To not move

I've been a tit and misfueled this morning. I feel like a tit. Petrol in a diesel 🤦‍♀️

Anyway I'm stuck at the garage until help comes, can't start the car obviously and I'm pregnant so can't push it. My breakdown service said they were coming, then 20 minutes later called back to say it'd be after 10 (and it's not even 8!) so I've called someone else, they'll now be 45 minutes.

Other drivers and the people in the garage keep having a go at me, I've put a note on the back of the car to explain I can't move, spoken to several. A man from the garage just came out to say people are complaining to him and I'll just have to start the car or push it and go- no offer of help though. He said if there was any diesel in the tank it'll mix so not a problem and that there's diesel in the lines so a drive won't do any harm. Both bollocks.

Aibu to not move? I can't push a big car on my own even when not pregnant and it's up hill, there's a note in the back window explaining for anyone behind me and plenty of space for them to get out. It's not ideal, but what else can I do? Is there something else I could be doing?

I agree you can move it - mine went 2 miles before diesel kicked in and I had no idea I’d made a mistake - moving a few feet won’t harm

codenameduchess · 20/05/2019 08:06

Direct from rac. I'm not starting it.

Personally I wouldn't move it, it's not worth the risk of circulating the fuel. I'd also point out you're pregnant so if they want the car moving they can push the damned thing themselves.

Stillinbedat10am · 20/05/2019 08:12

Petrol in a diesel can have more serious repercussions than diesel in a petrol so please don't start it or try to drive it. Either way this could be expensive but it will be far more expensive if the petrol travels further than the tank!
The only thing I can suggest is to see if you can throw yourself on the mercy of anyone strong looking who comes to the filling station and see if hey could push whilst your steer?

ThanosSavedMe · 20/05/2019 08:14

i wouldn't move it either. mistakes happen. You didn't do it on purpose

MRex · 20/05/2019 08:17

Don't move it nor start it. Others are welcome to push it while you steer if it's that important that you move. These things happen. You're pregnant, is there a hot drink dispenser? Snacks? Just relax and brazen it out, if others can't calm down let that be their own problem.

Greggers2017 · 20/05/2019 08:23

If not pregnant you can push it. I pushed a vectra when I did the same on my own.
Starting it and moving it slightly forward will also do no damage. You'll literally be moving feet.
Ask somebody to help you move it?

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/05/2019 08:27

If it's up hill one way, is it possible to roll it down the hill the other way out of the way - make sure you have your keys in and on the right setting and be prepared for the brakes and steering to need extra effort though.

Otherwise, YANBU. Is there a cafe nearby that you can hide in - leave your number at the garage in case the RAC come earlier than expected..

GreyhoundzRool · 20/05/2019 08:29

I wouldn’t move it either. They can wait - you’ve put a sign up ( have you got one of those warning triangles ? That might help) so I’m afraid they will just have to work around it.

codenameduchess · 20/05/2019 08:35

Advice is to not even do the half turn in the ignition as it primes the fuel pump and can cause damage (that I can't afford to fix!)
Going downhill would cause an actual problem as no one would be able to get in, I've tried pushing before alone and i can't do it so definitely wouldn't try pregnant. It's not even that busy, no que or anything.

The 2 men from the shop are glaring at me but won't help and are aware I'm pregnant and several people have had a go but none willing to help. about 15 minutes from help arriving now.

Fgs what is wrong with people?

ILoveEurovision · 20/05/2019 08:39

I wouldn't move it, but suggest they push it if they want to.

springgreensunshine · 20/05/2019 08:40

People are so intolerant.
I hope help arrives soon.
I once broke down right at a major junction at rush hour. I was mentioned on the major radio station travel reports. Everyone beeped their horns etc but no-one stopped to help me. I was so relieved to see the repair man.

snowdrop6 · 20/05/2019 08:48

What the hell is wrong with people ..no actually what’s wrong with men these days..why are they not helping you...

QuitMoaning · 20/05/2019 08:49

I am shocked that no one will help push it. It is not just that you are pregnant, cars are heavy. My OH would help push it in a heartbeat.

We once pulled over and blocked traffic whilst he helped an old lady move her car off the road. People were beeping and getting angry whereas if they had stopped and helped, it would have got the traffic moving very quickly. People are so selfish, the world would be so much better if everyone behaved courteously.

MyKingdomForBrie · 20/05/2019 08:52

Just ignore them and stay where you are, you'll only be another half hour ffs.

MRex · 20/05/2019 08:55

I hope you're having snacks and the repair man has arrived? If they haven't helped then they're knobs who deserve to have your car blocking the forecourt, so that's that.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/05/2019 08:57

Ignore ignore ignore.

I dont know why people react like this

PollyShelby · 20/05/2019 09:00

I wouldn't move and anyone who said anything would be getting The Look from me.

UnicornDust9 · 20/05/2019 09:03

I wouldn’t start it or move it either. It was an accident. Tough shit.

Bluntness100 · 20/05/2019 09:03

Don't move. But that's odd behaviour. My husband did this when I was in the car and the petrol station guys couldn't have been more helpful. Happens all the time apparently. Sadly though everyone and their dog had an opinion on it, particularly blokes, who wished to come up and give their unsolicited view on whether it could be moved or not. No aggression though from anyone.

bigbadbadger · 20/05/2019 09:04

Do not start it.

UnicornDust9 · 20/05/2019 09:04

And I wouldn’t be mad or have a go either.

I might read the sign and just carry on with my day!

StrongTea · 20/05/2019 09:07

Is it a big garage, like supermaket tesco or asda? Post on their facebook page or tweet about how unhelpful they have been.

JoJoSM2 · 20/05/2019 09:07

Just tell the staff to push it out of the way.
