Sparkling water

I love the stuff. I have it on it's own, with orange juice, with cordial etc. I've stopped buying it as I can't deal with all the plastic. It's awful.

Can anyone offer a non plastic solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Perrier and bardot do it in glass I think. What about buying a Soda Stream, would that work. I love it too.

chemenger · 23/05/2019 18:24

Soda stream.

thepurple · 23/05/2019 18:26

Does soda stream water taste the same? I've heard mixed reviews but definitely willing to buy one if it's decent!

Soda stream. Switched last year, find it great

RNBrie · 23/05/2019 18:31

Soda stream water just tastes like fizzy tap water. Its totally fine as long as you like the way your tap water tastes.

I wouldn't be without one now, we all drink more water, and there is no waste. Do the cylinder exchange program to recycle the gas cylinders and it's all guilt free too.

chemenger · 23/05/2019 18:32

It doesn’t taste the same (I suppose because the water is not the same) you get used to it. It’s fine with a flavouring, though, and you can make it more or less fizzy to your own taste. We don’t like any of the proper soda stream flavours, we just use squash, or fruit juice, or lemon or lime slices.

Imoen · 23/05/2019 18:33

Nope.

Hell will freeze over before I give up sparkling water.

I just recycle the bottles

Piglet89 · 23/05/2019 18:33

Soda stream. It’s a game-changer. But obviously you do have to pay for new carbon dioxide gas cylinders. £14.99 each from Argos. But they last 60 “goes” of gas for about a 700ml bottle.

alwayscoffee · 23/05/2019 18:36

I love sparkling water - if I could only drink one thing for the rest of my life it would be sparkling water.

I switched to soda stream about 2 years ago and I love it. The water tastes like a lot of the branded sparkling water but that might be because I live in an area with bland tap water. If you live in a hard water area you might want to get a water filter jug and a soda stream but if you are happy with the local tap water you’ll be fine with the soda stream. I’ve never flavoured the water.

DropZoneOne · 23/05/2019 18:37

Another vote for sodastream!

And the Tetley cold infusions if you like flavoured water but not sugar/sweetener - they taste like fruit not tea.

reluctantbrit · 23/05/2019 18:39

We recently bought an Aarke carbonator as I don't buy sodastream. I drink it with apple juice, DD and DH pure with lemon slices. It is the taste of tap water, the carbonation doesnt' change the taste as such. I find though I can drink it at room temperature while I wouldn't touch tap water at room temperature.

It is quite expensive to upfront but we think it is worth it. And in the week we have it now I threw away just one plastic bottle, the one which was open when the carbonator arrived.

If only I could get decent fresh juice in glass bottles.

MissCharleyP · 23/05/2019 18:42

reluctantbrit Have you tried Pago juices? They’re lovely and in glass bottles, not always very easily available but worth the search!

InACheeseAndPickle · 23/05/2019 18:47

I love my soda stream. Fizzy water and elderflower cordial and ice is the best!

SilverySurfer · 23/05/2019 18:53

I don't drink tea or coffee or juices/cordials, just carbonated water (and alcohol). The reason I won't buy a sodastream is because I don't drink tap water and if I'm buying bottled water it may as well be carbonated.

reluctantbrit · 23/05/2019 18:55

MissCharley P - I saw them in restaurants before but found all of them were made from concentrated juice. We prefer fresh but it is worth double checking.

Littleheart5 · 23/05/2019 18:57

Soda stream is delicious! So crisp and right amount of fizziness!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/05/2019 18:58

Definitely soda stream!! Got one for my bday for the same reason - good thinking DH! . If you have any big bottles left over, you can turn them into ecobricks.

blackteasplease · 23/05/2019 18:58

Just be aware that fizz of any kind is bad for your teeth!

tiredvommachine · 23/05/2019 19:00

I use my soda stream every day for fizzy water, love it!

toomuchfaster · 23/05/2019 19:01

Wow - I did not realise how expensive soda streams are! That's a lot of bottles of water as the ones I buy are 45p each. I have just given it up at the moment.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 23/05/2019 19:03

I get this from Ocado
But it is out of stock at the moment.
It’s costs more than in plastic bottles but I try very hard not to buy plastic bottles.

Does the Aarke have a gas bottle exchange system, reluctantbrit?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/05/2019 19:14

If you have a soda stream the canisters are only full price the first time the approx half price when you part ex the old canister for a new one. Asda do it as well as other places.

Hello. Mental for the fizz here too. I buy San Pellegrino in glass bottles in bulk at Costco. I buy boxes of tinned Perrier for out and about. I do succumb to plastic too often. I'm really addicted and dread to think how much I spend.
