Younique and facebook

One fo my friends has recently started selling this stuff - Younique make-up.
On Facebook she has become this embodiment of positivity, lots of quotes, lots of photos. Then she does these videos about the product and her happy, happy life.
I know that in real life she doesn't have a happy, happy life and we (she and I) have talked previously about how other people's happy, happy, facebook can be damaging to mental health or hide mental health issues.
AIBU to think younique is like a cult and tell her to stop the pretending?

Leave her too it. My friend did it too. They earn shit money from it and it will soon pass.

You can’t tell some one what to post on their own SM

BSintolerant · 18/05/2019 09:14

Have you seen this? It’s an example of investigative journalism at its best: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p076n2hg

Younique is one of the MLMs featured. It’s a real eye-opener.

DannyWallace · 18/05/2019 09:16

Yup, Younique got one of my friends too.
Apparently it's half decent stuff...but I don't wear a lot of make up so have never bought it.

Livedandlearned · 18/05/2019 09:18

Younique have posted on YouTube their own argument re the bbc programme on MLMs. I haven't watched it as i hate younique.

LolaSmiles · 18/05/2019 09:19

Younique is a cult that hunts vulnerable women (usually those who have children, want a bit of cash for some treats and/or can't work lots of hours out the home for whatever reason).

They are groomed into believing that they can be a bossbabe and work from home and that they'll earn enough to go on a cruise reward trip to Mexico. They are lied to that they are starting their business when really they end up selling more to their downloads (recruits) than outside the company. They are told that their younique ladies are their friends and anyone who challenges how good the MLM is is just negative and wants to see them fail. It is designed so that you can only make money by scamming others to join. 99% of people lose money! But it is always presented as people who get out are simply negative and didn't want to work hard enough at rocking their business.

Have a look at Elle Beau and the anti MOM movement. They shine the light on how manipulative these movements are.

newjobnerves · 18/05/2019 09:19

Is it still around? I thought this died a death years ago, not seen anyone selling it in a long time.

goose1964 · 18/05/2019 09:19

Read this for an insider's point of view
ellebeaublog.com/

Oysterbabe · 18/05/2019 09:19

She'll give up soon enough when she realises she's spending more than she's making.

Delilah2019 · 18/05/2019 09:21

Read the Ellebeautyblog website that’s been posted - it’s about younique. Shows it off as an awful thing and that the make up is rubbish

flopsyandflim · 18/05/2019 09:24

Is the makeup actually any good though? I don’t wear a lot of makeup or know my stuff but looking at the younique pricing it seems like you can get more ‘high end’ sort of makeup from John Lewis for the same sort of money.

DuffBeer · 18/05/2019 09:25

The BBC documentary was good - it's basically network marketing/pyramid selling (as if we didn't know!)

It's a complete waste of time and money - nobody wants to spend £30 on a bloody mascara

Livedandlearned · 18/05/2019 09:28

@flopsyandflim in the documentary they have quotes from staff, or former staff on how much the product costs to make and how overpriced it is.

Livedandlearned · 18/05/2019 09:29

Sorry just reread your post. Apparently the foundation is ok but the eyeshadow is rubbish. The mascara looks awful!

BSintolerant · 18/05/2019 09:37

The mascara makes people look like they’ve glued pubes to their lashes - it’s bloody awful!

BAB0484 · 18/05/2019 22:04

Oh wow... I've been a Younique Presenter for almost 2 years now and I can assure you I make a really good income. The 'reporter' for the BBC was herself a presenter, as well as a few other network marketing plans... The whole documentary was so badly edited... I know as I was at some of those events!! It was biased...i suspect for her own reasons. Nobody makes you buy anything.. It's a choice! The mascara is £19...if you are charged £30 then that is wrong. We are no different to the make-up ladies in Boots, Harrods, Self ridges etc all who make commission by selling make-up to you... What's the difference? Younique does not prey on young mothers... A lot of my friends are working ladies that also do this, some are retired and some are stay at home Mum's. We all have a choice! What is the difference between Younique and Avon...or any other online seller... Regardless of the product???

Nicknacky · 18/05/2019 22:10

So how much do you earn a month and how many hours do you work?

I will never be convinced it’s not a scam.

LolaSmiles · 18/05/2019 22:12

It was only a matter of time before a member of the club turned up talking about how awesome it is.

BAB
99% of people lose money in MLM schemes such as Younique. Do you honestly believe you are the 1% who want to be a bossbabe enough that you'll rock your business? Or have you lost track of your spending to keep up your status at different levels each month? Or are you high enough in the pyramid that you've got lots of minions recruiting more minions and pushing them to invest in their kit, fake it til you make it etc that you're quite happy believing the nonsense?

You suspect people are editing views for their own reasons? Spoken like a true MLM bot. The response to any challenge or criticism of these companies is to have their bots trot out the same old ideas: that people are jealous of them because they hate their 9-5, they feel guilty because they're choosing not to be a bossbabe at home with the kids, anyone who has a negative story simply didn't try hard enough, didn't push products enough, didn't follow the social media rules and posted one post that was less than over-enthusiastically positive and their negativity killed their business, it's a world conspiracy full of people who are so negative and don't understand what an uplifting company these things are.

SwimmingKaren · 18/05/2019 22:13

I had a friend who got into this with a different company and I had to unfollow her in the end, the posts and videos etc were so transparent and unbearable and just... fake ??? Not even worded in the way she usually spoke, it’s as though something was automating her! And she was usually a lovely person, it was a shame. I don’t think she does it anymore so we can be friends again luckily. Grin

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 18/05/2019 22:13

You used their name OP! Their bloody PR team will be in overdrive right now Grin

DialANumber · 18/05/2019 22:17

I absolutely hate this stuff.

There is no transparency.

Everything is vague, hyperbolic and relentlessly 'bubbly'.

I block and avoid all MLMs but often no isn't an acceptable answer and I get repeated invitations to 'limited events' 'product launches' 'open house' etc etc.

I don't wear make up, so I will never be jnterested. Even people who do would struggle to get too excited about a mascara...

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 18/05/2019 22:20

I cringe when my Younique posts come up on Timehop. I stay well clear of MLM now!

popehilarious · 18/05/2019 22:20

The makeup is a mcguffin. It could be anything. It's an excuse to set up a 'network' where you 'recruit' ppl below you to pay you a portion of their profits, just like a pyramid. The training events shown in the documentary were very open that this is the only way to make money.

NurseButtercup · 18/05/2019 22:23

@BAB0484

Oh wow... I've been a Younique Presenter for almost 2 years now and I can assure you I make a really good income.

I don't believe you, I don't know anybody that made any money from selling Younique and they all packed it in after 6months...

We are no different to the make-up ladies in Boots, Harrods, Self ridges etc all who make commission by selling make-up to you... What's the difference?

What is the difference between Younique and Avon...or any other online seller...

Hahahaha you're joking right?
The quality of Younique products are sub-standard by comparison to Avon and similar priced products in boots, Selfridge's and Harrods. Based upon the Younique products I bought, it's all overpriced rubbish.

XXVaginaAndAUterus · 18/05/2019 22:26

I'd like to know what % of your income is from your own sales vs your downlines, please?

DialANumber · 18/05/2019 22:27

We are no different to the make-up ladies in Boots, Harrods, Self ridges etc all who make commission by selling make-up to you... What's the difference?

The differences are so many and varied and obvious this seems a ridiculous statement....
