To be angry about the Oritse Williams rape case?

He's been found not guilty today by a Jury.

So many people on twitter are saying 'name and shame the woman, she's lied' 'she deserves a prison sentence'. This is infuriating! Do these people not realise that 'not guilty' does not equate with innocent and it doesn't mean she's lied?

Is it unreasonable for me to be angry about this?

Graphista

Yes you did say boys and girls in one post. Just not the post that I quoted from.

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 21:09

@HelenaDove

Yes, she mentioned boys and girls but not from the post that I quoted from.

The quoted paragraph referred explicitly to consent being an issue for boys.

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 21:13

My posts being long don't mean you can't honestly acknowledge what I ACTUALLY said rather than misrepresenting what I said

And I didn't misrepresent what you said. I quoted what you said. What came before or after did not alter the meaning of what I quoted.

Graphista · 02/06/2019 22:22

It blatantly DID make a difference!

Lizzie48 · 03/06/2019 09:43

Young boys need to be taught consent, same as young girls, for safety reasons. They are also potential targets for pedophiles. They need to be taught that their bodies are their own, and to have the same respect for other people's bodies as well.

Judging by the stats, there are obviously far fewer men who are raped than women, but still i was surprised at how high they were. So men are far more at risk from other men than they are from a woman.

So yes, both sexes need to be taught about consent.

JLS Singer Oritse Williams’ Home Burns Down In Suspected Arson Attack
The incident comes just days after he was acquitted of rape

DecomposingComposers · 05/06/2019 16:15

That's terrible. What if someone had been inside?

HelenaDove · 05/06/2019 16:18

Well yes. There could have been someone like a caretaker staying there.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 05/06/2019 17:55

Shock Christ! Thank god no one was in it!

BigRedLondonBus · 05/06/2019 19:06

Just seen this on the news. Terrible. And people say rape allegations don’t ruin people’s lives. Mud sticks

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 05/06/2019 19:28

So what is your solution @BigRedLondonBus? Should we just stop investigating rape allegations all together just in case?

BigRedLondonBus · 05/06/2019 19:31

Did I say that? If you read a few pages back people have said false accusations don’t ruin lives.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 05/06/2019 20:14

And people say rape allegations don’t ruin people’s lives

If it’s a legitimate allegation the statistics show it’s very unlikely the accused will have their life ruined. Most wont even get to court.

If you read a few pages back people have said false accusations don’t ruin lives.

You have said “rape allegations” and now you are saying “false allegations”. Those aren’t the same thing. Can you clarify which one you mean?

There is also no evidence that the accuser in this case made a false allegation.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 05/06/2019 20:34

It's disgusting. I feel for him. I completely disagree with name and shame before trial. Yeah his life may not be ruined but a suspect he'll not get being scarred.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 05/06/2019 20:35

*I suspect he will be scarred

QueenOfTheTofuTree · 05/06/2019 21:35

I'm sure she will be pretty scarred too...

Graphista · 05/06/2019 23:06

I don't agree with vigilante actions especially those likely to harm innocents.

This absolutely shouldn't have happened, if indeed it is arson and was an act of vigilantism.

But I suspect if so it's happened because people are fed up and frustrated with how rape allegations are being dealt with (or rather not) by the so called justice system.

With the lack of convictions despite clear evidence of guilt.

But no this is unacceptable if it was arson and if it was in response to the rape case.

It's possible - given it was in a "state of disrepair" - that it was accidental or started by maybe squatters or something.

Singlenotsingle · 05/06/2019 23:11

It's a remarkable coincidence though, if it was accidental or started by squatters. I don't think he lived there. It looked almost derelict.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 05/06/2019 23:47

I wonder if the case has left Oritse with financial problems. Insurance job is a possibility too.

Graphista · 05/06/2019 23:50

Interesting point Maxi

ILoveMaxiBondi · 05/06/2019 23:57

The trial outcome would provide a very convenient “motive”. On the news today every single report of the fire mentioned that he had just been cleared of rape. Making a connection between the two things. Obviously anyone hearing those reports will firstly think of vigilante action.

HelenaDove · 06/06/2019 00:25

Hmm vigilante action for a rape that was deemed didnt happen.

Seem to remember that was a storyline on Corrie just before i stopped watching it involving Carla.

"oh no im not having that You cant have it both ways and say it was for the rape when you the courts etc say it didnt happen"

I immediately thought of this storyline when i saw this news this morning.

Alicewond · 06/06/2019 04:40

Whatever you believe his life is now ruined. Innocent until proven guilty has failed, lots despite the innocent verdict find him guilty. He’ll never move past this.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 06/06/2019 06:13

Oh that’s horrible
His house I mean

It’s all horrible

What can we take from this sorry debacle ?

DecomposingComposers · 06/06/2019 07:58

Whatever anyone thinks of the verdict the fact is that he has been found not guilty.

Yet on this thread not only are people determined to ignore that verdict but are now suspecting him of arson and insurance fraud.

It's not difficult to see why some posters are saying that his life is ruined is it?
