He really wants to see it at the cinema...how do I tell him that he can't?

I'm taking ds1 who is 9 but not ds2 - he's not bothered so not an issue. I think that certificates have changed greatly over the years. My sister gave me a copy of ghostbusters which is a U and there is no way I'd let my ds's see it. Ghosts giving blow job etc. And it's a U!!!

its the 'adrenaline-soaked' levels that would seriously give me pause for thought

but again that's me .. your kids your decision

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/07/2007 16:34

Why was I not surprised to see that Michael (Pearl Harbor) Bay directed this film?. With him at the helm it will be very loud and full of CGI.

And its 2 hours and 24 minutes long as well!!

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 16:35

well actually its the fact that experts have viewed it in line with up-to-date psychological and developmental advice and judged it suitable in general for those aged 12 or over .. I strongly believe that the 'A' bit is for those within a year or maybe 2 of that age banding .. not an open invitation for a small child to go

cornsilk · 20/07/2007 16:35

When I was a kid there were war films on every weekend in the day. No-one bothered than about seeing people getting blown up.

meandmyflyingmachine · 20/07/2007 16:37

Gawd. Ds is 6, watches it on the telly, plays with the toys etc and there is NO WAY he is seeing it.

In fact, he doesn't know there is a film about it...

Billy and Mandy is particularly gross.

OrmIrian · 20/07/2007 16:41

Hmm..... well reading the reviews I think I'll take 10 yr old DS#1 on his own then .

emj23 · 20/07/2007 16:42

It is gross, but it's quite funny

cornsilk · 20/07/2007 16:42

Omirian - you sound like a transformer yourself!

OrmIrian · 20/07/2007 16:46

Do I?

DS#1 has never been into transformers that much apart from one comic book and a few second hand models.

cornsilk · 20/07/2007 16:48

Sorry - ds1 has loads of them. Has rubbed off on me.

My ds had transformers top trumps . He isn't scared of the pictures. If he were to see the robots terrorising recognisably human figures, it might be different.

StressedEric · 20/07/2007 17:10

I really think it is wrong to let little children( 3-5) see 12a films. What is unacceptable about them not knowing about these films, therefore not asking. Saying NO, you are too young, is allowed, in fact, imho, its your role as a parent to act as gatekeeper for your child, against violence and bloodshed. Even though it is made up violence, a 5 year old may not be able to rationalise that.
Don't help them get old beyond their years/ At 3-5 they should be seeing U films, or at the most PG, like Cars, Shrek, Nemo etc.

OrmIrian · 20/07/2007 17:15

I think that is probably right stressed. In fact I used to get quite irate about my eldest being shown films that we too old for him at other people's houses. Films that even now he's 10 I'd be a bit doubtful of.

I think that it gets a bit more complex when there are younger children. My eldest has DVDs that are 12A but the younger (4) has seen them - not all the way through but he might wander into the room while they are on.
