900 to pay it off more quickly.

Celebelly · 08/11/2019 11:44

£700 for detached four-bed

£495 for my maisonette that I now rent out

NickMyLipple · 08/11/2019 11:45

Ours is £1400. We are a young couple in the south east.

maddening · 08/11/2019 12:23

We were paying £550 in a 2 bed in a crap location in Cheshire,
We sold for £142k and bought a £375k 5 bed in a nicer location in Cheshire and pay £1200 per month.
Our combined income is about £82k.

We've just bought our first house, £425 for a 4 bed 2 bathroom with a 10% deposit. We were previously renting a grim 2 bed hutch on a grim estate for £475 :( the relief is unreal. We're in the North East

asnugglysnerd · 08/11/2019 12:33

We are in the South West and pay £850 for a 4 bed detached.

Youngatheart00 · 08/11/2019 12:34

£1900 in a pretty rubbish area of London I’d rather not be in!

INeedaBiggerBoat · 08/11/2019 12:38

£1350 for 3 bed semi in East Anglia
£750 BTL for 3 bed flat in London zone 3

dottiedodah · 08/11/2019 12:39

I think if you look at it over 30 years then it will seem good value as it would cost much more to rent .It is still a sound investment for the future of your family .FWIW I think its about average really .

JollyAndBright · 08/11/2019 12:42

Ours was £560 a month for our three bed semi but we’ve paid the mortgage off early so put the money into savings instead.

userxx · 08/11/2019 12:51

£191 :) To be fair its a small house and I'm in the north, lovely area. I have no idea how people down south manage it.

Pilchardsky · 08/11/2019 12:53

£900 but we overpay by the same amount.

ActualHornist · 08/11/2019 12:54

£275 a month.

ChileConCarne · 08/11/2019 12:54

£750 for a 4 bed detached. Which is the same as we were paying in rent for our first ever 1 bed flat in 2006!
We’ve just moved from a 2 bed terraced house where our mortgage was £500 a month. The jump up has disturbed me, even though it’s still very affordable.

GinDaddy · 08/11/2019 12:57

Loving the ones where people say "I pay £1000 but I overpay the same amount" or "I pay £800 which is 9% of our takehome pay"

Sammy867 · 08/11/2019 12:58

We pay £610 a Month with 20 years left. It’s a 3 bedroom semi. Ours is actually about 10% of our take home pay so we overpay

GinDaddy · 08/11/2019 12:58

P.S No jealousy here whatsoever, am fortunate to be comfortable, just amused by the additional context merchants

Likethebattle · 08/11/2019 13:05

£640 on three bedroom townhouse in Scotland.

JorisBonson · 08/11/2019 13:27

£1150, 2 bed terrace in the burbs in London. Only 24 years to go 🙄

Widowodiw · 08/11/2019 13:30

Mine is 45% if my income!! Only this
Any because my husband died and my income obviously took a nose dive. Now the bastard back won’t let me extend the term so I can get payments down.

titnomatani · 08/11/2019 13:30

£1600 in Greater London.

20viona · 08/11/2019 13:36
