Am I just being too cheap and need to go somewhere more expensive?

I’m completely sick of having to change three beds and fiddle around with bloody buttons; or even worse some ridiculous flap system

the tie

MintCassis · 29/05/2019 18:27

Our favourite one from IKEA has a zipper which is great! It’s super soft too so I’m hoping to get a few more.

I bought 100% cotton duvet covers from Lidl recently with ZIPS. Such a game changer.

Generally the more pricey, the fancier the fastenings. I.e some nicer sets have actual buttons. But zips are my fave by far.

Also, H&M smaller (maybe only kids) bedding has little gaps in the top corners so you can pull the duvet corners through and shake. I would imagine with the purpose of helping kids to change their beds- genius.

NannyR · 29/05/2019 18:28

My Ikea one has a zip too, such a good idea.

Cornettoninja · 29/05/2019 18:31

@sosayi thanks for that - it’s a decent price for the king size too. I couldn’t spot in the description about the fastening though - it’s a conspiracy!

My Ikea one has a zip too, zips all the way! It’s also softer, and more comfortable, that my M&S and JL ones.
I may go back and buy a few more! It’s not as pretty though.

Sallyseagull · 29/05/2019 19:19

I recently bought from Dunelm and it has poppers.

A zip is definitely a game changer!

IndianaMoleWoman · 29/05/2019 19:21

Every last one of them melted in my dryer. Sorry.

Nat6999 · 29/05/2019 19:22

I put Velcro on mine when the poppers drop off, they never come undone.

GarthFunkel · 29/05/2019 19:23

Poppers melt in tumble dryers.
Buttons fall off in tumble dryers.

I want a zip now.

Teddybear45 · 29/05/2019 19:25

Poppers are on the cheap duvets. Primark do some good ones.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 29/05/2019 19:25

celebelly some of us are happy to go cheap on duvets

ThomasHardyPerennial · 29/05/2019 19:29

The ones I have from Ikea all have poppers. Are they phasing them out?

Some of my duvet covers are cheap and they have buttons.

Alsohuman · 29/05/2019 19:35

Poppers are awful, they melt in the tumble dryer and don’t work any more. Buttons all the way for me.

RogueV · 29/05/2019 19:37

I have a Euro one (Vertbaudet) and not a clue why there are big flap things at the bottom- anyone else? Confused

stella1know · 29/05/2019 19:38

Game changer: the h&m ones have small slits at the top where you can put your hands through to pull the duvet up when shaking.

Cornettoninja · 29/05/2019 19:53

I’m considering putting my own Velcro fasteners on now.... seems like the quickest, dryer proof way of dealing with duvets. Or investing in blankets and eiderdowns.

Yes I've noticed this. The bloody buttons break too so you end up trying to shove 2 half buttons through the hole.
I need new bedding. Can you search by poppers?

gobbin · 29/05/2019 20:02

I had a zipped duvet from IKEA that was supersoft. It was also absolutely bloody roasting as it was some hideous man made fibre. It went in the recycling, sadly.

A fabulous concept, poorly executed. Now, if they’d put a zip on my IKEA 100% cotton pretty duvet it might get used more than for occasional visitors. It has fabric covered buttons, which are the work of the devil.

Keepaddingpets · 29/05/2019 20:09

@ILoveAllRainbowsx What???? Where do you get those from???

But what if ?! Shock

Notreallyhavingitall · 29/05/2019 20:19

While we're on the subject. My DH has an annoying habit of tugging the duvet up and exposing my feet. I solved this a year or so ago when I was struck with the inspiration to fasten the duvet around the horizontal metal frame at the bottom of our bed. I do this every time I change the duvet, and only on my side. He can expose his own feet all he likes. Wink
