He really wants to see it at the cinema...how do I tell him that he can't?

Well I was a transformers crazy little girl 1st time - and it looks like it would terrify me. Mind you I don't have the dispossible income!!!

greensleeves · 20/07/2007 15:40

I think you're all barking. I wouldn't let a 5yo within ten miles of a violent, frightening film which clearly isn't aimed at young children. Why on earth is it a good idea to expose them to this sort of thing? Crazy IMO.

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 15:45

I'm with greeny .. but with less direct insults

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 15:45

arrgbgghhhhhh strike that it should read

I'm with greeny .. but with fewer direct insults

(oh the shame, the shame)

cazzybabs · 20/07/2007 15:47

We wonder why we have loss of childhood, more violence in society etc etc!!!!

There was a transformers cartoon movie in 1986 which was a U. I got it from ebay a few years ago for my ds, as he has always been transformers mad. I also got a really cool poster (cooler than the ones in the shops now!)

greensleeves · 20/07/2007 15:51

I don't wear pants.

Nobody mentioned psychotic 5yos, did they?

I'm saying that you are abdicating your responsibilities and being a lazy arse, taking a young child to see films which are quite obviously violent and completely inappropriate. It's idiocy of this nature which leads me to have more sympathy with "nanny state" type interventionism. Some people can't be trusted to make the most basic judgements

butterbeer · 20/07/2007 15:51

You might want to have the same number of insults, but make each insult less direct. Then your original phrasing would have been correct .

Pedantry also leads me to wonder about the practicalities of not letting a child within ten miles of the film. Even with the drop in numbers of local cinemas that's got to get tricky...

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 15:52

well if you've read cazzybabs post and are happy with it then its your decision

Personally I prefer to go with the guidance of the BBFC (I've done work with them in the past)

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 15:53

Butterbear ... I love you

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 15:54

oh arsepants

Butterbeer I love you

(who are you when you are un-pottered btw?)

HedTwigg · 20/07/2007 15:55

local libraries have the old transformers videos ... ours does anyway

cornsilk · 20/07/2007 16:04

They are really boring - you actually have to be a big transformers fan to sit through them. But better than nothing!

RedTartanLass · 20/07/2007 16:04

Slightly off track here, but I refused to let ds1 see Jurassic Park when he was 8, thought it was too scary!! However I made that decision after seeing the film myself.

If you can afford to (and can bare it!!) watch the film first then make your decision. You know you're own kids best!

BTW my ds1 is 22 now and still hasn't forgiven me!!

My 4yo BEGGED me to let him eat a whole ginger cake for lunch once.

I didn't say child abuse. I said lazy and irresponsible. And a teeny bit.....thick.

My DS (5) has been wanting to see this for a few months ever since he heard there was going to be a movie version, but I saw the trailer this week and I thought it looked too scary for him as well. Why would they make a film based on children's toys so unsuitable for them to watch?

I don't think it does look that scary. Transformers aren't really scary-not like Haryy Potter. How scary can it be?

Just take them Kerry - it's an action film at the end of the day. It's not a slasher movie.
