I have a DP free evening and the different routine means I've forgotten to feed myself... despite being the person who usually thinks about food constantly.

I need something now, but don't want to spend more than 5 mins preparing it and i want it to be utterly delicious. AIBU to think that this isn't possible? Help me, wise MNetters Grin

BrokenWing · 20/05/2019 21:41

Cheese and onion on toast
Poached eggs on toast
Cheesy beans on toast
phone chinese for beef in hot peking sauce

PtarmiganBiscuit · 20/05/2019 21:45

It’s always spaghetti carbonara. I’m a bit podgy.

Redcrayons · 20/05/2019 21:45

Poached eggs on toast is my go to quick meal. If I'm feeling a bit Delia I might chuck a couple of fish fingers under the grill.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 20/05/2019 21:49

enjoyingscience I think you were in my halls at uni! We literally all ate pasta, beans and cheese more nights than we didn’t! Plenty of black pepper and vinegar!

Waterlemon · 20/05/2019 21:50

I know you’ve already eaten but there are some good ideas I’ve jotted down.

My contribution-
Spaghetti with olive oil, chilli and garlic - prawns if I have any.
I warm the oil in a pan with the other ingredients whilst waiting for the spaghetti to cook. Then add some Parmesan and black pepper.

MrsSnafu · 20/05/2019 21:59

I am soooooo coming back to this thread!!
I don't cook but some of these look doable!Smile

Gwenhwyfar · 20/05/2019 22:00

"Pasta with butter, grated cheddar and parmesan, oregano and black pepper? "

No way can you make that in 5 minutes.

MrsSnafu · 20/05/2019 22:00

My offering is crisp sandwich with wine. Blush

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 20/05/2019 22:01

Some mouthwatering ideas on her. For next time:

  1. Cheese on toast.
  2. Cereal.

Both have the benefit of creating little or no washing up. If I can cope with some washing up, I make popcorn from scratch.

(No it's not proper food but who cares?)

thexandthey · 20/05/2019 22:02

Nuts!

HoppityChicken · 20/05/2019 22:04

Mashed up tuna and Philadelphia cheese, on toast, with a squeeze of lemon. Heaven!

rainbowscalling · 20/05/2019 22:13

@DorothyBastard I just googled nigellas marmite pasta and now it's all I can think of. Sounds amazing! Do you know if it reheats ok?

ReindeerTails · 20/05/2019 22:19

Supernoodles.

fishoutofwine · 20/05/2019 22:19

Loving this thread (and am taking note for lazy evenings). Another quick one - pasta and chuck a jar of sun dried tomatoes over it and throw in some prawns (the Sainsbury’s sunblush ones that come in a pack rather than a jar are perfect as the oil is tasty).

Tunnocks34 · 20/05/2019 22:19

I just ate a pack of Jaffa cakes.

Zero prep work but bloody gorgeous

Atalune · 20/05/2019 22:24

op it’s fast and delicious and I’m sorry about all the bloody typos!

MC ingredients....😳. It’s just fresh food!

One pack of coriander 89p, will last me for 4 meals
Avocados- 50p in Aldi- 2 portions
Halloumi- £2 will last for 6 portions
Olives- creators Greek style £2- will last for aaaaages, maybe 16 portions
Cherry toms- £90p would be 8 portions there
Flat breads- £1 for 6

So one flat bread would be......
Around £1/meal. I’d say that was great value actually.

pourmeanotherglass · 20/05/2019 22:30

Omelette is my go to for nights on my own because I can bung in whatever is in the fridge ( often have half a pepper/ courgette lying around with maybe spring onion, mushroom, cheese, etc). Also, the kids dont like omelette so I don't get to have it often.

pourmeanotherglass · 20/05/2019 22:34

Other fave option for night alone is to raid the freezer for random leftovers from when I've made something too big and frozen a portion. Microwave to defrost, maybe add in fresh veg or pasta/ rice if needed.

viques · 20/05/2019 22:34

Boiled egg and soldiers , lots of butter.

viques · 20/05/2019 22:42

Gnocchi, even from frozen it's 4 minutes max.

While they are cooking make sone sage butter, grate some Parmesan, wash some baby spinach , dress spinach with a bit of olive oil. Stir the drained gnocchi into the sage butter. Add Parmesan.

It's a proper meal in minutes. With salad .

If you haven't got gnocchi then a) ask yourself why not, b) use ready made fillled ravioli / tortellini from a supermarket, or your freezer.

Iamnotagoddess · 20/05/2019 22:43

Cereal
