Am I just being too cheap and need to go somewhere more expensive?

I’m completely sick of having to change three beds and fiddle around with bloody buttons; or even worse some ridiculous flap system

I bought a new duvet set from Amazon recently and it has a zip along the bottom. A zip! Game changer.

moonrises · 29/05/2019 18:08

I think our Wilkinson and Matalan ones have poppers.

Celebelly · 29/05/2019 18:08

Aren't poppers usually on cheaper duvet covers? Certainly my more expensive ones are all buttons or ties, versus poppers on the cheapo ones for the dog's bed!

onanothertrain · 29/05/2019 18:08

I recently bought one from asda with poppers

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/05/2019 18:10

I was going to say Asda too. Mine have them.

NoBaggyPants · 29/05/2019 18:11

My Wilko one has poppers. Far better quality than ones I've paid ten times as much for.

YoThePussy · 29/05/2019 18:11

Buttons to fasten duvets are the work of the devil. Bring back poppers even if I kick everything to shit when I am in bed whatever is used.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 29/05/2019 18:12

Last one i bought had a zip!

TheClitterati · 29/05/2019 18:13

they have all moved to ASDA.

Its the cheapies that have poppers.

TheClitterati · 29/05/2019 18:14

Shake I had a gorgeous Muji one with a zip - sadly demised now. I do miss it.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 29/05/2019 18:14

The most recent duvet cover I’ve seen with poppers are dd’s Cot bed set.

I hate poppers- they unpop if you’re a wriggly sleeper and can sometimes go a bit wonky from the heat of the tumble drier so they don’t click together properly anymore.

TaytosNTizer · 29/05/2019 18:14

Asda here, too.

DH and I have decided we are done with posh bedsers with stupid fiddly buttons. Poppers (and easycare, no-iron material) all the way. El Cheapo!

MissMary0fSweden · 29/05/2019 18:14

My zip ones are amazing, and get this- on the pillowcases, the zip goes lengthways

pigsDOfly · 29/05/2019 18:16

I also get irritated by all the buttons, but the poppers can work loose and fall out over a period of time and then you're left with half a popper and a gap.

Likewise zips - I've also, many years ago had one with a zip - but if that breaks you can't do the duvet up at all.

At least if a button comes off you can sew it back on again or even replace it with a different button if the original one disappears into the recesses of the washing machine.

CastleCrasher · 29/05/2019 18:16

Our cheap ones are all poppers, expensive all buttons. I'm Envy at zips - so much better!!!

nothingwittyhere · 29/05/2019 18:16

I wish duvets had to be labelled with the manufacturer's chosen fasteners. Buttons are the work of the devil (and especially bad if you're at all disabled) but they seem to have some stupid sort of fashionability which makes them difficult to avoid. You would have thought they'd be more expensive to manufacture. Angry

Waveysnail · 29/05/2019 18:16

My posh next duvet covers (that I brought in the sale as they are way too much normally) have buttons and I curse them. Much prefer my lovely pure cotton cheap ass duvet with poppers

Binglebong · 29/05/2019 18:17

I love buttons! I find poppers warp if they are right to start with and are far more likely to come undone.

I'd hate a zip though - too scratchy!

pigsDOfly · 29/05/2019 18:19

Not sure I'd want zips in my pillow cases. Wouldn't they be a bit diggy.

Celebelly · 29/05/2019 18:19

Yeah I like poppers when changing sheets but they always come undone when they're on the bed Sad whereas the buttons are a pain but they tend to stay fastened.

MorganKitten · 29/05/2019 18:19

Asda, Argos, Primark - all have poppers

Sosayi · 29/05/2019 18:21

I bought this one on amazon and it has a zip amazing it’s changed my life
Can’t link sorry
Sonia Moer Premium Soft Duvet Cover Set (Superking Cambridge Nights)!

Sosayi · 29/05/2019 18:23

And if you google duvets with zips you can get loads on amazon

Zips are the way to go

Cornettoninja · 29/05/2019 18:25

Aaarrrggghhh!

So even though I’m a cheap arse I’m still picking duvet sets with buttons??? Honestly I frequent all of the mentioned shops and haven’t had duvet cover in years that has poppers!

Bloody hell AngryGrin

By the way, some times you can fix a popper with a well aimed hammer. 50/50 whether it fixes it though.

I bought a lovely duvet cover from Sainsbury's once to discover it was a million and one little the things you had to make into bows Hmm if you missed one you'd have to undo and re do the lot!!

Since then I have always checked the fastenings.
