I’ve just listened to prince singing nothing compares 2 u. I love prince but that was horrific!

Yes to pp who said saturdays doing just can’t get enough and a1 doing take on me.

SpeckofStardust · 01/06/2019 14:22

Whitney Houston’s power ballad version of I-ee-Iiiii-ee-Iii will always love You-ooo-Oo - aaargh!

*Metallica’s entire album of covers Garage Inc.

Any Ozzy Sabbath song sung by *Dio

*Muse - Feelin’ Good

*Massive fan of all these artists but come on guys, some things are sacred.

Any Queen cover - no exceptions!

A cover of Comfortably Numb I heard on the radio in the back of taxi one time, don’t know who did it but it was really really really bad.

CaptainMarVell · 01/06/2019 14:24

The Glee version of Don't Stop Believin'. Thankfully the overplaying of that monstrosity seems to have died off now and I can go back to enjoying the original.

AftonGlen · 01/06/2019 14:25

Girls Aloud singing 'I'll Stand By You' was bloody awful, another vote for The Corrs and 'Dreams'- I'm cringing that the 12 year old me had their album Confused

Also heard a cover of The Supremes 'You just keep me hanging on'- don't know who was singing but was an anihilation

Ameanstreakamilewide · 01/06/2019 14:26

KD Lang's version of Hallelujah is gorgeous, but that woman could sing the phone book and I'd love it.
I genuinely think her voice is perfect; a lot like Karen Carpenter's.

AuntieMarys · 01/06/2019 14:30

samcro love Disturbed's version.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/06/2019 14:32

Speck the Comfortably Numb cover was possibly Scissor Sisters.

Crossed with Staying Alive... weird

Drogosnextwife · 01/06/2019 14:33

Every cover I've ever hear is absolute shite. Radio 1's live lounge is fucking awful. I have yet to here anything good come out of it.

species5618 · 01/06/2019 14:45

Ihopeyourcakeisshit I think The Running Up That Hill cover was by Placebo and I much prefer it to Kate's version - but I'm not really a Kate fan to be honest.
S & G's original of Sound of Silence is an all time great but Disturbed's cover is equally fab, which shows some covers are worth it.
There's a Youtube video of Disturbed's live performance featuring Myles Kennedy.

Yabbers · 01/06/2019 14:45

Cher should never have gone Walking in Memphis.

SpeckofStardust · 01/06/2019 15:12

Thank you Curious, but please don’t be offended if I don’t click, hearing it once was bad enough!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/06/2019 15:58

Smile You're not wrong there Speck

I have to admit to you all that this thread has sent me back to an old favourite, Nouvelle Vague. Their covers are, erm, sublime and/or ridiculous. Some of them take a while to recognise

IceIceCoffee · 01/06/2019 19:14

Marcus Colin’s seven nation army
Matt cardle many of horror.

Both awful

Buddytheelf85 · 01/06/2019 19:29

Ellie Goulding’s cover of Your Song.
Girls Aloud’s covers of Walk This Way and I’ll Stand by You.
Anyone who has covered Unchained Melody.

rareappearance · 01/06/2019 19:32

Ice. I was just coming on to say Matt x-factor and his desecration of Many of Horror

It was so dumbed down they changed the title too

Hecateh · 01/06/2019 20:17

Hallelujah by Leona
My daughter 'That's awful. The original is much better'
Me 'I didn't know you liked Leonard Cohen;
He 'Huh?'
Being fair Jeff Buckley's version is OK but nothing beats the original.

Listened to Disturb's version of Sound of Silence under protest. I still love the original - 6 S&G albums and they were the theme to my teenage years BUT I ended up nearly in tears with Disturb.

I still love the original but ...

Serenity45 · 01/06/2019 20:48

Try listening to this driving in Ireland...their version of This Ole House is a particular highlight Grin

covers that should never had been done
MetalMidget · 01/06/2019 21:00

The All Saints version of Under the Bridge was fucking terrible. I'm not convinced they actually knew what they were singing about with that one.

They didn't, I remember an interview at the time where one of them described it as something like, "a really beautiful love song".

Eeeeeeeesh. Same goes for Leona Lewis' cover of Hurt.

Britney's cover of I Love Rock and Roll was also an abomination.

Figgygal · 01/06/2019 21:01

Ronan keatings cover of iris by the googoo dolls was horrendous

Figgygal · 01/06/2019 21:02

Agree re: disturbs sound of silence it's amazingly powerful

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/06/2019 21:06

Pascha agreed! I much prefer the Zutons' original.

MushroomTree · 01/06/2019 21:07

KatherineJaneway I totally agree with you. I have to turn it off if I hear it!

Member984815 · 02/06/2019 10:57

Ronan keatings cover of Iris was horrific I agree, I once had to ring a government agency and they had more than words covered by Ronan as their hold music it was 20 mins of torture on a loop for me I just hung up at that point because I couldn't take anymore which was probably the reason they have it .
