Just that really ...

As obviously it has been used today and it’s grossed me out.

This old chestnut again. There was almost exactly the same thread about a month ago. Only on MN would people think it reasonable to refuse viewers of your house permission to use the toilet.

ilovesooty · 28/05/2019 18:17

I doubt normal people are as peculiar about others using their toilet as some of the people on Mumsnet.

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2019 18:18

Why on earth would someone want to use the toilet on a house viewing?

Because they need to piss?

Because there was a toilet in the house that was made for pissing in Confused

RedDogsBeg · 28/05/2019 18:19

You must know some seriously weird men Honeybee85 none of the ones I know who pee standing up make the toilet untidy. However, not only do you not like them peeing standing up you don't like the thought of sitting on a toilet seat where an unknown bottom has been - as others have said precious and damn odd.

OP you'd better don a hazmat suit and bleach the living daylights out of the toilet that was used as a toilet, it's only acceptable MN solution.

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2019 18:19

To all the piss horrified MNetters

How do you feel about children using your toilets?

cranstonmanor · 28/05/2019 18:20

As obviously it has been used today and it’s grossed me out.

Confused but what do you use then when you need to poop or piss?

One of the Phil and Kirsty type shows says close the blinds. It’s either cause the view is undesirable or to keep the attention in the room, or for a big reveal of the garden. Or something. It’s a thing though. Like closing the doors and shoving the viewers through first so they can own the room.

cranstonmanor · 28/05/2019 18:21

And what do you do when you need to go and you are not home?

Fuzzyend · 28/05/2019 18:21

@Honeybee85 - eh? Surely the vast majority of men do not require someone to clean up their urine?! I have had many, many men pee in my house, I have never asked any to sit down to do it, but I sure as hell don't need to wipe up their urine afterwards.

KennDodd · 28/05/2019 18:21

Why, does your toilet not work and you don't want them to know?

Roussette · 28/05/2019 18:22

Why on earth would someone want to use the toilet on a house viewing?

Because they've driven a long way to view your home which you are hoping to sell? Why on earth not? Toilets are there for a purpose. What do you think you're going to catch??

I do wonder how some people cope with life, I really do

Honeybee85 · 28/05/2019 18:22

RedDogsBeg, I am entitled to have my standards of hygiene in my own house. I think that isnt ‘ damn odd and precious’.

You can disagree with me and have different standards but no reason to judge just because you think differently. Honestly that is what I find ‘ damn odd and precious’!

ilovesooty · 28/05/2019 18:23

I'm surprised some of the weird posters can bring themselves to move house without replacing the toilet before moving in. After all, the toilet in your new house has had other people's bottoms on it.

givemesteel · 28/05/2019 18:24

Most people view a load of houses that are all pretty similar. If I was not able to use your loo at a viewing I would immediately assume I was going to deal with a cantankerous old bat who was going to be difficult at every stage and have removed every light bulb for when I move in.

I wouldn't be choosing your house out of several similar ones.

Honeybee85 · 28/05/2019 18:24

ilovesooty, dont you buy a new toilet seat when you move into a new home? I do.

AnnieMay100 · 28/05/2019 18:24

I’m confused by some of these replies, it’s gross for a stranger to walk into another strangers house and leave evidence of their toilet needs. Fair enough test the plumbing but op says she could see they had used the toilet. Would you open your house as a public toilet for random passerby if they were desperate? Unlikely. I find it cheeky personally. Yes I’ve sold houses and been to viewings and no I wouldn’t use their toilet, I don’t know them and they don’t know me.

Fuzzyend · 28/05/2019 18:25

So if people allow men to stand up to urinate then they have slovenly hygiene standards.

Oh good grief......

vincettenoir · 28/05/2019 18:25

YNBU I think it is the norm. Although a bit uptight imho.

DeadButDelicious · 28/05/2019 18:26

They. Left. The. Seat. Up.

Oh the humanity! Shock

MrsEricBana · 28/05/2019 18:26

Erm right. Yabvvu.

Terramirabilis · 28/05/2019 18:27

@Sooty personally I replace the entire bathroom in case a germ is lurking somewhere. You can't be too careful.

Roussette · 28/05/2019 18:27

She could only see they had used the toilet because they left the seat up and maybe they'd driven a long way?

Why is it gross for a toilet to be used as a toilet? I offer people tea, they can use the bathroom, I'm welcoming in my own home and don't treat other human beings like the germ riddled spawn of satan

Trafalger · 28/05/2019 18:28

So someone who could be spending a couple of hundred thousand pounds on a property should do so without trying any of the services or checking the state of the place? You would of hated me, I turn on all the taps, I check the pressure from the shower, I flush the loo, I check the boiler kicks in (if a combi) when using the taps for hot water. I have even been known to open all the windows to check they actually open (been stung a good one on that before!). This is the biggest purchase most of us will make. You need to treat it as a business transaction. Not that someone has permanently scarred your house by taking a piss in the place it was designed to be taken. If they had pissed all over your blinds you would have an excuse to be annoyed. Cos they left your seat up you need to get off your princess throne.

TrixieFranklin · 28/05/2019 18:28

Lots of estate agents close blinds after viewings for your own security.
