AIBU To Sit differently?

I just sat cross legged on the floor, but with my right leg as the back leg and my left leg at the front, tucked under the right. IT FEELS SO WEIRD! I now realise I've spent my whole life doing it the other way round.

AIBU in thinking I should spend the next 45 years of my life sitting in this new style to balance out the previous 45? And what would I do for the third 45 years? Or should I start rotating legs on, say, a monthly basis? If so should I allow myself to freestyle sit on bank holidays?

I hope I'm not uneven in any way now. Should I ring the NHS hotline or the coastguard or somebody to check?

It's the same if you intertwine your fingers - my left thumb is always on top, if I do it with the right on top is feels So WRONG.

Mysterian · 18/05/2019 14:53

I just tried the finger thing. That was horrible.

Crossing arms. Right hand has to point up and left hand pointing down.
Left arm over and right arm under.

You are creating new neural pathways by doing this which is good for your brain (Disclaimer: I am not a doctor)

ThanosSavedMe · 18/05/2019 15:03

I love that you’re planning what to do in your 3rd 45 years!

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2019 15:03

BTW I think you should spend the years from 90 to 135 doing handstands. You have been upright for far too long. It's all about balance.

LadySainsburySeal · 18/05/2019 15:26

If I sat cross-legged I wouldn't be able to get up again!

Not without crawling along a bit and then using a door frame or cupboard to haul myself upright again Grin

Bodear · 18/05/2019 15:29

It’s taken me a LONG time just now to actually cross my arms the “wrong” way Shock

Mysterian · 18/05/2019 16:17

I'll be trying all these positions when in a safe place to do so. Currently in Cornwall though.

slash lover and MidsomerBurgers are you both right-handed as I've just tried the finger interlocking and folding my arms and I do them opposite to you both.

Janedoughnut · 18/05/2019 16:50

Oops meant to say I'm left handed.

pigsDOfly · 18/05/2019 16:56

I'm right handed and yes to the thumb thing, but I can cross my arms either way and feel comfortable, although right hand up is probably the default.

Haven't tried the cross legs as I'm sitting on a chair and can't be bothered to get off; will try it later.

agentdaisy · 18/05/2019 17:15

I'm left handed and cross my arms the same as midsomerburgers but if I intertwine my fingers it's always my right thumb on top. If I cross my arms the other way its ridiculously uncomfortable.

If I sit cross legged it's probably 50/50 as to which leg is at the back, I don't really have a preference.

humblesims · 18/05/2019 17:17

I cant wear my bag on the wrong shoulder either.

Confusedbeetle · 18/05/2019 17:18

Enjoy this as long as you can. At my age I cant sit cross legged. Even sitting on the floor invloves rolling on to all 4s to get up again

MidsomerBurgers · 18/05/2019 17:20

@Janedoughnut

Yes, I am mostly right handed but do a fair few things left handed. Definitely right-footed though.

DH left handed, but does it the opposite way. Thinks I'm bonkers wrong.

Needtobuildabridge · 18/05/2019 17:21

I've just spent 5 minutes crossing and uncrossing my legs, trying out both ways. AIBU to say that they feel equally right? 😮

Ps you're right about the interlocking fingers though-right thumb must be on top, I'm also a leftie!

ShimmeringIce · 18/05/2019 17:21

Which leg would you use for scooting, though? And which direction do you stir a cup of tea?
I do mine the wrong way for a right-hander, apparently!

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 18/05/2019 17:36

You are 45 and can sit cross legged on the floor. And get up again. WOW.

I am nearly 45 and wouldn't even want to try it.

But I do intertwine my fingers, cross my legs, fold my arms, hold hands with dh etc the same way each time, doing them the opposite/a different way feels wrong. But I also have my side of the bed, feels odd on the other side.

MidsomerBurgers · 18/05/2019 18:37

I'm 48 and frequently sit cross legged on the floor. Can't touch my toes though.

MidsomerBurgers · 18/05/2019 18:38

DH and I are both right thumb on top.

OkOkWhatsNext · 18/05/2019 19:06

Carrying a bag on the wrong shoulder is actually impossible. It just falls off my right shoulder!

motortroll · 18/05/2019 19:12

Your wrong way is my right way!

motortroll · 18/05/2019 19:12

And my right thumb is on top too.

FrancesFryer · 18/05/2019 19:57

I was just wondering, what makes Cornwall unsafe 🤔😲
